Wild Ride

Charlottesville is still such a wild ride!! Matt and I went out for a quick run mid morning. My Garmin died on me, but I think we covered about 4 miles up and down every hill around.

While I dolled up, Matt assembled lunch.

IMG_0422 (640x427) (2)

Spinach salad with summer veggies, Garlic Gold, salt and pepper, sunflower seeds and leftover pasta. Plus Mediterranean hummus from Harris Teeter (which was just OK)

IMG_0425 (640x427) (2)

Ballin’

Haircut!!

IMG_0419 (640x427) (2)

He gave the garden a haircut too – and is going to plant some fall veggies! SO EXCITED!

IMG_0420 (640x427) (2)

I’ve just about finished packing. Luckily this is a short trip compared to my recent 12 day adventure.

Hit the road, jack.

Isn’t it crazy how hard hills are when you aren’t used to them? When we first moved to Altoona last year, I thought I’d never run outside again, ha!!! Luckily, I feel like they got expoentially easier with every run. Now I tackle them with ease! Well…maybe not ease…but at least I don’t feel like I’m going to die by the time I get to the top 🙂

    Safe travels!

Your lunch looks delicoius! Lil jealous. Wish I had a garden, my yard is like rock, the dirt is SOOO hard you can’t even put a shovel in the ground, very frustrating! Growing grass was like .. an endless battle, we’ve decided to just gravel the entire thing lol Hope your time away is good : )

Don’t know what circumstances are for your ‘Rock Like’ yard; but if you have not filled it in with gravel yet, there might be some alternatives to a ‘yard full of’ gravel. If not a regional arid circumstance and not too large an area, aesthetic options could include truck load(s) of top soil to amend and plant the yard/garden you desire; install hardscapes (pavers, decks, etc.) with some added soil for small areas of gardens; or consider raised beds. Gravel could be an effective an less expensive option to pavers if done in moderation if used as a meandering pathway through some type of planting–even in ‘Rock Like’ yard, some native plant material to that environment can thrive. Good Luck!

Hi Kath-I found your site through a friend. We just moved a few weeks ago and live in C’ville too. The Rivanna Trail runs by our house and it has really nice trails. The trailhead starts in Riverside Park (end of Chesapeake St. off of Meade). It is relatively flat and runs through the woods next to the river. We love it!

Thanks for your site. Glad I found you.
