Friends + Food + Fritters

March 28, 2010

Fun times with friends!

Terrace Cafe opened in Charlotte not too long ago, and I’ve been wanting to go ever since! The menu is up my alley, and little did I know what a great atmosphere it has as well!

IMG_9093 (640x427)

Love the open + airy modern feel – with cool sculptures!

Double decker!

IMG_9105 (640x427)

We waited for about 30 minutes for a table, which was great because it gave me more time to get hungry!

That is until they brought around some complimentary apple fritters!! This place quickly jumped to my new favorite restaurant ;)

IMG_9089 (640x427)

Mmmm!

IMG_9092 (640x427)

When we sat down I ordered a cappuccino. I find that I have better luck with espresso than coffee in restaurants (since I’m such a French press snob now and all :) )

IMG_9120 (640x427)

I could not decide, however, if I wanted an omelet or a waffle. I tend to not order waffles and pancakes in restaurants not because I’m anti-carb or anything, but because I feel by lunchtime that I’m ready for veggies and protein. But I also wanted to order something that I can’t make at home and the #1 thing on the menu was a waffle since we don’t own a waffle maker!

IMG_9103 (640x427)

Lucky for me, Matt was thinking the same thing and was torn between a sweet waffle and a savory omelet so we decided to share!

IMG_9108 (640x427)

IMG_9129 (640x427)

I ordered the Belgium waffle with Pecans and a side of fruit

IMG_9126 (640x427)

Matt ordered a make-your-own omelet with mushrooms, spinach and Gruyere

IMG_9133 (640x427)

And here’s my plate – half a waffle donated, 1/3 an omelet accepted along with some delicious strawberry jam! I also added a drizzle of syrup to my waffle (and ate 80% of it and gave the last few bites to Matt)

IMG_9135 (640x427)

The fruit was excellent!

IMG_9127 (640x427)

Cool silverware + water glasses!

IMG_9113 (640x427) IMG_9112 (640x427)

Check out these adorable mini skillets and deep fryers on the dessert tray! Must come back for dessert!

Off to roll!

Wow, what a fun brunch! That was a great idea to split between you. Makes it a lot easier to decide what to eat!!! The food there looks amazing! I will have to try that one out the next time I am in Charlotte! YUM!

That looks like a lovely meal out! The waffle looked good (though I hate omelettes..). and I love the decor in there – fresh and modern!
Have a good afternoon :)

Oh gosh, when you said “make-your-own omelette” I thought you meant actually cook it yourself, like you do with Japanese savoury pancakes at okonomiyaki restaurants! Glad the brunch was more relaxing than that :P

My FAVORITE places to eat out are cute brunch places. I love waffles, granola, and especially made-to-order omelets. When I was in college… one of the best brunch places downtown had homemade apple butter… which was marveloso over biscuits…

So even though I see no pics of homemade apple butter… your food looks soo tasty!! Glad you had the chance to enjoy it!!

All these years living in the south and even going to the NC state fair, I have never had an apple fritter! They sure like something bursting with flavah though. Cute brunch location and great choices as always.

Everything looks so clean and fresh; not at all like can be those greasy diner ‘brunches.’ Big thanks to you for providing to all your readers a great model for appropriate portion size. You are officially an extension of my (and my professors’) cause!

Oh my oh my. Everything looks + sounds perfect. The apple fritters look awesome too! Sometimes omelettes with mushrooms and spinach can be risky, because they tend to get soggy…but that is my favorite combo! Fun afternoon!

Your brunch looks delicious – I love when my husband and I agree on two menu items and are able to sample each!

Those desserts look amazing – I would definitely go back.

Just a few thoughts:
1) When I have brunch, I normally have my same breakfast (oats) minus some part of it (ie leave out the fruit). I find I still usually need the morning food…and then if lunch is larger, I have a smaller dinner. Seems to work…..

2) Regarding ice baths. They are torture at first until you learn to get used to them. It may sound strange, but try wearing socks. Your legs will still benefit, as will your feet, but your toes / ankles stay warm. I used to do them when I ran longer distances.
Just a thought for after your 1/2 mara!

Thanks for the clue about the search function; hadn’t used it before….handy.

Love Shaklee! My mom has been selling it since I was a little girl. She originally got in to it because she didn’t want the harmful chemicals around my sister and I and for the laundry detergent (no sensitive-skin-bothering scents). Now, I use the vitamins and other supplements. Our absolute favorite is the peppermint ginger pills. You use them to calm an upset stomach, and I just usually pop two pills, but you can drop them into hot water to make tea as well (personally….I think the tea is gross!). It’s funny to see something that was always so “normal” to me become part of the whole green fad!
