You’re My Blue Sky

Mornin’ folks. Thanks for all the congrats on the Shape article – I still haven’t seen it! Grr!! Hopefully mine will come today.

I can see the blue sky peeking through the trees – yay! I am off to Organic in a few, then home to run, study all day, then out to dinner with friends for pizza!

Today’s Buttermilk Oatmeal:

  • 1/3 cup oats, 1/3 cup low-fat buttermilk, 1/3 cup plus a splash water
  • Salt
  • 1/4 banana (leftover)
  • 1/2 a big white peach
  • Ground flax
  • Jimmi Granola Plank
  • A few walnuts
  • AB

The buttermilk made it runnier than milk ๐Ÿ™ I think I’m done with buttermilk.

Dig in! Did you all know I eat my oatmeal from side to side? As in I start on one side, work down, and then work over? It’s so I don’t eat all the topping first and have some for the second half of the bowl ๐Ÿ™‚

DSC03233

With the usual, hot tea + vitamin –

I’m in my jock outfit ready for class! My hair doesn’t look bad because I washed it 12 hours ago but I did put on a little Bare Minerals ๐Ÿ˜ณ

I like your oatmeal system! I think I just dig in and end up devouring all of the toppings immediately.

Hope class is fun… and congrats on the Shape article (just got it yesterday) AND the Team KERF fundraising!

I eat my oatmeal the same way, it’s a good system! I tried a spoonful of PB on my oats for the first time this morning and MAN have I been missing out! Sooo good!! MMM.

Also, congrats on Shape! I haven’t seen the actual magazine but here’s an image of the cover I found online, for anyone interested. http://tinyurl.com/5d79hr

WOW ! I was so excited to see you in Shape magazine. ๐Ÿ™‚ Congrats ! You’re such an inspiration Kath. Reading your blog is what gets me going to the gym 5 times a week. If you can do it, so can I. Thanks !

I’ll probably gross everyone out, but my hair is so thick and coarse that I only wash it once a week. Otherwise it would turn to straw! I guess I’m lucky, it never gets greasy. And I know how to rock a good shower cap.

I’m still waiting on my issue of Shape, too!

I eat my oats the same way to make sure each bite has some topping. I haven’t seen your article in Shape yet either, but I am excited.. CONGRATS!

The Bare Minerals may not affect others like this but when I start to sweat (from hot weather or from working out) my face starts to sting. If I am going to the gym after work I have to make an effort to wash my face to get rid of the Bare Minerals before getting sweaty

Hi Kath! i LOVE your blog and find myself checking it all the time! i’ve tried so many of your GREAT recipes! This morning i made a WONDERFUL bowl of oats i thought i would share with you. I dont know if you are a fan of strawberry/banana combo, but this was fabulous! Oats, milk, water, 1/2 a banana….then add alittle vanilla, strawberries, other 1/2 of banana, a splash of SF syrup and Fiber One Caramel Delight for a crunch! The cereal is alittle high in sugar but well worth it!

I can’t wait to get the Shape issue with your feature! They only have September issues around here… which is odd for DC. Wonder where Quinn got hers? I think it’s so great you were featured. You are the perfect candidate! Did you submit your photo and bio for it? Or did they find you?

That’s a great way to eat your oatmeal! I usually do the top down because I usually only have 10 minutes and eat the cooler parts first ๐Ÿ™‚

Regarding your post on my blog – I think you should give the PB a try… it makes it pretty sweet, so I’d use sparingly (or maybe cut the PB on the spoon that day). I felt over sweetned this morning ๐Ÿ™‚

That’s not gross at all, I have thick naturally curly hair and my hairdresser told me to wash it no more then every 3 days! I usually can’t stand that and aim for ever other day, but your right, when you have thick hair it turns dry and crappy with to much washing!

Yeah, don’t feel gross about not washing your hair daily. It’s MUCH better for your hair to only wash it once or twice a week. I try to wash my hair as little as possible, but I live in FL and if I’ve gone for a long run outdoors and my scalp and hair is all sweaty, I can’t help myself and I wash it.

    Hi Kath and Community,

I hope I’m not over stepping the line here, but I thought since everyone is pretty community oriented…here goes:

Like Kath and the Husband, I’m running this fall too! I’m an admitting suck-tastic runner, but I made a promise to run the Children’s Hospital of PA’s Parkway 5k. It’s an annual competition that raises money for the pediatric cancer unit and research. I stated doing the Fun Walk in 2004, and it took 4 crazy long years to work up the courage to sign up for the run. I know for most of you, a 5k is a piece of (delicious) cake (mmm…caaaaake), but for this slow, plodding runner, it’s a long way. I can’t wait to do it, and if anyone would like to donate a dollar or two to a wonder cause, I’d appreciate it so much!

Anyway, I’ve converted and I was craving today’s bowl of oatmeal since yesterday. Unfortunately, I was not able to really enjoy it as I was rushing out to an appt. Take care.

Oh yeah, I have thick curly hair too. I rinse it out every night (to wash out the product) but I use shampoo/conditioner MAX once a week or else it gets really dry! Also the natural oils kind of help to keep the frizz under control.

i use TWO spoons for eating the oatmeal. one spoon is for pb and the other one is to eat the oatmeal. i also use the other spoon to scrape pb each time i take a bite so i haeve pb in every bite =]

Does anyone have the Nike+ Sport Band? http://www.nike.com/index.jhtml#l=nikestore,home,_pdp,cid-1/gid-181290/pid-181290&re=US&co=US&la=EN”

It’s like the Nike+system with the shoes – except you don’t have to use it with an ipod Nano and you don’t have to buy the special Nike shoes. You can buy a pouch (not from Nike) and put the sensor in it and attach it to your shoe laces and then wear the watch on your wrist. It has all the online abilities of the other Nike device but it’s only $59 plus a few bucks for the shoe pouch. I’ve been reading about this online today and it sounds great. Just curious if anyone has any personal experience.

I also eat my breakfast that way! I know you’re always looking for new oatmeal inspiration so I thought I would share with you my current favorite of the season. I take a ripe peach and cut it up, put it in a bowl with a bit of vanilla, a bunch of cinnamon, a touch of cardamom and about a half tablespoon of maple syrup. Microwave for a minute or so until soft and syrupy. Pour over oats and top with a dollop of plain yogurt. It’s amazing!

I love your blog, keep up the good work :]

I emailed my success story in to both Shape and Women’s World (plus some more – I was almost in Redbook but they had to withdraw because I had been in WW). If you want to be in a magazine you have to promote yourself!!
