Big Breakfast, Little Mug

May 25, 2011

Went for another fun run this morning!!! I’m getting a bit more used to it, and settling on 4 miles online (rather than 5-6) makes it easier to do. So does the beautiful spring warm mornings!!

I was hydrated and dated up within 15 minutes of waking and out the door.

It was not my best run, but not my worst either. 4.0 miles on the dot! I also love the route I’ve been doing. I’m one of those people that prefers to do a mindless familiar route than something unexpected and different – although unexpected is always fun every now and then. But I like not having to think about my route or distance on these morning runs.

Overnight oats were waiting!!

The Night Ingredients
  • 1/3 cup raw rolled oats
  • 1/3 cup plain yogurt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • Half banana
  • Pinch salt
The Morning Ingredients
  • 1/4 muffin top
  • ~1/3 cup homemade granola
  • Sunflower butter <3

LOVED this bowl!!

I also love my cute little half cup of coffee mug more than any other mug I have ever owned!!!!!! I love the size + design. Thanks so much Jill!

And with that, I’m off to bike to work!

Big wheels keep on turnin’

I adore your coffee cup. Pottery is so beautiful and makes such a difference in the level of enjoyment of the meal. Recently, I’m drinking coffee from my Season 25/ Oprah mug!

2 Lindsay May 25, 2011 at 8:27 am

Love your place mat!! Have you seen this tee from Jcrew Outlet? Its a little expensive for a t-shirt, but I just loved it so much that I ordered one last week.

3 KathEats May 25, 2011 at 8:31 am

Oh wow, I DO love that!!

4 Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday May 25, 2011 at 8:34 am

So cute! Thanks for sharing Lindsay!

5 Holly @ The Runny Egg May 25, 2011 at 8:29 am

That is by far my favorite oatmeal bowl of yours — I just love the big handle!

6 Angela @ Eat Spin Run Repeat May 25, 2011 at 8:32 am

I’m with you on the mindless running route thing! I tend to like to zone out completely so if I’m running a route that I’m familiar with, it helps to make sure I don’t get lost! :)

7 Christine (Merf) May 25, 2011 at 8:32 am

Diggin your overnight oats. I forgot to make mine last night and am so disappointed.

We’ve decided to come to your bakery either the weekend of the 11th or the 18th. I can’t wait! Going to road trip it with my little boys.

8 KathEats May 25, 2011 at 8:58 am

Yay!!! Can’t wait to meet you!

9 Samantha Angela @ Bikini Birthday May 25, 2011 at 8:33 am

I like doing familiar running routes too.
I do one route regularly which is ALL county roads (ie. straight, flat, and miles long) and that can get really boring.
But I Especially like one route that is through nature with lots of trees and shade.

10 Kristen Waby May 25, 2011 at 8:35 am

So cute! I love the place-mat!

11 Ash @ Good Taste Healthy Me May 25, 2011 at 8:38 am

Cute spoon! Weird that I noticed that first….lol

12 Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table May 25, 2011 at 8:43 am

Cute nakin! Have you seen the bicycle plates at West Elm? They are white with blue hand-drawn bikes on them. Very cute and almost identical to your napkin!

16 Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) May 25, 2011 at 8:45 am

I love the bowl and the mug! Super cute. I hope you have a great day Kath!

17 Freya (Brit Chick Runs) May 25, 2011 at 8:45 am

I like the same ol’ running routes too :) It’s nice to know exactly how far I’ve gone, or have got to go, and to know when the hills are and when they’ll end!
Have a great day :)

18 r8chel May 25, 2011 at 8:47 am

I can’t tell how small the mug is, but I guess it makes the bowl look bigger than it actually is. :)

19 jenna May 25, 2011 at 8:48 am

wow i loveeeeeee your cute mug!!!! i love the size!

20 [email protected] Sweet Life May 25, 2011 at 8:49 am

You drizzle so beautifully!

21 Krissie J May 25, 2011 at 8:50 am

Cute mug indeed! I’m going to have to try this overnight oats thing. It sounds brilliant!

22 staceyhealthylife May 25, 2011 at 8:52 am

What a great way to start the day.

23 Baking 'n' Books May 25, 2011 at 8:57 am

Do you actually measure out your toppings or do you just guess-estimate?!

Sounds like your off to a good start!

24 Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey May 25, 2011 at 8:58 am

Overnight oats are a great breakfast on an already steamy (at least here in CLT) morning. :)

That half-cup coffee mug is adorable! Though I’d have to fill it about 6 times. hee, hee.

