Matt and I have spent the day getting to know Maze – we took a bajillion photographs, worked on a video, re-counted the entire birth together (most of which I barely remember!) so I can recall the details when I write my birth story, practiced breastfeeding, and did some skin-to-furr bonding.
Here are some of our favorite photos!!
Smile for your blog friends!

Ahhh, soak it all in! Such a precious time.
Such amazing pictures, Kath. Can’t WAIT to read the birth story!!
Beautiful!
Those first and last photos are just precious! Can’t wait to read your birth story!
Congratulations and I can’t wait to hear your full birth story.
Seeeeee, didn’t we tell you to be patient and it’ll be worth the wait? My first was about 40 weeks, 6 days and my 2nd child was about 39 weeks, 6 days counting from when we conceived. Of course because we were trying for several years & had some miscarriages, I always marked everything down so it was just our good estimate.
God knows the exact date and time the baby wants to come out and I felt at peace in the last weeks and just try to stay close to home. Thankfully my water broke at home for both children where I was close to bathtowels and my bathroom. Enjoy the bonding. Please don’t feel obligated to blog until you got everything in the “Mommy” department finished because the readers can wait.
The time goes fast from now on. I love the sentence that you said “you could do it all over again even with the pain and temporary discomfort” when you meet and hold your precious child that lived inside of you for nine months. It truly is a miracle.
Isn’t it awesome to fall in love with your new baby?! He is just perfect! So happy everyone is doing well! (is it weird to say that I started a twitter account just so I could follow your labor? I’m not a weirdo or anything
enjoy all the new baby snuggles! So happy to hear that breastfeeding is off to a good start, too!
As we say in my family Toot! (too cute)
So very sweet…and look at that peach fuzz on those cheeks!!!
He’s adorable Kath, such a precious little guy
O – M – G! How could you not fall head over heels in love. He’s GORGEOUS! Beautiful photos! Especially like the ones of your husband enamored with his son. Gosh they are all wonderful photos. Best wishes to you and your family.
He is just undeniably, unquestionably beautiful. Matt looks happy and you are glowing and look as peaceful and content as the new man in your life.
Was the surge of hormones directly after birth as awesome as everyone says they are?
Oh, he is just beautiful! The pictures of Maze and Matt are so sweet!
So swEet. I lobe the top pic the best!
That picture of Matt and Mazen by the window is the best!! Congrats family!

I’m a long time reader, but I’ve never commented.
I just wanted to say that you have a beautiful family. Congrats!
You should definitely zoom in on the first picture of Matt & Mazen, & frame it — sooo cute!
I do not remember much about labor & delivery either, but I was medicated.
I have never seen a baby smile so much as Mazen does. He is such a cutie!

That first photograph is incredible.
Okay. All of them are. Life is beautiful in all its forms, but especially the brand-new ones.
He’s beautiful, Kath. Congratulations!
I love watching a daddy fall in love with their baby. I loved watching my husband snuggle our little ones and I love these photos of Matt. Of course I love the photos of you too.

