I don’t want it to end!!! We had the same problem on our honeymoon – we just kept going and going because we didn’t want it to end.
That’s sort of what happened with the consumption tonight
Beautiful cheese on the porch of our B&B
And some delicious California wines!
Couldn’t decide if I wanted red or white
We had a taste of everything and relaxed a bit on the rocking chairs –
And then set out for downtown. We had originally booked reservations at Biltmore Village, but we decided walking back downtown (and back) would be better given we were drinking …again. So we changed our reservations. Glad we did.
We ran into a kitty like Lillis Bilis!
Upon arriving downtown (we walked + ran 11 miles today!), we headed up to a rooftop bar we’d heard about. You take a hidden elevator and it opens up to a beautiful mountain view!
We totally didn’t need a drink, but we had an hour to kill and ordered a Manhattan – to keep the neverending fun going. It wasn’t the best drink we’d had (a bit watery)
We coincidentally ran into a friend from Davidson, Nat, and his girlfriend, Mimi!! Love it when that happens. Great conversation ensued for a good hour till dinnertime.
As we were paying our bill….look who dropped his credit card over the edge!
LUCKILY he was able to easily retrieve it. We were all quite shocked to see him down there so quickly and easily!
We said farewell to our friends and made our way to our restaurant – Market Place. It’s one we have always eyed but never gone to. The menu looked incredible!!
I was eyeing the ravioli in particular …
Good bread was delivered. Ate it all!
And like we needed more, we ordered wine with dinner. A Sonoma Zin.
For an appetizer, the oysters caught our eye. Fried with a bleu cheese sauce with an apple slaw. They were delicious, but I wish the portion had been bigger!
Check out the size of the potato chips that came with it!
The ravioli..
which unfortunately was not good at all. Very, very bland
But lucky for us, we had great service and the dish ended up being comped by our server when I mentioned how lackluster it was. That made all the difference.
Matt ordered the sunburst trout (a favorite of ours) and while the portion was small, the flavor was spot on. That lemony eggy stack on the side was incredible!!
We debated dessert but wanted to get back out walking around..and ended up at Kilwins!
With ice cream cones!! Perfect summer evening treat for walking around a vibrant city
Mine was Rum Raisin and Peanut Butter Chocolate!! So perfect.
These bears say they don’t want us to leave Asheville! Wish this trip was Neverending.
xoxo

I SO WANT TO GO to that B&B!!!! You two are just too cute!
This looks like such a fantastic trip!
Please mail me samples of all that food!
What a disappointment about the ravioli – but you are so right, great service makes suuuch a difference. That waffle cone also looks fabulous. Glad you guys are having such a fun time!!
I’ve only dreamt of days this lovely!! Hi little Asheville bears
I was downtown all weekend (I live in Asheville), and I kept wondering if I would see you and Matt! Glad you had fun!
I was looking out for blog readers all day too!
What a wonderful evening for you! Hopefully you can wrap this vacation up in your memory and dip into it the next time stress seems overwhelming. These are the moments that make life worth it
SALSA’S is a great place to eat..it’s not Mexican, more South American/Cuban. It’s down the street from the Mast General store a little ways, and around the corner. It has limited seating and a large following . The entrees are unique and they use fresh ingredients.
Here’s a link to the Salsa website:

You can never go wrong with Kilwins! Maybe Matt is hiding a superhero identity from you if he was able to get down there so fast!
Oh, how I love Asheville! I honeymooned there last September (from Los Angeles), stayed at the Beaufort House, they made us special vegan meals, it was perfect! What a nice weekend, and your ice cream looks DIVINE!
Looks like an incredible day. Matt’s so lucky he was able to get his credit card! It could have drifted off anywhere during the fall. Asheville seems like a perfect town since it’s so quaint but has upscale places also. I’ll have to put it on the vacation list!
I LOVE your dress. So cute!
Cute dress!
Happy Anniversary! : ) what a delightful day, it was lovely to behold, could just see happiness on your face at every moment! : )
The orangeade at Kilwin’s is my favorite.
Awww! What a fantastic day!
Glad you’re having a great trip!!
Ah! I can’t wait till I can run 11 miles.
By the the way: You two are adora-bi-bi-bi-ble
I don’t know what it is about cheese + crackers + grapes but it is so fantastic. I’m especially fond of brie cheese.
SUPER cute dress
That looks like a fabulous trip!!!
Kath-
Is the best way to get in contact with you through these comments?
I LOVE reading your blog! You and Matt always look like you are having such a good time.
You can email me at KathEats @ gmail.com but I am selective about how much I will type back just due to being so busy
What an enchanting evening!!
Looks like such a lovely time.

Haha at the credit card thing, how awful!! That’s must have been a worry when t first went!!
All the food looks and sounds delicious – what a fab evening!
wait, you told the waiter a dish was lackluster? unless there was something wrong with the dish (i’m talking stray hairs or sanitary concerns), that’s a pretty big faux pas.
I would only do so if the dish was reallllly disappointing – and it was. I think a restaurant would rather you be happy with your meal than leave disappointed.
PS. And of course I was very polite about it!
Cute dress!
Asheville is gorgeous!!! One of the reasons I loooooove living around here!
All the wine, cheese and ice cream looks amazing! Glad you’re enjoying your vacation!
Don’t you love weekends that are so good you never want them to end?
Ashville’s been on my list of places to visit…it looks similar to Burlington, VT, where I lived for a few years after college. Glad you’re having such a great anniversary weekend!
Looks like you are having a splendid time… I’m so glad. Enjoy every second!!

Your dress is beautiful! Looks gorgeous on you
Glad ya’ll are enjoying your trip!!
You are making me want to visit Asheville! It looks so cute.
Your B&B reminds me so much of the one my husband and I stayed at on our Honeymoon in Napa Valley. Yellow house, lots of wine and cheese, sitting on the front porch…. heavenly
What a decadent, indulgent trip! Sounds lovely – and like a dream
What a wonderful day!! Sounds absolutely perfect, from beginning to end!
Sounds like a perfect vacation! Glad you guys are having such a great time!
aaaah credit card overboard! glad matt was able to retrieve it. looks like you guys had a really amazing weekend.
OMG, this all looks like so much fun Kath! What a great way to kick off summer. Haha, that’s hilarious about the credit card… definitely a story to tell in the years to come.
Your trip looks like it’s been a blast! And I love your dress!
Congrats on the house offer!! Exciting
Did you enjoy the hidden bar and if so would you share the name of it? The view looks so great from up there. Love your dress too.
I think it’s called Sky Bar. It’s below World Coffee that’s in the Flat Iron building next to Wall Street.
LOVE your dress!
Gosh you seem to be having bad luck with ravioli at the moment!! Glad you’re having a lovely time.
Looks like a awonderful night!! Great service is always such a compliment to a meal.
I wish I read your posts about Asheville before our Smoky Mountain trip. We stayed in Gatlinburg, which has a notable LACK of any place decent to eat (especially for vegetarian foodies). If only we had ventured a bit further east on I-40, it looks like we would have enjoyed some much better options! Next time, I guess
