If you’re going to enjoy beer and French fries, it is best to choose really good ones. Like the Publick House in Boston!
I can’t remember the last time I enjoyed the two together, but they are not a classic combo for nothin’!
Who better to enjoy this combo with? Tina + Mal!
We met them for a few drinks and dinner on a chilly Friday night. We chose the Publick House for its super Belgian beer collection for Matt’s enjoyment.
I had an 11 ounce of the Chocolate Indulgence by Ommegang. It tasted like a Peanut Butter Cup!! I kid you not.
Tina knew how to order off the secret menu – as in the invisible one. “Bag of fries” was not on the menu, but she knew it was there. Our server did not blink an eye when we ordered it, and soon enough, a bag of fries was placed before us.
Filled with some of the best fries I’ve ever had – soft, crunchy
Along with truffle ketchup and beer mustard!
Round II was split between Larbs + me – her newest favorite!
And finally, we shared the Cisco Winter Woods, which tasted like a minty wine cooler. Did NOT like this beer!!! Gave it to the Matt’s.
For dinner Larbs and I shared the veggie burger, which came with bleu cheese and a side salad
It was a GREAT veg burger! Nice and juicy.
Matt’s sausage + veg mac and cheese was a hit as well!
After dinner we subwayed it back and then went to a get together for Larbs’s grad school program. I stuck to water by this point.
Love This Story
KERF Reader Molly and her friend Ling participated in a Secret Santa exchange. Molly had just introduced her friend to KERF and wanted to get her friend some fun foodie items frequently on blogs and asked my opinion on the very best from OpenSky. Garlic Gold, Nuttzo, chia seeds and Kodiak Cakes topped my list. Ling loved the items, and in exchange, Molly got a new oatmeal bowl! (Love the design from afar : ) )

My eyelids are so heavy by 11PM that I think they could participate in a BodyPump class. And I’m excited to sleep on this air mattress!
Nighhhht!

Hi Kath! I thought I saw you tonight! I was walking by The Public House after going to dinner at a nearby restaurant and I could have sworn I saw you! I’m a longtime reader of your blog (even won your Spark Book giveaway once) so it totally made my night. If it ever happens again I’m saying hi though!
Another spotting!? So exciting! That was definitely me!
I was wondering if you were going to meet up with Tina! Those fries do look delicious!
Hmm..bag o’ fries look delish. Looks like you’re having a great time so far!
Looks like a fun and great night!
I must say you and Larbs look really alike in the last photo of you two. Secret menu
Those fries are tempting! I’m so hooked on pumpkin beer these days
Yeah, a minty wine cooler sounds pretty gross! I wouldn’t have liked that either.
I am fascinated by this “fries in a bag” phenomenon — what makes them taste so good? The bag soaks up the grease?
Awesome! Loooove the Publick House….was just there this past Wednesday evening! The veggie burger is a favorite of mine too. Glad to see you’re enjoying “our” city.
Hmmm that first beer looked delicious. I’m craving some good beer in a bad way.
And oh those fries!!! Definitely looks YUM.
Yay! La Fin du Monde!
From La Belle Province du Quebec! Fantastic!
Thanks for featuring a Canadian beer…or should I say, biere!
Oooh. Truffle ketchup sounds yummy!
Oooo, when I still drank I loved La Fin Du Monde!!
Those fries look soooo good! Oh my gosh
Cute pic of you 3 gals
I love fries with the skin on! Mummm!
Larbs has excellent taste in beer–I was also loving some Fin du Monde this evening! I am jealous of your Boston adventure, I miss that city! Have extra fun for me
Heather beat me to it! La Fin du Monde is not a beer from Belgium but from Québec! A grreeaaat beer. You should try other beers from that brewery, they have a nice white beer called La Blanche de Chambly.
Oops!
Love your hair today!
bag o fries + tina = fun!
Beer, fries, and a veggie burger sounds so good!! I haven’t had many fries that I liked in the past 15 years, but those look like my kind! YUMMY
Hmm, it’s fitting that you say that beer is like a peanut butter bup, as I just bought 56oz of minitaures reese’s last week at Australia’s only Costco store… :/
Nice to see you!
oh that is such a cute story and another delicious meal!
The veggie burger looks good. What a fun night with friends.
Looks so good! Especially those fries!
Bag of fries, sold me right there that if ever in Boston I must go there!
U girls all look so beautiful!
I just read the first comment – so many KERF spottings lately!
I knew you would have to have a meet up with Mal and Tina when I heard you were going to Boston! Looked like fun!
Those look like my kind of fries! Good thing Tina knew to order them off the secret menu.
Whooa a PB cup beer, now that’s awesome!
Wish I could try Garlic Gold, etc.! You should convince OpenSky to ship to Canada!
Oh man – those fries look out of this world!
Glad to see you guys enjoyed La Fin du Monde from Quebec!
Beer that tastes like a PB cup? Yes please!
I’ve now drooled over those fries on 2 blogs this morning.
I’m really tempted to try that beer that tastes like a pb cup! How can you go wrong?
I was at the secret santa party you mentioned and it was so freaking cute when they realized that they both had each other and that they both got each other Kath Eats- themed gifts. Now they have us all reading your blog!
Thanks Kath for the great suggestions! I love my KERF inspired gifts- time to go fire up the Kodiak cakes!! Oh- BTW, Molly’s bowl and frame were bought at Greenheart- a fair trade store. http://www.greenheartshop.org/
Love this. Kath and Tina together!!!
That looks like perfect late-night, dinner food! Glad you had fun!
Those bagged fries look delicious!!! Something about fries in bags. I’ve always wanted to try’ em… one day… … …
The food looks delicious especially since I am living on Larabars and Amazing grass right now (until I fly home Friday). Can one sustain themself on this combo? I guess I am about to find out. The chocolate Ommegeng is one of my favorite’s and to find it on tap is rare.
PS. The flu shot was no match for whatever bug was on my plane
Truffle ketchup and beer mustard sound like the perfect accompaniments to fries (or chips as I call them over on this side of the pond!)
