The guys are working on another project this morning, so I had the new porch to myself!
Cannot wait to use all 16 x 13 feet for blogability!!!
Breakfast was overnight oats made with the Great Harvest Cinnamon Raisin mix, yogurt, milk, chia, and banana. Tasted like an oatmeal cookie!!!! I added some bran flakes and chia charger for toppings.
This stuff is really good – like a rich seedy peanut butter [coming to OpenSky?]
Tea on the side – Candy Apple black tea that was a freebie with my Adagio order. It was good, but not flavored enough.
We have one of two sliding doors!!!!!!
I couldn’t sleep last night because I forgot to turn the heat down and it kept turning on and blasting me sweaty. I finally got up at 5 to turn it down. We need to install a programmable thermostat!
Thus, I am exhausted from interrupted sleep and finally calling it quits at 6 and getting up to start the day.
Happy Friday y’all!

I cannot sleep if it’s too hot either!
PS Bear saw that your bears had their own room and is now ticked since he has to share a room with me.
Ha!!!
Could you get a screen and make a tiny portion of the room his? Oh here’s another idea: Set up a little tent just for him!
Haha! Good thinking! I need to steal a miniature tent model that they have on display at stores for Bear’s headquarters!
Perfect! You’re the kind of mom every bear adores! Good luck.
That chia spread looks so unique and tasty! I’d love to find some!
The chia spread sounds awesome! Porch looks great too – I think you’ve convinced me that it is a must-have on my future home! You guys are lucky to have so much gorgeous sunshine today!
You are going to love starting your mornings out on your porch with your bowl of yumminess and warming tea! Looks like a beautiful morning…the sun is coming out here, we have frost on the ground so it looks so pretty…can’t wait to get out and have my run…have a great day too!
I saw that Chia Charger from Tina on Carrots ‘N’ Cake too – sounds amazing!! I had the same problem this morning. The one morning I could “sleep in”, I was up at 5 a.m. Not because of our heater, but really for no reason. Maybe my body is still getting used to the time change, I have no idea. Oh well. Makes for some extra productive hours!
That spread looks interesting! I can’t sleep if I’m too warm either. I sleep with a fan on all year round. I need the air circulation and the noise to be able to sleep comfortably. Happy Friday!
I love the sliding doors! Can’t wait to see them finished. They look so fun! My honey and I thought about doing doors like that for one of our bathrooms, but the space just doesn’t work out for it.
Happy Friday to you as well
That chia charger sounds amazing
I am so jealous of your porch that it’s embarrassing! Enjoy it for me!
Your breakfast looks particularly good this morning…probably because I’m hungry! I could really go for a bowl of cereal right now.
Your porch is going to be amazing once it’s done. You have such a pretty backyard.
Porch is looking great! Can’t wait to see the finished project.
I’m definitely going to check out the chia spread. I just recently found out about chia and am hooked.
Enjoy your day!
We had a deal with our city (San Antonio) where they installed programmable thermostats for free as a way for the city to go more green and save money. Does Charlottesville have a similar program?
It looks like they do! http://www.charlottesville.org/Index.aspx?page=680
Yeah, I think there’s a rebate!
Is Chia Charger like Nuttzo? As much as I tried to like the latter, I just wasn’t a fan!
Yeah! Little bit.
I have the day off from work. Even though it was a day to sleep in my body just wouldn’t let me! Happy Friday!
Programmable thermostats are life savers. I love waking up to a warm house instead of having to get out of bed freezing and turn the heat on. They’re pricey though! (but worth it
)
Porch looks awesome! It was a little too chilly here in the TN valley for me to enjoy my Baked Banana Oatmeal (my fave recipe of yours!) on my porch =). I made your recipe this am since I’m running a half marathon in the morning and needed some good pre-race fuel VERY early tomorrow!
Ok last night was a full moon and although some people dismiss this type of thing…full moons are notorious!! for sleep disturbances.
In yoga, the world is full of prana, or life force energy and people have more energy and are more…awake.
New moons are a time of apana, downward pulling energy, and that’s why people tend to be more lethargic and lower key.
The moons are very powerful. It could of course just be your thermostat but the moon stuff is at play, too, I’d suspect!
I totally believe in this kind of thing!
Ok good! Things also tend to break during full moons, i.e. appliances, tech issues, car trouble, mechanical stuff, and interpersonal relationships tend to be heated or intense or passionate. Lots of energy is out there swirling. Some ways good, some ways…not as good. I’ll stop now with the moon talk
I totally believe in the weirdness that happens on full moon nights! I work in a hospital laboratory and we’re often crazy busy in our blood bank on those nights. My mom is a nursing home administrator/registered nurse and says that the patients in the nursing homes often act very strangely then, too. All weird!
You so need to get the programmable thermostat! I love having it, especially at night when I CAN’T STAND to be hot
I concur with the full moon theory. My mom is an ICU nurse and she has said for years that the crazies come out with the full moon.
I’ve never had chia seeds before but I hear they are great for runners. I think I’m going to give them a try. Chia seeds in peanut form is right up my alley!
I have a sneaky suspicion your building the deck JUST for blogging!
