Welcome to Great Harvest! Today we have Cheddar Garlic, Apple Crunch, Nine Grain, Honey Whole Wheat, Dakota, and Farmhouse White!
I iced up some coffee when I went in and then hit Staples for some office organization tools.
Is there anything more beautiful than a jarfull of Sharpies!? I <3 pens. The cheap Staples brand ones I bought a few weeks ago were awful. They didn’t work at all! I had to upgrade the store – easier now that we have green coming in!
When I returned, Apple Crunch was hot out of the oven!! Taste tester.
I just paused for lunch at 1:45. It’s definitely a challenge to find time to eat! I’m sure in time I’ll get more into a schedule, but I’m just so excited to keep doing stuff that it’s hard to sit down and take a break. Good energy though! I had several KERF readers come in today – so nice to meet you guys!! I especially love it when someone says “I’m a KERF reader!” because they know the lingo
Curried tuna salad!
Along with our Peach White Tea – delicious!
I’m deciding between a quarter of Savannah Bar and our Butterscotch Scotchie cookies for a snack later on!
Have a great weekend!

Mmmm I LOVE curried tuna sammys and wraps…and with a lil peach tea on the side? Heaven! The only question is….do you like your tea sweet or no? In Canada we don’t have the option but I always wonder what you yanks like bettah
I like it slightly sweet
Mmmm…what a delicious decision! Looks like you are having so much fun…enjoy day 2!
the bakery looks so amazing. i think it will be my saturday ritual to stop in after yoga
eric loved the muffin i got for his after tennis snack!
I think my choice would be the savannah bar
Congratulations to you both on your opening!!! Sounds like everything
is going so well! Beautiful job!!!!
Day 2 sounds like it’s going great! That bread looks SO fantastic. Glad a few readers stopped by too… so fun!
I wish I could try great harvest bread…It’s just a shame there are none near me. But at least I can imagine what it would taste like through your great pictures!
I love that you’re so passionate about your business. It really encourages loyalty.
The opening sounds like it is going really well. Congrats!
It is really great that you have some help during this time so you are not strung out on zero sleep.
That Savannah bar looks pretty enticing! Not that you could choose wrong between those two
Go with the Savannah bar! Those chocolate chip pumpkin muffins look UNREEEEAL! Major congrats on the opening! The store looks amazing. You guys have done a fantastic job!
I think the Savannah bar wins!
Everything looks so awesome, that sandwich is perfect! When I get back to VA I will certainly have to visit the bakery!
If I worked there, I’d have to “taste test” all of the bread and then there would be none left for the customers. I <3 bread!!
That’s so awesome that the store is doing so well! I bet a lot of your customers will start reading your blog after they hear about it!
The apple crunch bread sounds fab! Hope you’re energy level stays up!
What’s in the Savannah bar?
Fruit, oats, sugar, flour
I would like one of everything please!
That tuna looks fantastic, and I am so glad you’re enjoying your time at the bakery! I love that we get to experience it with you, even if it is from afar.
Working in a bakery would be the best thing ever – I <3 me some bread!
Savannah Bar and Butterscotch Scotchie cookies both look awesome but the Savannah bar looks richer, thicker, and more decadent. That’s my choice
How cool that KERF readers are coming in to see you…that’s awesome, and they know the lingo too!
Have a great day and glad it’s going wonderfully!
It’s true — there’s something intensely satisfying about office supplies. They always remind me of back-to-school shopping and getting all my Note Totes organized.
Your bakery looks like a lovely place to work!
I’m so glad that your store is doing well! I wish someone would open a Great Harvest in the western burbs of Chicago!
Oooh i love pens too!!
Congrats on a successful opening.
It is very inspiring to see you guys pursue your dreams and live a life that you enjoy and is fulfilling, despite all the challenges in opening up your own business! Congratulations on your accomplishment of opening the bakery!
oh my god, your life now…living in a bakery – i can’t even imagine!!!
Quick quesh — did you buy or make that tuna? And if you made it can I have the recipe?
unless it is already in your recipes section which I am checking right now!
They sell it at their bakery. So my guess is that the recipe’s off limits. We can hope, though!
Yes, the official bulk recipe is off limits, but it’s based on my Curried Tuna Salad recipe on the blog
omg, i love sharpies. they make me happy
i think i’m gonna go hunt down a great harvest location near me. all these pics are making me crave…..everything!!!!
yumm! I vote the scotchie! I’ve never met a cookie I didn’t like
Scotchies! I LOVE Butterscotch cookies!! My mom makes an oatmeal one that’s amazzzing. Which is probably what your butterscotch cookies are most likely.
Congratulations on the bakery! I started following you about 1 month ago and have been drooling over the breads you’ve been showing. I told my husband we had to find a Great Harvest around us somewhere because I HAD to try this cinnamon chip bread that looked like heaven. We went to the farmer’s market this morning, and lo-and-behold, there was a new stand from the local Great Harvest! Yay for Cinnamon Chip and Red, White and Blueberry bread.
Anyway, the bakery looks beautiful. Good luck to you both!!!
I really want to own my own bakery/restaurant now! It looks so fun! I would love to serve customers all day long and make FOOOD! You’re so lucky! But I do know how much hard work it took to get to where you are!
It looks like you are having so much fun at the bakery! And I’m so envious of all those delicious breads and sweets you get to enjoy all the time! After visiting my local GH yesterday for the first time, I am officially a HUGE fan of the bread. I’ve been eating my loaf of Dakota nonstop!