What a beautiful family. I am crazy for your blog more than ever right now. I feel like Maze is part of my life. I’m just yearning to hear how much you LOVE him. I’m also wanting to hear how you feel now looking back on your healthy pregnancy ( you worked hard to always do what would be best for Mazen) and how you feel now minus the protuberance! I totally look forward to you wonder filled posts, Kath! Many more blessings and joys await you! Bravo!
This is great. I love this post. You have such a beautiful, complete family
Mazen & Matt together is about the most adorable thing ever (just something extra special about dads & sons together)! You’ve already taken some great pictures of him – I love the 2nd one of he & Matt together
my goodness…that looks like a happy baby! i can’t believe how he smiles so much already! looks like you & matt are naturals…just as i thought you all would be! continued luck with getting to know your little one!
That is one gorgeous and healthy baby there! Hope you’re on cloud 9!
Mazen is so sweet! And Kath, you look absolutely fantastic. If you weren’t sitting in a hospital bed with a newborn, I would never have guessed that you had just given birth less than 48 hours ago!!
When my son was born, I not only fell in love with him, I fell in love with my husband all over again… seeing him interact with the baby, and all of the UNBELIEVABLE support he gave to me. Based on these pics, I’m sure you’re on the same road
Enjoy every second!
So precious!!
He is absolutely precious.
He is a cutie! I can only imagine the squeeks. Have fun with your new little fam.
Congratulations, Kath and Matt! He’s gorgeous!! And I bet worth the extra few days of waiting.
That photo of him with Matt is priceless! Oh, it makes me want to cry! It brings me back 25 and 26 years old when our sons were born. Nothing can prepare you for how madly you fall in love with your baby (ies). There is nothing sweeter! Enjoy every moment. And thanks for sharing it with us.
He is so cute! What a cute family.
Hey Kath, I’m a long-time fan of your blog hailing from Downunder. I don’t usually post but Mazen is so gorgeous I couldn’t resist not saying anything. Congratulations to you and Matt on the little addition to your family. Posts with- and of- the bub are welcomed just as much as posts about your delish overnight oats :p
Hey Kath,
I’ve been following you since 2007… Amazing to see you become a mother now! I am so happy for you, Matt, and your entire family. I had a baby boy back in December 2010 and life has never been the same. Boys are so sweet and I know people tell you this all the time, but they grow so fast! Treasure every single newborn second (sounds like you are!) because he will be running circles around you before you know it. He is so beautiful and I wish you nothing but the best!! xoxo
Em
so incredibly happy for you both on this amazing new journey! congrats! many blessings
Having just kissed Mazen goodnight, I can attest to the fact that he is definitely a darling baby. No bias with this grandma!
Congrats grandma and to the whole family! Lil Pekanz is adorable
Birth stories fade so quickly – it’s amazing, isn’t it. That something so intense in the moment you’re living it begins to soften in your mind, even in just day(s).
Maze is adorable and these pics are beautiful!
Everyone has said it all ……..blessing to your new family !!!
He’s beautiful! Congratulations to you both!
Such a cutie!!! Congratulations!!!!
I love the picture of Matt leaning over the baby. Looks like he is whispering in his little ear. What a sweet little family you’ve become.
Congratulations to you all! What a precious boy and am so happy for you. Wishing you continued blessings!

You will never forget those very first moments.
Ah, sweet baby, wonderfully perfect and precious. My own “baby” boys are now 39, 41, and 44, and I remember their births and those first precious hours so well. What a joy!
What a little peanut he is!!!! So adorable! Congrats to you and Matt!
He is so precious! Congratulations, Kath and Matt!
Seriously cute baby!!
Congrats to you all – he is beautiful!!! And he looks JUST like your Dad in the second picture of this blog post!!!
Oh Kath, the first few weeks are so precious (well ALL the weeks are precious, but still)…..soak up every single itty bitty moment! The way the newborn baby still curls up in a ball on your shoulder….the tiny mouse squeaks….the adorable newborn grunts. Ooooooh how I remember those sweet moments. They grow so quickly but the good news is that you continue to discover and fall in love with new things every single day. Parenthood is the BEST! Enjoy!
Forgot to add….I love all the pics! Mazen is such a precious baby boy!
So cute~!!! Congratulations! What a sweet family~
too sweet!
That first pic is so heartwarming. No wonder people go through pregnancy & labor/birth over and over again, despite the less pleasant parts of it
He is too perfect Kath, you guys did a great job!
Oh Kath, he is absolutely PRECIOUS. So happy for you guys.
I am so in love with this post. I am a mother of 4 but I will never forget those sweet moments of breastfeeding and napping bliss that took over for a few years there. You are better prepared and more organized than I ever was, so I think you will find motherhood easy and blissful. Treasure every moment! And thanks for posting!

