The New KERF

June 27, 2010

OK, I lied. I’m back! Had a few minutes before we leave again.

I feel this HUGE sense of relief now that we’re out of the house. My whole life is in a box and it feels kinda organized!! And being at Karen’s condo is fun – I’ve never lived in a new, modern dwelling in my life and it’s awesome!!

Last night was totally exhausting!! After everyone left, Matt and I stayed at the house, cleaning, sorting and packing. We still had to load everything for the summertime into our cars!!

Somewhere in there I drank a Gatorade (definitely needed the glucose and electrolytes today!) and shoved a peach – the last of our fruit – into my mouth sometime in the 5:00 hour.

By 6:30 we were famished and on our way to Karen’s!!!

More unloading. More unpacking. A quick shower and we were out again and headed to Diana and Dan’s for a housewarming party! They bought a house last year and have been fixing it up bit by bit. This was my first time there – so cute + beautifully decorated!

Diana had tons of great food – she really outdid herself with the details!!

IMG_5804 (640x427)

I put anything in my mouth that looked delicious

IMG_5805 (640x427)

Wish I could have gotten more beautiful photography of the food spread, but we were a little late and I was too hungry to try to recreate the beauty!! They had a whole buffet of delicious cookout foods!

IMG_5807 (640x427)

I made a mini slider on a Great Harvest Dakota bun (custom made for Diana!!) with a spelt burger, tomato and fixins

IMG_5814 (640x427)

Plus a big salad with tortellini on top! A BBQ chicken skewer, and some chips and black bean spread.

IMG_5815 (640x427)

Plus a little Chardonnay

IMG_5816 (640x427)

I was still HANGRY for food so I tried a taste of each dessert, including a Filipino rice pudding Diana made! They were all delish!

IMG_5821 (640x427)

The night ended with a taste of Diana’s vegan Pina Colada pops!

IMG_5824 (640x427)

Go to The Chic Life for the recipe 😉

IMG_5825 (640x427)

As you saw, Matt and I crashed like rocks. He had been up since 2:30AM!!!! Poor guy was delirious.

This morning was our first in Karen’s condo – welcome to the new KERF!! Goodbye mosaic table. Hello swanky condo!

While I love French press coffee most of all, how nice was it for the drip coffee to turn on for me!!!!

IMG_5828 (640x427)

Oatmeal cooked for 3 on a gas stove!!

IMG_5827 (640x427)

My toppings were all still in boxes, so I used Karen’s TJ’s Sunflower Butter. LOVE the texture and consistency. The flavor is nice and smooth – like a mild peanut butter.

IMG_5830 (640x427)

Trading garden for gorgeous balcony!

IMG_5838 (640x427)

IMG_5837 (640x427)

Whipped banana oats made with soy milk topped with Lingonberry preserves, Sunflower butter and a few chopped nutz –

Look at that sunbutter MELT!!! (Yeah, my portion was a bit generous 😉 )

IMG_5833 (640x427)

IMG_5836 (640x427)

We’re watching Ken Burn’s documentary on the national parks. As Annie says, “I think I’m gonna like it here!!”

IMG_5841 (640x427)

Matt and I are going to the house now to clean more and finish things up. Goodbye house!

26 Melissa @ HerGreenLife June 27, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Reading about your move half gives me the itch to move, and half makes me NEVER want to move. Kind-of resembles my reaction to reading mommy blogs, especially the pregnancy and labor stories 😉

27 Dorry June 27, 2010 at 1:03 pm

What an awesome spread at the housewarming party! I wish all parties had that yummy selection of food choices. :) Glad you got to enjoy yourselves after all the hard work!

28 Robyn @ Frugal 'n' Fit! June 27, 2010 at 1:36 pm

I am impressed you had the stamina to socialize after a day of packing and moving! Of course, with a food spread like that, I can see your energy stores were replenished :)

29 Maria June 27, 2010 at 2:06 pm

I’m so happy for you, Kath! Gosh, is it weird that I’ll miss pictures of your house?! LOL.
You both have so much to look forward to. The weather is steaming; keep cool!

30 claire June 27, 2010 at 2:32 pm

How exciting for you two! I am just heading back to clean my boyfriends old apartment right now too!

31 [email protected]:// June 27, 2010 at 2:55 pm

Welcome to your future life. It’s nice how health minded Matt’s mom is, I’m sure it makes it much easier that way living together now.

32 lynn (The Actors Diet) June 27, 2010 at 3:02 pm

i was just looking up filipino food in los angeles today – i’ve been craving some! i wish i had some of that rice pudding…

33 Callie June 27, 2010 at 3:52 pm

Glad you finally got everything packed. Packing always seems to be the worst part of a move. :)

That melting sunbutter butter is making me drool…

34 Abby June 27, 2010 at 6:57 pm

Oh my gosh, I just started reading your blog and I love it for multiple reasons. For one I JUST moved to Charlottesville with my fiance literally 2 days ago and for the other I love delicious, creative, healthy food!! I just graduated with a degree in dietetics and start my internship at UVA in Sept; did you just finish yours? I can’t wait to see where the Great Harvest Bread is going to be, I grew up in Oregon and my mom and I used to go there for bread at least once a week! Love the blog and good luck with the move!!

35 Kath June 27, 2010 at 7:03 pm

Hey Abby!!!! We need to be friends!! Great Harvest is going on the outskirts of the downtown mall. We’ll be up to visit soon. And yes, I have 4 days left of my internship

36 Abby June 29, 2010 at 7:30 am

Oh wow, congratulations! We absolutely need to be friends! My fiance and I know like 1 person here and need some good restaurant suggestions… we like pretty much everything!:) Can’t wait for Great Harvest, how exciting!!

37 Hannah June 27, 2010 at 7:15 pm

How wonderful to have a catered party to go to at the end of such a long and exhausting day! And teehee, I love that you’ve got your family hooked on nut butters too so that you’re never far away from a jar, even when all your own are packed up. Clever girl 😛

38 Diana June 27, 2010 at 9:32 pm

Kath!!! So glad you guys were able to make it to our housewarming after your hectic day! Thank you so much for coming! Hopefully you can make it to some more parties at our pad before your big move! :)

39 Erin @ A Girl and Her Mutt June 28, 2010 at 9:24 am

What a great spread! Yay for staying in a modern condo. Who doesn’t love new digs?!

40 Elizabeth, blogger for SunButter June 29, 2010 at 8:37 am

Hi Kath,
I came across your blog while looking for SunButter recipes. We’re tempted by your whipped banana oats topped with lingonberry preserves and SunButter—a combination even we haven’t heard of. Where do you get your lingonberry preserves?
As you get settled in (Congratulations on your move!), you can find more SunButter recipes here:

Thanks for your comment Elizabeth! The Lingonberry is from IKEA :)