You’re always debuting new foods – that chia spread looks interesting. Your porch is coming together so fast!
ohh that porch is going to be an ideal backdrop and set up for picture taking! You should get one little section of some nice distressed wood for a great background.
love the additional crunch from the bran flakes.. and the natural background is just gorgeous! a beautiful outdoors really adds so much to photographs.
i was having crazy hot flashes last night as well! our heat has been a little crazy lately… may be time to get someone out here to look at it. ugh.
please bring the chia charger nut butter to opensky!!
Oh my gosh, I can already tell that I’m going to be so jealous of your porch! Wow! Have a great day Kath!
Candy Apple tea sounds good. Sorry to hear it didn’t meet yummy expectations. Love the sliding screen door.
And the Chia Charger… YUM. Need to find me some!
We have the opposite problem– our heat broke yesterday, so I woke up last night FREEZING!!! Although I guess I would rather be cold than hot– I was snuggled under tons of blankets
I love those sliding doors that you all are using! And I hate waking up sweating because it’s too hot! I don’t control the heat though, my apartment has radiators controlled by a boiler In the basement
Can’t wait to see it done! I love other people’s home improvement projects!
You should get an EcoBee thermostat. It’s expensive but has saved us money already. You can set the temp from your laptop or for sure from an iPhone, not sure about other apps available for different phones. I love it! When I wake up early, I can turn the heat on from bed and go downstairs to it blasting!
Cool – I’ll check that out
I am going to have to check out that chia charger. I love chia seeds in my yogurt and smoothies.
We turn the heat off at night-saves money and we sleep better!
Your porch is going to be amazing. All that natural light for food photos is a good thing!
Hot sleeping is the worst…highly recommend the programmable ‘stat!
YES! Bring that stuff to OpenSky! I’ve been dying for it ever since I saw it on Tina’s blog!!!
Also I was CRAVING overnight oats this morning! I never seem to have the foresight to make them! I need to get better at this.
Have a wonderful Friday Kath!
Hi! Those sliding doors on your porch look awesome! Especially with the fall leaves behind them
Is the Chia Charger better than eating plain chia seeds, being that you are essentially getting more bang from your buck with the combination of the chia seeds and the protein in the peanut butter? I will definitely have to give that a try.
http://faithfulsolutions.blogspot.com/
It’s probably about the same either way – eat them separately or together
Your porch is coming almong! Congrats!
So jealous of your porch, and I love the sliding doors. We own a condo right now (that we’re upside down on), but it makes me look forward to our future when hopefully we can have our own single family home!
I installed a programmable thermastat in my house all by myself and I’m not mechanically inclined in the least! Pretty easy and didn’t take too much time. I would recommend that you get the bit more expensive one the cycles on every so often if the air/heat doesn’t come on automatically due to a temp change. I notice in the summer (at night especially) if the air cond. is set to a certain temp and doesn’t need to kick on at all during the night (I keep my sorta high), that it gets a little stale in the house. I’m sure you can totally do it too Kath!
Good to know!! Matt did it at our old house, so I’m hoping it’s not too hard
Ashley passed along your hand squeeze! I hand squeeze you back!
Awwww yay!
Your porch is certainly coming along! Can’t wait to see the finished product:)
Chia seeds in peanut butter? Sounds delicious!
Ugh, I hate being hot while trying to sleep! It’s the worst. Hope you have a better nights sleep tonight
What color will you be staining your porch with, or are you keeping it natural + sealing it?
We’re going to paint the upper parts white, but the bottom parts need to cure for 6 months to a year before we can stain them, so we’ll have time to think about it
OBSESSED with your mug and bowl this morning!
Programmable thermostats are da bomb! I love mine. Had it put in last year and so far it looks like it really is saving me some money.
LOVE the doors. The chia charger looks good too. Happy Friday back to you.
Wow, your new porch is coming along very nicely. Happy Friday!
Chia Charger is what I call my chia filled smoothies!
Yes, please for the chia charger on OpenSky!
Also, I just wanted to tell you, Kath, how wonderful your blog is. One of my best friend’s from home introduced me to it this summer and I fell in love. We promptly started to have what we called “KERF Cooking” dates! And even now at school, I continue to make delicious oatmeal and creative breakfasts, because of your inspiration!
Thanks!
Thanks so much Marjie
I hate sleeping in a hot room too! I say just invest in a fan–wayyyy cheaper. Hah.
Love the sliding doors! wheee!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Sleep issues are the worst. I’ve been experiencing that lately. The chia charger sounds tasty. Love the sliding doors on the porch.
Can’t wait to see that nut butter on Open Sky. It looks good.
TGIF! YAY!
Thanks to you, my sister got me a milk frother for my birthday!!! So thank you!!
And I need to find that chia charger butter… I’ve seen it a few places lately and want it
Awesome!
ahhh how cool is that?! Sliding doors~sounds really hard to make. I hope you have a beautiful day Kath~:)
That cinnamon raisin mix sounds good! I haven’t bought flavoured oatmeal in ages! I think the last time I had it I was in high school. Back then I loooved Quaker peaches ‘n cream oatmeal. Thinking about it makes me want to buy it again!
You should try the Chia Charger by Tyler McCandless! He’s a phenom marathoner from Penn State Meteorology!! (There’s a cohort here at PSU Meteorology who cheer him in his races AND who follow your blog from State College!)
Please add Chia Charger to Open Sky! I’m dying to try the Xpresso!
With all that wood being cut and assembled, it must smell wonderful there!