That opening photo is beautiful!
Maze is perfect! He’s sooo cute! Such a beautiful family.
I’m so happy for both of you.
I love your sweet babe’s face and the happy glow around you too…as my best friend and I discussed the possibility of my hubs and I trying for “maybe baby” time, I hear her BEST advice come to mind whilst looking at your photos…”think of all the feelings you have yet to FEEL”…you are feeling them, and thank you for letting us in on your newest addition!
He is beautiful! Enjoy
He is just too adorable!! And HA! Skin-to-fur bonding
That made me laugh.
He really is absolutely adorable, Kath! Congratulations to both of you!
I’m in love with all of you! Thanks for sharing such touching, heart-warming pictures from your first moments together. Your photos share the feelings at those moments beautifully.
Congratulations!!! Enjoy every precious moment!
Such adorable pictures! You can turn the blog into “Pictures of Maze” and I think we’d all be okay with that. How long do you plan to breastfeed?
First off…that view is AMAZING…I’d never want to leave! Second…I’ve been reading your blog for so long, that in the weirdest way, I feel like I already know you guys. Watching this whole experience from the beginning until now has been so fun (strange too since this is over the internet aaaaand I dont really know you haha) The pictures above are adorable and the very last one is a perfect shot! Congratulations again
He’s beautiful! Thanks for sharing so much of your story and family! Maze looks perfect!
Kath- these are all so good
The one where Matt is bending down to kiss the side of Maze’s cheek/face is AWESOME. You can totally see the baby responding to his Dad!! So lovely and just amazing! When you actually stop to think about the entire process of trying to get pregnant, to growing a baby inside of you and then birthing baby, getting to know him, and realizing baby already knows you guys (!!!)…its simply amazing, isnt it? Crazy. Just crazy.
Thanks for sharing these beautiful moments with all of us. If I didn’t have 4 kids already, these pics make me want more…and really still kinda do
Cheers!
That last photo of you and Maze pretty much sums up becoming a mother. The look on your face as you gaze at the new baby: overwhelmed by love, awe, and exhaustion!
Oh Kath, he is just so incredibly beautiful! You’re making me miss my guys being little! Looks like you have one happy little family there! Enjoy your day and hopefully you will have an easy transition going home today!

I just wanted to congraulate you two! Maze is beautiful and such a great name. My great nephew,Jace, was born on the 7th as well. I look forward to seeing your family grow.

“It’s so easy to fall in love”!
such a handsome little man! our son Cole was born 3 weeks before Mr. Maze and still has little blond hair on face, arms an back….i love it! enjoy this time, however challenging it can be! cole already looks so different than the day he was born. you guys will do great!
Aww….Kath I can almost smell the newborn baby scent! I mean I feel that much attached to your baby posts, they feel very personal and bring back sweet memories
Kudos to your talent of expressing your thoughts so well. Maze is precious and you three make a VERY sweet family!
Oh and love the title. That’s what happens to the new parents, they do fall in love with the baby….everyday, over and over again! I know, sounds cheesy! But very true, I warn ya:-)
oh he is so sweet
All of these pictures are so beautiful. I’m so happy for the three of you!
I love the name! I love how it breaks down ethnic/ cultural differences. Perhaps a sign that things between the middle east and the U.S. are getting better? I told my friend Mazen about you naming your son this name and he thought it was really cool and it actually made him feel really good because he faces a lot of stereotypes in our town ( small college beach town) ( he is Muslim from I believe Libya). Such a great honor to the middle east. Praise Allah!
Congratulations! He’s adorable.
beautiful photos, kath. thanks for sharing.
hope the transition home goes smoothly.
Congratulations! So adorable! We’re going to start the induction process for our first tonight and your photos are giving me teary eyes. Thanks so much for sharing your whole journey.
Good luck!
Oh my goodness…he is such an angel! Enjoy!
Don’t know if you follow Molly Wisenberg’s Orangette blog, but she was pregnant with nearly the same date as you (9/4 for her) and had her baby this morning: “Our daughter June was born at 6:29 this morning. Nine pounds. 20.5 inches. And a full head of wavy, almost-black hair! ” Is there something in the blogesphere?
My great-neice is pg with #3, due 9/30 (girl) – they’re everywhere.
Mazen is such a doll! I thought he looked like Karen in his birth photos, now, more like himself. Enjoy!
So exciting!
Precious is the only word! I am so happy for all three of you!!
Been following you and Matt’s adventure for these last 9 months. It’s strange how you can be so happy for people you’ve never met.
Congrats and best of luck! You are both going to be great parents! Maze is a lucky little dude!
I’m so happy for both of you. The baby is so beautiful. And so starts another journey.
he’s so perfect
Please frame that first pic… it says so much.
And btw~ you look great ! so heathy & happy ! ( not that you didn’t before, obviously, but sometimes the trauma of birth leaves us looking a little on the worn side… not so wil you ! you are still glowing!!!
Congrats to you and Matt on your little one! Maze is absolutely precious!
