Feeling smooth today. Matt and I were supposed to go running first thing because we have a lot of errands to run today, but Bikram did a number on my spine! I’m pretty stiff/sore, so I’m taking a rest day to run the errands instead of the roads.

IMG_1490 (640x427) (2)

IMG_1464 (640x427) (2)

Half banana, half peach (Matt stole the other halves!), handful ice, 1 cup soy milk, scant 1/4 cup Vega Vanilla Chai ( <– mi favorita!)

IMG_1465 (640x427) (2)

The best bowl for the job: Cali Bowl! No sloshing allowed.

IMG_1471 (640x427) (2)

IMG_1473 (640x427) (2)

I left the oats out of my smoothie to make room for bigger and better grains

IMG_1476 (640x427) (2)

IMG_1475 (640x427) (2)

Plus some Galaxy granola and Justins liquidy + spreadable hazelnut buttah!

IMG_1478 (640x427) (2)

IMG_1486 (640x427) (2)

My cravings for SIABs have not weakened!

IMG_1484 (640x427) (2)

No coffee = tea

I got this sampler from Golden Moon ages ago. What I love about it is that there are SO many flavors to try – today’s was Snow Sprout!!

IMG_1466 (640x427)

Lite + sweet

One of our errands today is to a not-very-pleasant destination. Any guesses!?

Hint: It’s not medical related

DMV? Have a great weekend!

2 KatyRuns August 27, 2010 at 8:25 am

My guess it the DMV too!

3 KatyRuns August 27, 2010 at 8:26 am

Boy do I need to start proofreading. Should be “is” not it :)

4 Kristin August 27, 2010 at 4:14 pm

I read that so fast at first I thought it said “is”

5 Rachel (Two Healthy Plates) August 27, 2010 at 8:26 am

I have a day of errand running too, sometimes it fun but sometimes it seems like a real chore!

I bet the wheatberries were a good addition to your smoothie!

6 Jessica @ How Sweet August 27, 2010 at 8:26 am

That swirl is so pretty in the smoothie. I don’t really enjoy SIAB’s but that makes me want to eat it up.

7 christina August 27, 2010 at 8:28 am

the dump!

8 Kate August 27, 2010 at 8:28 am

Totally the DMV! Ugh. At least you can go together and keep each other company.

9 Laura @ Blogging Over Thyme August 27, 2010 at 8:29 am

Yep, I guess the DMV or the dump! I think the DMV is worse than the dump though 😉

10 Sarah August 27, 2010 at 8:29 am

I think you should reward yourself for whatever errand you’re on with a new coffee maker. :)

11 Tina August 27, 2010 at 8:29 am

Enjoy your rest day! I’m taking one too. :)

And I need a pretty backyard to take pictures in.

12 Christine August 27, 2010 at 8:30 am

Time for new licenses, I guess! Smile pretty! :-)

I have to head to the DMV (in NJ it’s actually MVC) soon – my “baby” licenses expires in a month!

13 Jess @ Jessica is Getting Fit August 27, 2010 at 8:30 am

I’m also guessing the DMV – I hate waiting in line. It makes me happy that in Indiana we now have online appointments that you can schedule in advance for the DMV. No waiting! 😀

14 Sarah K. @ The Pajama Chef August 27, 2010 at 8:37 am

i live in IN too and just learned about that. i wish i had known before because i had a horrid experience back in Jan when I had to go. i’ll have to do it next time though. also i’ve found in IN it helps to go to a smaller branch.

15 [email protected]:// August 27, 2010 at 8:33 am

I love the hazelnut butter topping. Probably best that you listen to your body and take a rest day.

16 Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg August 27, 2010 at 8:33 am

Oooh, that tea product is so cool!!!

Ugh– DMV maybe?

17 Meg August 27, 2010 at 8:33 am

Hope you feel less stiff/sore later :) Breakfast looks beautiful – love the swirls, yay!

