Haircuts + Limericks

October 6, 2009

We had a little snip, snip action from our friend Kris today!! She came over to cut Matt‘s hair and I couldn’t resist requesting an appointment as well. Don’t worry, we tip her well ;)

IMG_4502 (427x640)

Afterwards we went out for a photo shoot ’cause I know you guys would ask to see the results!

Stella got her layers back ;) Just a few…

IMG_4564 (427x640)

Matt got me in action

IMG_4546 (427x640) IMG_4547 (427x640) IMG_4548 (427x640)

His looked cute as well! Perfect. Cut.

IMG_4523 (640x427)

Old farts

IMG_4522 (640x427)

While we were outdoors we encountered some wildlife -

IMG_4573 (640x427)

He’s staring us down!! The biggest praying mantis ever.

IMG_4575 (640x427)

My day was made when the mail truck came and I got a card from my mom – along with a little spending money for some fall clothes! Too bad I have to share it with Matt ;) Thanks mom!

IMG_4581 (640x427) IMG_4580 (640x427)

Dinner was quick + easy + involved only one pan.

IMG_4588 (640x427)

A Trader Joe’s salmon patty baked and topped with Tribal Moose Cranberry BBQ Sauce and Fig Goat Cheese. Served over spinach + Flax Oat Bran.

IMG_4586 (640x427)

IMG_4592 (640x427)

Roasted brussels. 400* for about 20-25 minutes after being tossed in some olive oil, maple syrup, salt and pepper.

IMG_4591 (640x427)

I added some more maple to mine! They were sooo good. I can’t believe i ate the whole pile!

IMG_4585 (640x427)

IMG_4582 (640x427)

I was  missing a little sumptin’ after dinner and decided to make some Banana Ice Cream.

IMG_4602 (640x427)

So heavenly. Remind me of that the next time I complain about cleaning the food processor, which I just threw into the dishwasher tonight. (We only run ours every few days so I hate using up all of the space with this dish!)

IMG_4597 (640x427)

Topped with a little PB and cacao nibs. Deliciously filling.

A Limerick

So I asked Matt to draft some text for an invitation to send to our family members for Thanksgiving. I was super impressed with his creativity when he came up with this!!

A Limerick.

As long as Kath is living,
the responsibilities, she’ll be divvying.
The task falls to me
to write wittily
and invite you all to Thanksgiving.

Our menu is most ambitious:
Besides turkey (incredibly delicious),
It’s rich Fall flavors,
in food sweet and savor,
Cuisine that’s truly nutritious.

Corn pudding signifies Autumn,
And oysters, you’ll think we caught ‘em.
There’s fresh homebrewed beer
(it’s pumpkin this year!),
The desserts, I hope someone brought ‘em!

So please makes plans for vacation,
Our guest room’s taking reservations.
It wouldn’t be the same
unless the whole family came
to the ultimate seasonal celebration!

Wish we could invite you all!!!

***

I would love to stay and chat but it is dark and scary down here in the living room and I want to go upstairs where there are [hopefully] less chances for bug sightings!

Love the poem! I use poems for all of my invitations! Here is my poem for our annual Oktoberfest Beer Tasting invitation

It is time for the season’s best,
Good food, good friends, Oktoberfest.
So find your costume and your beer,
You could win first prize this year!

The party is for dressing up,
And tasting beer in a mini cup,
Please don’t bring a well-known kind
Start looking for a special find!

If your beer cannot be beat,
You’ll get a trophy, that is really sweet!
The party will begin at 8 o’clock,
October 31, be ready to rock!

Too bad you guys can’t come! Matt might be able to win with his homemade beer!!
:) Ali

Congrats on your Food Buzz noms! I just voted – did not know your hubby has a blog too! I found it while researching for the categories where I wasn’t as familiar with the bloggers. My husband is a home brewer as well – obsessed doesn’t even begin to describe his passion for beer. Very cool!

Your photo shots swinging your hair remind me of the opening shots of Marlo Thomas in That Girl. (i’m aging myself!)
Love the limerick, too! As I mentioned before, you two would be great on television!

I love roasted brussels and don’t eat them often enough. They’re heavenly prepared that way, or steamed with a little lemon butter and sea salt – YUM!

Reply

42 Allison (Balance in Bites) October 6, 2009 at 9:23 pm

Cute hair!

Here’s a limerick of my own: An Ode to Oatmeal (not as good as Matt’s!)

For a breakfast that’s better than bread
Try oatmeal and milk instead
It’s so yummy and quick
You’d think it’s a trick
I’ll keep eating my oats til I’m dead!

Ok – that took me WAY too long to come up with. Holy crap. And it’s not HALF as good as Matt’s!

Good thing I don’t make money writing poetry. =P

Your brussel sprouts look delicious. I definitely need to give the roasting a try.

By the way, I have also heard that if you have an energy efficient washer it is better for the environment than hand washing.

She doesn’t work as a stylist – so she’s not really making a house call. She’s a friend of Matt’s from Great Harvest. But she has a cosmetology license so she’s got the skills.

They aren’t salmon burgers – they’re salmon patties. Just salmon, salt and water in the ingredients. I like them a lot!! They are 80 calories each and cook in 15 minutes in the oven.
