It’s one of those wonderful early summer mornings when there’s a constant chirp of crickets as background noise.
And a fine morning for oatmeal!
I set my alarm a little early this AM. I have developed a fast habit of reading emails + blogs on my iPhone in bed when I first get up, and some days it’s more than a few minutes
So I set the alarm earlier so I’d be on schedule!
I came down at 7:20 and decided to do 20 minutes of Heart Opening Flow #1 before having breakfast. Ahhhhh. That guy burns my quads too!
Then I mixed up a big batch of classic oats –
The Mix:
- 1/3 cup oats
- 1/4 cup 9 grain cereal
- 1/3 cup soy milk
- 2/3 cup water
- Pinch salt
- Drizzle coconut butter (which is not liquidy thanks to warmer weather)
- Sprinkle Zoe’s Granola
- Blob of Barney Butter
- A few butterscotch chips
I want moreeeeeeee!
Today’s working will be MOWING!!! I was excited last night that I got to wake up, having a nice breakfast and then mow the lawn. It’s such fun exercise, and I usually burn about 300 calories (thanks to wearing my HRM a few times). Mowing is such satisfying work too. While I digest, I’m thinking about taking a warm-up walk with Cooking Light to do some meal planning.
I’m working today from 2-7pm, and Matt’s going to have dinner on the table when I return – sweet!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Jenna!!!!
And be sure to stop by Oh She Glows for the Shop 4 A Cause Charity Auction Angela is putting on.
Adios!

LOVE chirping crickets in the evening and in the morning. I think they’re the quintessential summer sound to me
Have a wonderful day Kath!
I’m so jealous it hasn’t really felt like summer up in NJ yet. I can’t wait unti it feels summery here!
Love your breakfast it looks delish, have fun mowing!
“working” for five hours… that is the life!
Your weather looks gorgeous! Boston is chilly and cloudy for a 4th day in a row!
jennifer ,
Well if you add in the 3-4 hours of blog work I do daily, plus more hours of freelance writing and guest blogging, you’d realize that’s only one of my jobs.
K
I love doing yard work! Monday I spent four hours setting up my lawn
NOthing like a sweaty “non-workout” haha
Have fun!
i love all the nature noises in the mornings lately.
sounds like a good day! I haven’t had butterscotch chips on my oats for a while – it may be time
Great looking bowl of Oats!
Butterscotch chips!! Yum! I love that blue bowl as well
Have a great day, Kath!!
Can’t go wrong with a good ol’ classic bowl of oats – the butterscotch chips are a great addition. Love the coconut chai too – all in all, a good mornight
Have a fabulous day~
Awesome oatmeal mix and that is the cutest bowl!
Be careful about reading blogs in bed… I used to have a hard time falling asleep at night and found out that it was because I would watch tv, go online, etc in my bed. After about a week using my bed ONLY for sleep, I was falling asleep instantly at night. I was told that if we use our beds for things besides sleep, our body’s response wouldn’t be to fall asleep at night when we tucked in. If you’re not having any problems, don’t worry about it, but I just thought I’d give you the head’s up!
Enjoy your mowing workout!!! Got any good tunes for today?
ooo I love that pretty blue bowl!
Glad I’m not the only one that counts mowing as an informal workout! I sweat like mad doing that so that makes it count in my book!
Man, I hate mowing the lawn and pay someone else to burn the calories, I’m glad you love it so much!
What a glorious start to your day!!! What a sweet hubbie for cooking dinner tonight too! Too darn cute.
Have a great day!
Your oatmeals are so creative — love it! Have fun mowing!
yummmm oatmealllll….. this winter i SWEAR i am going to eat oatmeal every single day. i got too lazy this past winter.
I’m so envious of your relaxing mornings! I get so irritated working 8-5.
Have a great day at work this afternoon.
Kath- I’m not beating you up, chill. But it is enviable to have enough time in a day to do yoga/mowing the lawn, plus a warm-up walk. If I can just get in cardio, I pat myself on the back.
Sorry J, I am just always quick to get defensive when I see your email. I should have reread.
Sounds like a fun day
That bowl of oats looks scrumptious!!
Jenn
I want that breakfast table!! So cheery and lovely.
sounds like its going to be a good day! i wish i had a big lawn to mow…haha actually, that’s a lie…i just wish i had a big lawn
For some reason whenever I make oats it never tastes quite as good as the way your bowls always just LOOK on here! haha
Your oats look so good! Your such a good photographer.. I”m still working on trying to make my pictures look appetizing haha!
Funny, I always thought I was crazy to enjoy mowing. I love the smell and how tidy the lawn looks when I am finished. Of course, we moved into a house with a tiny lawn, so we are looking at getting a reel mower to do it for extra exercise (and being green).
Yea, I’d like more of your oatmeal and I didn’t even eat any. It looks fiiiine today.
The first time I mowed the lawn was right before I got dressed for prom my sophomore year. It actually helped distract me and calm me before getting ready for the big night. It drove my dad nuts though because he loves to do it and my lines were nowhere near perfect. Oops.
I love counting mowing the lawn as a workout…it’s so productive and gets the heart pumping for sure.
Have a great day at work, Kath!
have fun at your internship tonight! sounds like you landed a great preceptor – where does mary work?
A beautiful bowl of oats, as usual!
I love the outdoors pictures of breakfast.
Oh wow, Jennifer needs to get a life or something… causing drama on a blog’s comments?? Seriously?
Your oats look amazing as always!
I always love when your oatmeal is on that table outside. It’s so pretty and colorful!!!
not causing drama
That’s so nice that you’re able to eat your oats outside! Haha I just typed “oatside” at first, whoops! It’s all rainy and gross here. I love those butterscotch chips!
Have a lovely day
The butterscotch chips is such a fabulous idea for a delicious addition to cereal. And coconut butter too. Yummm. it’s rainy and gross in Boston today (for the 3rd day in a row), so I’m a bit jealous of your beautiful weather!
What a great morning!
Heather,
I’ve read that too, but luckily I don’t have any trouble falling alseep at night (so long as I don’t drink caffeine in the afternoon!)
danielle ,
This isn’t my official DI internship – just a summer one for course credit. Mary owns Nutrition Specialists, a private practice in South End.
Kath
Kath, your oatmeal this morning looks like a perfect swirl…
It is finals week -may be going delirious..but doubt it
I love that bowl! It’s a nice combination of rustic and pretty.