Don’t go Hulk on us again and start breaking stuff with your hands today, Kath 😉

18 Shion August 27, 2010 at 8:34 am

oh my gosh, that SIAB is beautiful! yum!

19 Melissa @ HerGreenLife August 27, 2010 at 8:35 am

Wow, I guess the DMV is a universal “unpleasant task.” That was also my guess, or something else motor vehicle related. I find most tasks in that category unpleasant!

20 Krista (kristastes) August 27, 2010 at 8:37 am

Hahah was totally thinking DMV like the rest of the peeps!

21 RhodeyGirl Tests August 27, 2010 at 8:37 am

I have never had hazelnut butter, but I imagine I would LOVE it!!!!!

No idea where you might be going.. with this gorgeous weather I would think any destination would be fun! :)

22 Liz @ lizrunsdc August 27, 2010 at 8:39 am

I guess the DMV :)

23 Michelle @ Turning Over a New Leaf August 27, 2010 at 8:41 am

I want me one of those loose tea steeper things. But maybe I should get some loose tea first! 😉

24 Amanda-The Nutritionist Reviews August 27, 2010 at 8:44 am

What a cute tea maker! And I love galaxy granola.

25 Angela (ohsheglows) August 27, 2010 at 8:44 am

don’t tell me you are going to the dead snake museum! Hate those.

26 Kath August 27, 2010 at 8:49 am

27 Allison August 27, 2010 at 8:46 am

I’m guessing Wal-Mart. I hate it, but sometimes its unavoidable!

28 Jessie (Bites and Pieces) August 27, 2010 at 8:46 am

That smoothie in a bowl look so beautiful! I love the swirl of nut butter on top. My guess is that you are going to the DMV, it is one of the most unpleasant places I can think of! :)

29 Heather August 27, 2010 at 8:47 am

is it wal mart? I hate wal mart!!!

30 rebecca lustig August 27, 2010 at 8:50 am

wow, seems like the DMV is a big hit… I’m going to go out on a limb and guess the hardware store! someone’s gotta switch it up, heh.

loving that tea gadget thingy. what is it called? lol

happy friday! :)

31 Kath August 27, 2010 at 8:52 am
32 Evan Thomas August 27, 2010 at 8:57 am

I’m guessing the DMV. I was there Monday and would rather have been anywhere else.
I love the swirl, it makes for such great composition 😀

33 Simply Life August 27, 2010 at 8:58 am

Looks like a beautiful start to the day!

34 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) August 27, 2010 at 9:00 am

I am thinking you need a new driver’s license! Have fun with that. The smoothie looks tasty! Enjoy your day Kath!

35 Michelle August 27, 2010 at 9:02 am

I was going to say the DMV too. Dang, there must be something universal about that! Oh wait, maybe a lawyer. (If it is I hope it’s for something GOOD) :)

36 Christine August 27, 2010 at 9:03 am

I hope it is not the DMV cause I saw on the news VA DMVs are having computer issues… I vote for the dump!

37 Angharad August 27, 2010 at 9:05 am

Ummm….the dump? That would be pretty unpleasant (and smelly!).

Lovely picture of your tea and breakfast!

38 Carrie H August 27, 2010 at 9:08 am

Just reading your morning and dinner post … I LOVE sour beers. Here’s a great NYT article about them, in case you haven’t seen it. I thought Matt might like to see it too, if he hasn’t already. :) I live just 50 minutes from the New Belgium Ft. Collins, Colo., brewery mentioned in the story and have visited it a bunch of times!

39 Christie {Honoring Health} August 27, 2010 at 9:10 am

The DMV!

40 Lauren at KeepItSweet August 27, 2010 at 9:11 am

I also would bet on the DMV!

41 Sarah @ Sarah's Shaping Up August 27, 2010 at 9:11 am

The SIAB looks delish!

