While You Were Sleeping

Foodblog-4128

3 fer 3.

Third night in a row I am wide awake between 3-4 am! I was actually hungry pretty quickly last night, so I went straight to the mug of cereal hoping that would do the trick, but unfortunately, I was still up until about 6am and then drowsy enough to dose until 8. Thankfully I don’t feel that tired, but I imagine this is going to catch up with me!

I Google “is insomnia a sign of impending labor” and pretty much concluded NO it’s a sign of being very pregnant – bummer!! Ha ha.

Foodblog-4129

A big bowl of oatmeal got me started on the day.

1/3 cup oats with milk + water + chia seeds + pinch salt stirred in a chopped peach and 1/3 cup cottage cheese at the end of cooking. Almond butter and Cville Cluster on top!

Foodblog-4131

Earl Grey – hoping that tiny boost of caffeine does something good for me!

Happy 35th Wedding Anniversary to mom + dad! They were hoping for the baby to come today, but so far I don’t think that’s going to happen!

I am convinced the insomnia late in pregnancy is to prepare you for the broken bouts of sleep you will be getting once your sweet baby arrives! Sleep deprivation was much easier to handle for me the second time around, but it is amazing how after a while your body just adjusts. Hang in there!

I found that all the waking up in the last few weeks actually was nature’s way of preparing me for all the splotchy sleep during several months of nighttime feedings for the baby.

Kath, I wanted to tell you – I don’t have a Trader Joe’s nearby but was down in Charlotte last weekend and made a TJ stop. I picked up smoked trout per your recommendation and opened a tin this weekend. Holy crap. It. is. so. good. I am so sad that I only got two tins! I’m definitely going to stock up next time I go. Thanks again. 🙂

Thanks everybody, for the lovely anniversary wishes. And thanks about my dress. Laura was contemplating wearing it but decided not to, but there was some discussion of cutting it off for her to wear late in the night for dancing. I can’t bear to cut it, by all my friends are saying, “Chop away.” I won’t though. I’m saving it for granddaughter dress ups someday.

That bowl of oatmeal looks so delicious with all of the different ingredients! Naturally Nutty Cinnamon Vanilla is THE best – I can go through a jar of it in less than two weeks. It’s really good smothered on graham crackers for dessert 🙂 Side note – when I pulled up this post and saw the title, I really thought you were going to say that you had your son last night while we were all sleeping!! 😉

I cook with Coach’s oats maybe 20% of the time. I’ll usually note when I do. I like them a lot! They are about the same in flavor but a heartier texture.

I remember being told that if you had insomnia at the same time every night during the end of your pregnancy, that was going to be the time your babe would wake up for feedings once they arrived. It was true for me. Maybe your body is prepping for that?