25 cathy May 25, 2011 at 8:59 am

i love the mug and the bowl. pottery is the best type of dishware.
i hear you on the mindless route – i don’t even like to do the same route but BAKCWARDS! messes with my mind!

26 Anna @ Newlywed, Newly Veg May 25, 2011 at 9:00 am

Ahhh, I still love that bike towel so much! Too cute!

27 Rebecca May 25, 2011 at 9:01 am

I love that bowl (and what’s inside it)!!! Pretty dishes make eating so much more fun :)
I totally agree about morning runs. Especially with the weather getting warmer, I love being out just as the sun is coming up. And running early always help get my day started on the right “foot”. 😉

28 Heather May 25, 2011 at 9:06 am

I typically run the same route – every day. honestly, I notice different things every time I run.

I wish I lived closer to a running path – I have a hard time justifying driving somewhere to run.

Enjoy your day!

29 Khushboo May 25, 2011 at 9:10 am

I prefer running familiar routes too. Last time I branched out, I got lost and it took me an hour to find my way back!

Just made some overnight oats for tomorrow. With the exception of adding cinnamon, my batch is bang on the same!

30 Kelly @foodiefresh May 25, 2011 at 9:22 am

That mug IS really cute. I like the little place for your thumb on the top of the handle. :)

31 Averie (LoveVeggiesandYoga) May 25, 2011 at 9:23 am

“I’m one of those people that prefers to do a mindless familiar route than something unexpected and different – although unexpected is always fun every now and then.”

Well said!!

I get my best thinking done on the same ole, same ole routes. I can truly zone out and detach and check out which helps me think extra well :)

I love your mugs and bowls. Always the best!

32 Kate (What Kate is Cooking) May 25, 2011 at 9:28 am

I have the same 4 mile route that I always do but I’ve done it at least a hundred times. I like to shake it up!

33 lynn @ the actor's diet May 25, 2011 at 9:35 am

simple, lovely, classic KERF breakfast :)

34 [email protected] Flying ONION May 25, 2011 at 9:39 am

I am in love with the idea of eating breakfast *after* my morning run. That sounds so ritualistic and lovely. Tomorrow I’ll try the “dating up” method and see how it goes. 😀

35 Miranda @ Working Mom Works Out May 25, 2011 at 9:39 am

I don’t like to think about my run routes either. We stick to greenways mostly for this reason. Also, I’m afraid of cars… not in general. Just when running.

36 Laura May 25, 2011 at 9:42 am

Are you still accepting drop in visitors to the Bakery before 6/3? Am going to be in town this weekend and would like to show it to my Mom from Ohio!

37 KathEats May 25, 2011 at 9:44 am

Yeah! I don’t know if we’ll be here over the weekend though – when are you planning to come by?

38 Laura May 25, 2011 at 10:35 am

Probably on Monday.

39 KathEats May 25, 2011 at 11:23 am

Oh cool – we’ll be here all day!

40 Katie May 25, 2011 at 9:43 am

LOVE the overnight oat combo! I think the muffin top on there makes me love it so much! YUM!

I also love the bowl its in!
Have great day Kath! xoxo

41 Brittany (A Healthy Slice of Life) May 25, 2011 at 9:45 am

I need to invest in some pretty cups and bowls- makes food that much more fun to eat! :)

42 Megan May 25, 2011 at 9:52 am

Love that placemat thing! And that is one gorgeous breakfast bowl!

43 Eileen May 25, 2011 at 9:52 am

Totally with you on the mindless routes. I have a 3-mile and a 4-mile loop that I could do in my sleep, and most days, they’re what I truly prefer to do.

Now, for a place where I’m *not* quite with you. I tried overnight oats for the first time this morning and didn’t like them at all. :( I think it was the yogurt; I may have liked them better with milk. But for summertime, I think I’m more inclined to make two or three days’ worth of oatmeal at a time, and have the leftover portions just slightly warmed up. Oh well … I never mind a kitchen experiment!

44 Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey May 25, 2011 at 10:39 am

Eileen – I didn’t like overnight oats the first time I made them (first few times, actually). But I love them now. Personally, I like the yogurt aspect of them; and for the record, the chia seeds make ALL the difference in the world. It’s a consistency thing, for me. And a little nut butter in the bottom of the bowl, doesn’t hurt either. 😉

45 SquatLikeALady May 25, 2011 at 10:07 am

I love that handle!!! :)
The other day I experimented with adding granola to overnight oats — YUM! What an awesome idea.

