We were slow getting up this morning, but we both agreed at breakfast we were so glad we went ahead to the gym early – so much done before 8am! We ended up biking there in the dark. It was 44* and I was HOT when we got there. 44 is warm compared to the teens we’d be riding in. I did 30 hard minutes on the Stepmill and we were on our way home. I skipped any lifting because my shoulder muscles are very sore – I think from locust pose from yesterday’s Yoga For Runners?? (Actually, I am getting a shoulder massage as I type from the husband!)
Since we were short on time, I made today a cereal day. But I used yogurt as my base.
The mix:
- ~1 cup TJ’s Euro plain
- ~1/2 cup each Quaker Oatmeal Squares + Kashi GoLean
- ~2 tbsp wheatberries
- ~1/2 cup blueberries
- 1/2 large banana
- Drizzle maple syrup
- Spoonful Barney Butter
My only complaint was that it wasn’t warm!
I had green tea to avoid the double French press rush.
I’m off to Biochem. We’ve got a quiz on the 20 amino acids, their abbreviations and structures. I was amazed at how fast I learned them last night with flashcards and some word tricks – like the Tyrosine structure looks kind of like a brontosaurus and sounds like Tyrannosaurus Rex!
See ya for lunch.

Gorgeous bowl this morning, Kath!!

I love the lone daffodil in that tall glass. Are you getting daffodils down there already??
Sounds like a great workout. That flower is really pretty in your picture! Good luck on your quiz =)
I can’t believe biking in the 40′s was “warm”. Best of luck on your quiz today…word tricks were the only way I could ever memorize.
Your cereal concoction looks so good!! I never feel full after I eat that sort of thing for breakfast. But yours looks very filling today.
Oh that looks fantastic! I love that you have a daffodil
Best-looking bowl of cold cereal ever! That spoonful of BB looks scrumptious. Good luck on your quiz today! Enjoy the warmer weather too
Ahh, biochem, I do not miss that class at all! Good luck with it! Love the breakfast!

i always think i want to try yogurt for breakfast but i love my warm oats/cool soybased breakfast!!!
I always hated that part of biochem! As if you couldn’t just look it up in the real world. I always used nonsensical acronyms to group them by property, like AGGSST or something.
Great looking bowl Kath!
Im glad you had a good workout, I hope your shoulders feel better.
yummy looking breakfast! Great way to start the week with an awesome workout!
I learned that doing those kind of study tricks helps you retain information easier and quicker
Good luck today – you’ll kill it, Kath!
Oh wow, tasty bowl!
Good luck!
you have so much SUNSHINE in your pictures these days. Lucky girl!
Good luck on quiz!
This is your mother. How was the quiz?
This is NOT your mother.
Cold cereal bowl for me too! Hope you rocked the quiz.
I just saw your pic of downtown Charlotte during the weekend… scary emptiness! Makes me glad to live in a big city with tons to do! =)
Btw I never thought of adding blueberries with oatmeal… looks super yum though, so I’ll do so when I blueberries become cheaper.
Kath- Mnemonic devices work SO well! I still remember my fave one from HS- “My Brother George Has Eaten Nine Cheese Pizzas”. The first letters all correspond to the countries in Middle America in descending order! Sounds silly, but 10+yrs later I can recall them at a moments notice (not that I’d ever NEED to, but it can be fun cocktail party banter!) Good Luck on your quiz!
Hi Kath! I’ve been reading your blog for a couple of weeks now and i’ve just decided to comment.. eheh.. I thought i was the only one obsessed with oatmeal! ohhh i understand you so much! Keep up the great posts.. they keep me motivated to eat great food and going to the gym!
Good luck on your quiz! I have to do the same thing to memorize stuff, I had so many silly ways to remember things that I would sometimes have to stop myself from laughing during a test.
Good luck on the quiz!
why does Y stand for Tyrosino rex?
Breakfast looks good today!

Jennifer ,
We have tons to do in all the other parts of our city. Just not uptown. You should come down sometime and stock up on all of our “dirt cheap” goods.
A fan in Quebec!,
Thanks for your comment!
Kath
I think I will. I have heard good things about Charlotte from others!
I absolutely LOVE yogurt breakfasts! Your cereal mix sounds luscious.
Enjoy your Monday!