42 Veggielady4life August 27, 2010 at 9:14 am

That SIAB looks absolutely delicious. My husband is heading up to Charlottesville for an entire month next week… for a medical school rotation. He’s excited but a little nervous. Neither of us have ever been there before, but I’ve been reading your blog for almost a year… and I’ve just heard so many good things about it from you! Any recs on a fav restaurant?

43 Kath August 27, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Check out my Charlottesville category – lots of restaurant there!

44 Holly @ couchpotatoathlete August 27, 2010 at 9:15 am

Your SIAB looks delicious — I love that Justin’s flavor. So good!

Enjoy your day, I have no guesses as to where you are going, unless you are going to some kind of oatmeal graveyard — that sounds like something you’d not want to see!

45 Allison K August 27, 2010 at 9:24 am

Until you said it wasn’t medical–I would have voted for the Dentist. I hate the dentist with the passion of a thousand fiery suns.

46 Marisa @ Loser for Life August 27, 2010 at 9:28 am

Hmmm… I’m thinking maybe an onion farm 😉

I love your tea steeper!

47 Maria @ Oh Healthy Day August 27, 2010 at 9:32 am

My guess is the DMV. You should get some of those pretty mountain Virgina license plates.

Am I right? :)

48 lynn (The Actors Diet) August 27, 2010 at 9:37 am

your nut butter drizzling skillz are impressive!

49 Michelle @ Give Me the Almond Butter August 27, 2010 at 9:39 am

I love how many people are guessing the DMV. In Washington we have to go to the DOL.

50 Sarah R August 27, 2010 at 9:44 am

My first thought was the DMV, which it looks like that what everyone else thinks too!

51 Shannon, Tropical Eats August 27, 2010 at 9:46 am

i was gonna say hot yoga… lol.

but I guess DMV works too!

52 Amelia August 27, 2010 at 9:46 am

haha along with everyone else I’m gonna guess DMV. apparently it is the first not-very-pleasant place that springs to mind for most of us! :)

53 Stacey (The Habit of Healthy) August 27, 2010 at 9:47 am

Tasty breakfast! Have fun with your errands and enjoy having a rest day.

54 Wei-Wei August 27, 2010 at 9:47 am

How would you make SIABs with out any of this smoothie powder? I’ve never tried SIAB… do you have a basic recipe?

55 Kath August 27, 2010 at 2:39 pm

Just leave it out! SIAB is literally smoothie in a bowl. Just make a regular smoothie.

56 Liz @ Tip Top Shape August 27, 2010 at 9:48 am

Hm, my first guess was going to be the dentist but I guess not now! I would have to go with the general consensus and say DMV. That place is pretty unpleasant.

57 Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) August 27, 2010 at 9:51 am

visiting the dump??

58 Matt August 27, 2010 at 9:54 am

59 Sabina August 27, 2010 at 9:55 am

I’m going to stray away from the common consensus and say … tax acccountant. (Though, DMV was my first guess) !

60 marie August 27, 2010 at 9:57 am

61 Chelsea (Chelsea's Chew and Run Fun) August 27, 2010 at 9:58 am

I’m going to go ahead and guess that one of the errands involves the DMV. If my assumption is correct, then my heart goes out to you.

Yous SIAB looks gorgeous! I must find this Justin’s hazlenut butter I adore his almond butters.

62 Kristin August 27, 2010 at 9:59 am

Ooooooo! I love that loose leaf tea strainer! Where did you get it? Did it come made for that specific mug?

63 Kath August 27, 2010 at 2:39 pm
64 Camille August 27, 2010 at 9:59 am

Hmm, DMV?

65 Lana August 27, 2010 at 10:00 am

I cheated and read a few of the comments and now all I can think of this the DMV, lol. Whatever it is I hope it goes smoothly

66 Sarah (Running to Slow Things Down) August 27, 2010 at 10:00 am

Your SIAB are absolutely beautiful. Look at that swirl of chocolatey goodness. Yum! 😀

Hope that wherever you are going isn’t too tourterous! 😉

67 Heather (Heather's Dish) August 27, 2010 at 10:06 am

prettiest SIAB ever :)

68 Alyssa August 27, 2010 at 10:07 am

Are you going to the ghetto? That would be not pleasant :-)

Got a CaliBowl the other day and it really does prevent spillage! Genius!