46 Cait @ Beyond Bananas May 25, 2011 at 10:12 am

If I could have one wish granted.. it would be for you to make me one of your pretty oat bowls.. always SO beautiful..and I am sure my taste buds would agree

47 Jil @ Big City, Lil Kitchen May 25, 2011 at 10:20 am

Oh those oats sound phenomenal!!

48 JenATX May 25, 2011 at 10:33 am

don’t you just love morning runs? Its much cooler outside and i just like the idea of running while some people are just starting their days :)

49 Natalia - a side of simple May 25, 2011 at 10:45 am

JUST so you know, I don’t mind test tasting any of your homemade GH granola 😉 Have a great day!

50 Tori (Fresh Fruition) May 25, 2011 at 10:48 am

Yum yum yum! Those oats look so good.

I’m pretty slow-going in the mornings, so I totally know how you feel with not wanting to think so much!

51 Sarah May 25, 2011 at 11:01 am

Nice job on the run. I like doing the mindless runs as well. When I don’t have to calculate my map ahead of time. Then I can let my mind go somewhere else.

Yummy breakfast!!

52 Anastasia May 25, 2011 at 11:02 am

The oats look so delicious! Sunflower butter is just amazing. It’s so good! I’m liking the coffee mug too.. very cute!

53 Michelle May 25, 2011 at 11:03 am

So envious of your motivation to lace up the sneakers in the morning. If I’m getting up early, it’s usually to take the dog to the park. Otherwise, I feel guilty!

54 Katie May 25, 2011 at 11:06 am

I LOVE morning runs! I started my morning with a 4 miler as well. It was amazing!

I tried sunflower butter one time and wasn’t a big fan but I’ve been seeing it all over the blog-o-sphere lately, I feel like I should give it another chance. :)

55 Shah'ada May 25, 2011 at 11:40 am

Cutest cup EVER!!! Where can we get one?

56 KathEats May 25, 2011 at 12:26 pm

57 Morgan @ moments of mmm May 25, 2011 at 11:42 am

I love the mug! My mugs are all fairly large and I never fill them more than 1/2, I think I need a baby one like this!

I also absolutely need some of TJ’s sunflower butter now! The picture was so enticing! HA

58 Maria May 25, 2011 at 11:47 am

Love the cute new mug. It definitely is the perfect size.

About a month ago you posted about the bag that you use to cary your SLR and I can’t find the post where you mentioned it. I have been admiring it in your photos ever since. What type of bag is it?

59 KathEats May 25, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I have a Lowepro bag and Jo Totes bag that I use

60 Hope May 25, 2011 at 11:58 am

I love the cup and mug! So cute! :)

61 Christian May 25, 2011 at 12:06 pm

If you are interested in more scenic running, you should try the trails and come out to some of our group runs.

62 KathEats May 25, 2011 at 12:27 pm

I’d love to when my schedule loosens up a bit!

63 kaila @ healthy helper! May 25, 2011 at 12:08 pm

64 Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife May 25, 2011 at 1:51 pm

You are so welcome!

66 Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin May 25, 2011 at 5:05 pm

“… carry me home to see my kin.” I can never leave lyrics unfinished. 😉

I like running familiar routes too so that I can know my distance without wearing my Garmin.

67 jamie May 25, 2011 at 8:34 pm

I have eaten Overnight Oats every morning for the past month or so. I LOVE THEM.
I use the one were you have 1/2 cup of oatmeal, yogurt, and almond milk. Then the next morning I add some defrosted frozen berry mix and banana…and then a tbsp of whatever peanut butter I am craving (Nutzao, white chocolate dreams, chocolate underground…)

I do like some yogurets better then others. Stonyfield is the best but having trouble finding the plain..been using dannons.

68 Jenny (Fit Girl Foodie) May 25, 2011 at 9:07 pm

What a cute little mug for your overnight oats. That muffin top topping must be amazing! :)

69 JoNita May 25, 2011 at 10:47 pm

I just love how you combine so many different things. I can never think of combinations to put together or things to buy. It always looks great!

Thank you for sharing. I really admire you.

70 Hannah May 25, 2011 at 11:46 pm

I wish someone had made that for me today, on my birthday…. 26ers unite! 😀

71 Alaina May 25, 2011 at 11:51 pm

Just have to say that I finally had chia seeds in my oats today and they were so hearty and fluffy! Add that they were part of OIAJ and it was the best breakfast. :-)

72 Jaclyn May 26, 2011 at 2:01 am

Love the mug!
