Back To Bread

I’m so excited to get over to the bakery today!!

IMG_0728Blog

Janet told me to take advantage of her help and catch on a little sleep today. Sleeping in still meant getting up at sunrise, but I got to enjoy some cereal with mom and dad and El Tigre! My parents let Tig IN THE HOUSE and are pretending he is ours! He has an owner who lives across the street!!

IMG_0726Blog

I almost had oatmeal this morning, but we have lots of milk in da house so I decided on cereal instead.

Organic Valley sent me a sample of their new omega-3 milk. It’s got fish oil in it for an extra dose of those important omega-3s. Yay sardines and anchovies! I know that sounds gross, but there was not the slightest detection of fish in it (and I have a very sensitive palate!) I love that it’s real food.

In my bowl:

  • Puffed quinoa
  • Cville Cluster granola
  • Buckwheat groats
  • Sunflower butter
  • Chia seeds

See ya!!!

Kath, I just wanted to say how happy it makes me that you are enjoying the bakery so much. I know that might sound odd, but it’s refreshing to hear someone say they are excited to get to work, especially this early on a Saturday! I know how hard you and Matt have worked to get this off the ground, and I am genuinely excited and happy for both of you. Enjoy day 2!

I just started noticing that almost everything that says “Omega 3!” on their description has fish in it! Finding out it was in milk freaked me out. I guess you’re right in that it’s better that it’s coming from actual food. Enjoy your bakery day!

Yes, I thought the same thing, milk with fish oil?! Not that they aren’t both “real” foods, but mixed together, not so much!

Glad to hear the bakery is off to such a great start!

Kinda sucks for the poor unsuspecting vegetarian! (I’m vegan, so I stick to almond milk, but I remember back when I was veg hearing rumors that Garelick Farms added fish oil to their milk. I was so horrified.)

D and I keep watching as the bread biz takes off! We are so thrilled for you. You might think we are dorks, but we both got a little choked up when we saw your friends (the ones who Matt started with) arrive at 7am on opening day. How awesome!!

We are just praying it goes smoothly and you guys can keep your energy up and just take it one day at a time. I honestly cannot think of a more PERFECT couple to do this amazing job! Big hugs all the way from Indiana, girl!! 🙂

Also, how cool your mom and dad are there. and YAY for Karen finishing her treatments!

AND… almost forgot! I am back to blogging again if ya wanna pop over. 😉 Ab is doing well. This diabetes stuff is hard, but it’s been so good too. We are learning a ton. Makes me want to go back to school to become a dietician someday and help other kids with this disease!! Love ya!

    Hi Kath!
Now, don’t think I’m too strange, but I had a dream with you in it last night!
I dreamt that I had to pick up some bread for dinner. I had planned to go to this one bakery, but then I remembered, “There’s a new Great Harvest in town! We’re going there!” Sadly, we don’t really have a Great Harvest that close by, but the dream cracked me up nonetheless!
Congratulations on the bakery! Keep having fun!
    Best,
    Emily

I love these cereal combos, it’s such a great idea and way more fun and healthy than a box of sugary cereal! My office had a cereal potluck yesterday and there were about 30 boxes of the sugariest cereal. Luckily, I decided on a SIAB before I left home!

Kath, I love your blog, read it every day, but I gotta say, there is no way that milk with added fish oil is real food. Superficially, I guess it sounds like real food, fish oil! and milk! but the process by which the fish oil is added to the milk to ensure there is no taste or texture change can hardly be natural and cancels out the real-ness of both foods.

I remember you saying you were going to try to get omega-3s not through supplements but by eating the real sources of omega-3, which is great, but to me, fish oil added to milk is the same as eating a supplement, you’re just taking it through milk instead of a capsule.

Unfortunately, there isn’t a GH near my hometown, and although there is one in the same city as my school, it’s still a bit too far for me to visit sans car. I was so excited to see a Great Harvest table at the farmer’s market this morning–and I must say that their bread is every bit as good as you make it look and sound! Hope you enjoy your second day of work…I’ll certainly be enjoying my High 5 fiber bread!!