I wonder what a scotchie cookie is and what it tastes like?
Butterscotch!
I came in today with my friend and it was awesome!! We just tried our pumpkin chocolate chip muffins and they were AMAZING!! Can’t wait to share the loaf of bread with my family tomorrow–I’ll definitely be coming back! Also, I saw you on your porch the other day when I was walking…we live so close!
omg on all accounts!! say hi next time
So fun! I’m in love with your bakery.
Everything looks sooooo great (and yummy).
I’m so happy and excited for you! I wish I lived closer so I could come by and visit and tell you I’m a KERF reader. he he! I’ll just have to pretend throguh your blog since I’m pretty darn far away in San Diego.
Day two sounds wonderful! Good job KERF and MERF!! Can’t wait to make a road trip to your lovely bakery!! I have to try one of those sandwiches!!! Yum!
CONGRATS on you success so far, Kath! It all looks great and I am glad you are having a fun time with so much going on.
That sandwich looks delicious! I had a grilled Gruyere with a farmers market heirloom tomato on High 5 for lunch. So good!
I have to say that I was a little disappointed in the Savannah Bar that I picked up from the Lowcountry GH this week. It was lacking in flavor, despite the fruit in it. My husband even asked if it was from a box. I was most certain that it was made from scratch so maybe their baker had an “off” day? Still <3 the bread!!
oh noooo!
Apple Crunch?! That sounds incredible!!
I love the Honest Tea brand teas–just the right amount of sweetness.
I love reading about your great harvest adventure
. I LOVE Great Harvest, it is just a long drive for me to get to our closest store – about 45 min. away but I make it there! Your posts have made me go more often because just looking at the bread makes me want more!!
I’ve so enjoyed your posts over the last couple days. You and Matt and family must be so happy and proud. Hope to visit you guys one day!
mmmmmm savannah bars
That looks like a delicious sandwich! I love all of your beautiful baking, I want some! The Savannah Bars look really good, what are in them?
Fruit, oats, whole wheat flour
Oh my, I love pens too! I’m glad I’m not the only one.
I don’t live in Cville so I can’t visit you guys. But I just went to the Great Harvest in Herndon, VA and I LOVED it! I love how you can smell the bread baking, watch the bakers knead it, and see it sit in the racks. I’m sure you guys are that much and more! If I ever go visit Cville, I will be sure to stop by!
But you can come visit!
All your flavours of bread sound so delicious! I love all the variety at bakeries compared to grocery stores!
Whoa, my imagination is running wild trying to figure out what is in that Savannah bar – it looks A-mazing!!!
That curried tuna looks AMAZING!
That Apple Crunch looks DELICIOUS! Please send some to San Diego, k? thanks
oh and I’d totally dominate that pumpkin chocolate chip muffin!
Savannah Bar PLEASE!!
I tried Apple Crunch a few weeks ago and fell in love! It was like an apple orchard in my mouth.
Sighhh…if only I lived closer
I smell a GH roadtrip haha!
Congrats on your bakery’s opening! I’ve been a longtime reader of yours, and it’s been fun to see everything that went into owning your own business! My fiancee and I are travelling to Missoula, MT next month, and I’m looking forward to checking out their Great Harvest
If I’m ever down south, I’d love to stop in and say HI…best of success to you!
I need to try those pumpkin muffins! My favorite
I am officially going to Great Harvest for Cookie Friday this week! Those treats look delicious!
Wow! I’ve been away from my computer for a couple of days and as soon as I got home, I rushed to check out KERF to see what I’ve missed! The store is BEAUTIFUL!!!!! The GH stores we have here in Utah pale in comparison! Congratulations on creating your dream working environment! You guys are AWESOME!!!!
oh my lawwwd that pumpkin muffin and curried tuna sound delicious. I love curry AND tuna, so now I’m officially hungry. I’d soo go if I lived there Kath!
Hmm. It’s 10 o clock at night and I want an avocado… I had guac today too! Your sandwiches always look great Kath
Agreed 100% on the Sharpies!! and that sandwich looks phenommm. I’d be torn too both the bar and the scotchie look amazing!!
I love bread despite my bakery limited selection. If i had a GH nearby, I think
I would be a bread monster!
Oooh, I wonder what a savannah bar is? Intriguing!
Ever since discovering your blog, and reading about your Great Harvest adventure, I’ve been extra homesick. I live in Seoul, S. Korea with my fiancée and have ZERO access to bread like GH makes. We’re moving home in about 7 weeks, and lucky for me, there is a GH about a mile from my parents house. I can’t wait! Thanks for sharing your amazing bakery adventure!
Kath, I just LOVE LOVE LOVE your blog. I ran a half marathon yesterday and missed a WHOLE day’s worth of posts, I was trying to read a few last night and decided I’d save them all for this morning. Sometimes I like to get behind on your posts of the weekend and save them for Sunday morning to read with my coffee – weird I know, but true! I love hearing about the bakery, it makes me really want to do the same!
You have Scotchies?! Oh my goodness…lol. Do other Great Harvest locations probably have these as well?
Honest white peach is my favorite flavor! That sandwich looks yummy but I’m not sure if I like curry.
Owning a a bakery sounds wonderful! Being around all the great smells and getting to sample treats! I may be a little envious
quick question: how old do you have to be to work in a GH store? My daughter would love to. We have one right by our house, but unfortuanately it’s not yours!
It varies from store to store. We’re currently at 18 but some are 16
