You Saw It Coming

Bourbon Ball Oats!

DSC07268

Don’t worry, I used a really tiny ball

 this !

I actually started today with a workout. I was up at 6:30 and on the ET by 7. It was my last day to get in some good machine cardio before I enter the unknown workout realm of traveling, which is usually running intensive. So I did 26 minutes on the ET while I waited for a Stepmill to open up and finished with an unknown time there. Unknown because a lady stepped on my cord and unplugged the machine halfway through so I lost my time. I think I did about 30 minutes total though – I had to finish Women’s Health! Magazines are really a great way to get in 10 more minutes 🙂

THEN, I came home and officially started the day with yoga 🙂 I’m loving doing it daily now, but I know when I’m back in school I won’t be able to do it everyday. But the great thing is that I don’t have class on T/TH this upcoming semester, so I am thinking about making T/TH and Saturdays my yoga days. Sounds like a plan! Today I did the a 20 minute Heart Opening Flow. I DO NOT LIKE WARRIORS!!! Anything with a lunge just makes me cranky. But I still liked this class overall a lot. Finally I ended with 5 Minute Abs, which I purchased yesterday with my 50% off code. The class was almost a little too short – I should have gone with the 8 minutes. And there was nothing special about it – you could easily just do 5 minutes of ab exercises yourself, but it was kind of fun to have someone telling me what to do.

Then I showered.

Then I made my oatmeal!

The mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, frozen/thawed banana (see below) pinch salt
  • 1/4 cup GoLean Crunch, stirred in
  • 1/2 tbsp ground flax, stirred in
  • 1 tsp coconut
  • 1 tsp coconut butter
  • 1 small bourbon ball, crumbled
  • A few walnut pieces
  • Spoonful Barney Butter

I really couldn’t taste the bourbon ball that much – I should have added a shot of fresh bourbon 😉

+ coffee!

I froze an extra ripe banana a few weeks ago when I had an overflow and since my goal was to make it through Xmas without another grocery store trip, I used it up this morning. It looked kind of gross after thawing in the fridge overnight, but it still tasted good and served its purpose. I didn’t want to add it to the oats frozen because I thought the extra cold might delay the cooking in a negative way. Maybe next time I should do that though.

Fresh out of the freezer and 24 hours later

The rest of morning is PACK PACK PACK!!!

+ Laundry

+ Empty Dishwasher

See you for a later lunch!

I knew it! I thought we would see those bourbon balls again 🙂

I’ve used frozen bananas in my stove-top oats often, and it does not take much longer to cook. It does help a little if you let the banana sit out for about 15 minutes or so first.

Haha, I’m looking forward to bourbon-everything on KERF. I like the concept 🙂 No bourbon coffee with your oats, though?

Can anyone describe how bourbony a bourbon ball tastes? I’m not a huge fan of bourbon, but I am a HUGE FAN of anything candy like, haha. My husband drinks Maker’s Mark so I have some on hand, and I’m tempted to make some…

Q: Did you do 30 minutes on Stepmill or 30 total Stepmill/Elliptical?

    Just wondering!

    BethT ,
If you don’t like bourbon, I doubt you’d like the balls. Some are stronger than others, but there’s definitely a bourbon taste.

    Maureen ,
Darn! I didn’t think of that!!

I feel the same way as you about the gym time in the beginning of this week! Once I am back home with my family, who knows how I will fit in exercise? It’s important for my well-being to get some time under my belt now!

I’ve used a frozen ripe banana before, but I did not thaw it first…didn’t seem to have a problem, but I also microwave my oats every morning and make quick-oats, so I guess it’s not a fair comparision!
