You’re A Grand Old Flag

GRAND INDEED!

IMG_0951

Last night Matt and I hung up this beautiful flag that my grandmother gave me when she moved out of her house a few years ago. She has always had a thing for flags and had many in her house. This MAY have been a flag my grandfather brought back from WWII (because he did bring some home), but I’m going to guess it was a vintage find. We hung the ginormous flag on the porch in preparation for a party this weekend.

IMG_0958

Also hung on the walls – some new Victory Garden posters!!

IMG_0956

I now have these hung in three places in my house – that’s how much I love them. Just when I ran into Joe at the Seattle Fremont Market, we’ve been talking up doing a smaller set of four posters – 8×10 so they are easily frameable for a sale on OpenSky.

IMG_0950

I picked up these white frames at Target for $6 a piece and put the posters (which come with a matted look) inside. The OpenSky sale will be coming in the next few weeks I hope!

IMG_0955

Love how the make the porch feel more like a room (although I might take them down if a hurricane comes : ) )

I’m going to stick with my Monday Pump class for a bit because it’s mostly free weights anyways, but I decided to give up on traditional Body Pump for now – the bar was just too awkward to lift properly and it was hard for me to find the balance between challenging weight and a bar I could safely lift.

Thus, today I went to the gym and did a weight circuit using both machines and free weights. I felt great about it because I was able to use so much more weight with the support of the machines and felt I got a great burn! I did a circuit of 15 reps x 2 – took me about 30 minutes. Then some mega foam rolling. Plus 30 minutes of walking there and back.

Man, the weathermen were not joking about the heat!!

I walked outside with my lunch and my whole camera fogged. Back inside I went!

Lunch in the living room : )

I had a random mix today – leftover gratin

IMG_0992

PB toast

IMG_0993

And cottage cheese with jam and some of Matt B’s crackers

Need to go to the grocery store for supplies and we have a meeting with a pediatrician this afternoon!

That is a post 1959 flag since it has 50 stars. So it may be older, but definitely not from WWII.

Kath, I am intrigued by the bowls you do with dairy + baked good, like Greek yogurt + a crumbled muffin or the cottage cheese + crackers. You should do a post about them like you have the SIAB and overnight oats posts! I’ve never seen anyone else eat a muffin like that, heh.

WW11 end in 1945. The current flag of 50 states started towards the end of 1959. Don’t believe it’s from WWll unless your Grandfather got it from “Back in the Future”.

My sister had a big flag like this one that she hung in her bedroom when we were growing up. Yours looks beautiful on your porch. 🙂

Sorry to hear that you had to put Body Pump on hold temporarily but glad you can still keep up a routine! Safety first. I had an instructor this past fall that pumped up through her due date then finally was induced the day after she taught her last class because she was tired of waiting. She said the baby must have liked the music. 😉 I know Erica at itzyskitchen also taught pump right up to the end. Different strokes for different folks.

That gratin still looks delicious! And everytime I see an american flag my first thought is that I hope they didn’t let it touch the ground! My dad took all the rules regarding flags very seriously and taught them to us growing up. Haha I was scared to handle the flag!

Haha. I think those rules are sort of silly. When I first got this flag I thought “tablecloth!” and my mom was like “NOOOOO!!!” I didn’t realize there were so few things you could do with a flag. I love the USA and would like to put the flag everywhere – no disrespect at all! But I guess it might come off the wrong way, so we’re sticking with traditional hangings. I can’t say it didn’t touch the porch floor during its hanging yesterday though..

Kath, I would love to see a post just about your porch. I think so many of us look at your porch pictures and wish longingly for our own. Are there skylights in the porch? The natural light in there seems amazing. And what does this amazing porch look like from outside? We need a total porch pictorial.