69 Mary @ Bites and Bliss August 27, 2010 at 10:12 am

Yoga did a number on my spine last night, too! Hope yours feels better- spine pain’s the worst. :/

70 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat August 27, 2010 at 10:23 am

My guess is the DMV as well. I love the idea of those Cali Bowls – I’ve seen them in stores a couple of times but haven’t purchased any yet. I’m a huge klutz and spill all the time so I could probably use a few!

Happy errand-running!

71 Nancy @ The Wife of a Dairyman August 27, 2010 at 10:29 am

Well your breakfast looks fabulous…..hope the rest of your day goes well:)

72 Larry August 27, 2010 at 10:30 am

I was saddened to learn of your clever coffee machine leaving you in the lurch. It must have been a crushing blow. However, I was gladdened to read all your food/budget tips. Seems like an entirely rational approach to better living. One thing I have done is to limit restaurant visits. Only twice since last November and the twice were to hard core Mexican places (hard core means they have menudo 7 days a week) for the benefit of my spouse. We are trying to emulate many of your eating practices. It is not easy since we live in the armpit of the Southwest (UTEP/NMSU area) and will never have a Trader Joe’s or a Whole Foods. But, we keep trying . Thanks for all your hard work! Hope the booboos heal quickly.

73 Marcia August 27, 2010 at 10:31 am

mmm…the tea and smoothie look divine!

74 Megan (Braise The Roof) August 27, 2010 at 10:32 am

Comcast again?? I hope not- you’ve dealt with them enough! :)

75 Lauren @ 40Apples August 27, 2010 at 10:39 am

Lovely sky pic! SIAB looks pretty rad too. Whatever the downer errand is – DMV sounds about right – good luck!!

76 Kori August 27, 2010 at 10:40 am

DELICIOUS!! I LOVE all types of smoothies, and this 1 in particular looks so incredible. :) Have a great day, Kath despite having to go somewhere unpleasant.

77 Gabriela @ Une Vie Saine August 27, 2010 at 10:50 am

Hmmm…my least favorite errand in general is to Home Depot, but a lot of other people are saying the DMV and that sounds pretty miserable too!! Hope it’s not too bad. I love that I’m reading about your smoothie while drinking one of my own!!

78 kyla August 27, 2010 at 10:57 am

My guess was the DMV too.

Or maybe the bank?

79 Jasmine @ Eat Move Write August 27, 2010 at 11:28 am

Well, I agree with the commenters that DMV sucks. Atleast you don’t live in California. I’m fairly certain our DMV also serves as the gate to Hell. Just saying.

80 Caitlin August 27, 2010 at 1:02 pm

I agree with this times a bajillion! I don’t even mind the DMV, but I have always envied those whose states are well-organized or small.

81 Samantha @ A Blonde Behind The Bar August 27, 2010 at 11:31 am

That tea brewer thing-a-ma-bob is so awesome! I’m deffinitly going to invest in one of those!

My guess is DMV also, that place is aweful!

82 Kathy W. August 27, 2010 at 11:42 am

The D.M.V.! Still not as bad as the D.D.S. (Why do bad things involve the letter D? They should have done a Sesame Street song about that.)

83 Vicky (eat live spin) August 27, 2010 at 11:43 am

All your pictures made me hungry for breakfast… even though I just ate!

84 Chelsea August 27, 2010 at 11:47 am

Smoothie looks gread today, the drizzle is beautiful! I have never tried the Vanilla Chai flavour..I bought the chocolate version of the whole food health optimizer, but I’m not crazy about it. I find it kind of chalky, do you find that with the vanilla chai?

85 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin August 27, 2010 at 11:58 am

It’s crazy how sore I get from yoga. Who would have thought?!

86 [email protected] August 27, 2010 at 12:13 pm

That SIAB looks so decadent! I’m in smoothie mode now so I’ll have to go back to all of your creations to get some inspiration!

Have a great rest day!!!

87 Sami August 27, 2010 at 12:24 pm

i wonder how vega and amazing grass vanilla chais compare?! have you had both?? what’s your opinion? i loveeeeeeeeee amazing meal vanilla chai!

88 Kath August 27, 2010 at 2:41 pm

I have’t had the AG Vanilla Chai (by the way, I think it’s BS that they copied the flavor!!) but I much prefer Vega in general

89 Amanda August 27, 2010 at 12:25 pm

Your breakfast looks oh so very delicious girl! :)

90 Kate August 27, 2010 at 12:28 pm

Good to see you listening to your body and resting from exercise, doesn’t seem like you do that much with working out.

91 Kath August 27, 2010 at 2:41 pm

I think I rest a lot!?

92 [email protected] August 27, 2010 at 12:48 pm

Have a nice rest day!

93 Colleen August 27, 2010 at 12:52 pm

I will go with the Bank. Those trips are never fun.

94 Susan Mc August 27, 2010 at 12:59 pm

I’m going to guess DMV too.. and love the bird’s eye view shots… your SIAB is a work of art!

95 Caitlin August 27, 2010 at 1:00 pm

You pour your smoothie so neatly into the bowl! That is incredibly impressive.

Good luck with whatever the unpleasant errand is! I have never minded the DMV, but hate the doctor’s office. Ick.

96 Stacey August 27, 2010 at 1:18 pm

I’m gonna guess and say the hardware store? I hate going to the hardware store!
And I was soooo going to make a smoothie this morning, but we are out of almond milk :( At least I can live vicariously through yours! 😀

97 Paige @Running Around Normal August 27, 2010 at 1:28 pm

DMV and Post Office came to my mind.

That smoothie looks so good!

98 R @ Learning As I Chop August 27, 2010 at 1:38 pm

That looks delicious!

99 Chelsea @ Strawberry Sweat August 27, 2010 at 1:43 pm

I love the tea infuser! Where can I find one like it??

100 Kath August 27, 2010 at 2:40 pm
101 Ally August 27, 2010 at 1:51 pm

As I read this I am eating a smoothie bowl…

My husband and I went to Oahu a couple years ago and had our first official smoothie bowl from Lanikai Juice. SOOO amazing. You can look at the menu online ( I have gotten many ideas from them.

We loved it so much when we came back to California we started writing a business plan to open our own smoothie bowl shop. But we got so caught up with life and our real jobs it didn’t end up happening.

102 Kelly August 27, 2010 at 1:51 pm

An onion farm? 😉

103 JBW August 27, 2010 at 2:12 pm

Hi Kath. I was wondering where you got that cute spoon? I really like it!

104 Kath August 27, 2010 at 2:41 pm

It was an OpenSky item, but it’s no longer available:(

105 lena August 27, 2010 at 2:33 pm

Jumpin on the DMV wagon!

106 neen@ Broad Bean to Runner Bean August 27, 2010 at 3:48 pm

gorgeous photos today missi!

107 Crystal August 27, 2010 at 5:51 pm

The Vanilla Chai product looks so yummy, did you buy it online or where you able to find it in a store?

108 Chelsey August 27, 2010 at 6:07 pm

i have no idea where you could be going – i guess since i’m so late in the game, i need to keep scrolling up in my reader!!!

109 Jenna August 27, 2010 at 8:44 pm

The most beautiful breakfastttt!

110 Hannah August 27, 2010 at 9:39 pm

I love the way that Justin hazelnut butter spread out and stays afloat. Must be so delicious… wish I could find that here!
