When I Rule The World

Schlafly beer for all!

IMG_3174Blog

This afternoon’s doctor’s appointment went well. There is such buildup over a female exam and it’s really no.big.deal.

The Dough Is Mixing = Future Bun In The Oven

Guess what?! We’re thinking about having a baby in the next year!

Maybe this fall. Maybe next winter. Maybe next summer.

But the time is approaching. I’m almost 28.5 years old! We have to get the bakery up and going, but it’s on my radar. I talked to my doctor about it today.

I decided I should be totally open with the blog world because don’t you think it would be pretty obvious if I just stop drinking alcohol and post just toast for breakfast!? Or eat only barrels of pickles? I can’t hide anything from y’all so trust me – I’ll tell you when it’s time!

And it’s not time quite yet!

Pruned.

After my appointment, I went straight to the gym. I packed up my CORE bag full of…my bathing suit!!! YEP – first swim session since it was warm out! Warmer mindset = swimming is fathomable. I didn’t bike there or do anything else active today, so I told myself to swim for 45 minutes. I didn’t love it (I never do) but I enjoyed it.

The best part was 5 minutes in the hot tub at the end! I pretended I was back in Florida 🙂

Today was Karen’s second chemo treatment, and Matt was her caretaker. The treatment went until later this evening, so we decided to pass on the First Friday Gallery Crawl this month.

I stayed home and opened a beer!

Beerz-2Blog

Schlafly Pumpkin Ale is AMAZZZZZZZZZZZZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had planned dinner at the galleries tonight, so we had to break into Sunday night’s meal plan!

Organic chicken sausages (from Whole Foods) on Matt’s homemade buns – all grilled a little too much

IMG_3179Blog

Plus grilled broc in truffle salt, sesame seeds and sriracha!

IMG_3183Blog

Plus two fun drinks – sparkles and a taste of Matt’s bock

IMG_3184Blog

IMG_3178Blog

I bought him these awesome beer towels for Valentine’s!!!

IMG_3187Blog

Porter is under Matt’s plate!

IMG_3181Blog

Congrats to Alison, who was emailed as the Mahi Gold dress winner this afternoon!

For all of you who did not win, here’s a winning 20% off coupon the company offer to help lessen your sadness: enter KERF for 20% off.

Movie night?

***

Edited to add that I just had an amazing frozen cookie topped with the new Great Harvest Naturally Nutty Chocolate Vanilla almond butter and it rocked my world!

I already have a son, and had him very young, and having him changed my life in the BEST way! It truly is amazing! I never knew I could love someone so much! He is my everything!

I would eat saltine crackers for morning sickness and suck on ice cubes, that helped me, I never craved pickles! lol! I do love them! Will be so fun to read about your journey when the time comes!

Have a great nigh kath ! <3 xoxo

Woo glad you like Schlafly’s! They make amazing beer and the brewery itself is just fantastic. They strive to use tons of local food on their menu and host the winter farmer’s market, along with a million other awesome “green” events. They’re awesome and one of my fav parts about moving to St. Louis!

And congrats about your big decision 🙂

I would love to be pregnant the same time you are so that I could follow in the steps of a pregnant RD! 😉 Funny too, I just had my obg-yn appt. this past January and brought up the same topic with her!

I posted two weeks ago about going to the ob/gyno and how important regular exams and checkups are for women. Taking care of things preemptively is the best way. I felt silly about doing the post, but like blogging about becoming debt free, I figure these things may be a little out there, but they may help someone too. Glad you posted about it!

Onto having a baby…have fun making one 🙂

And when the time is right, and it happens, you and Matt will be fabulous parents! I never ever wanted one. Then I hit 28, and had to have one. Like yesterday. And I did, and she’s 4 and the light of my world.

Congratulations on your future baby plans!! We certainly would be suspicious if all the beer pictures went away 😉

I want to reiterate for everyone that the female exam is no big deal — I went in for a chat with my doctor last week and SURPRISE, I had to have my 1st full exam right then and there. I was a wreck because I was told I wouldn’t need it for 2 more years (I’m 19) but it was so harmless and painless! I know many women put it off in fear of pain, embarrassment, etc but — GO DO IT! There are much more painful, embarrassing things (I’ll leave it at that!).

I can’t wait for baby KERF and to see if he/she gives you trouble during the picky eater stage! We’re kind of in a similar spot…we’re getting ready to hopefully start trying in the next year or so. I actually have my annual appointment on Monday, and it felt so weird clicking the “I would like to discuss pre-pregnancy planning” button on my online registration! I think we’re both still getting used to the idea!

I don’t mind the annual exams, but I’m not really sure what questions to ask about possibly-maybe TTC in the next year. Any suggestions?

Yay, babies! I have two (that are really no longer babies at 4 and almost 6). If you are going to try to plan the time of year, SPRING is, IMO, the BEST time to have babies – warming weather (=much easier baby-dressing!) and declining germ populations. My oldest is a late March baby and I loved having her then, much better than mid-January with my youngest. FYI she was conceived ~July 1. 😉 Good luck!

Also, thanks for reminding me I really need to call and make THAT appt!

Congrats on the future baby plans!

But, don’t worry – 28 is not so old. I felt kind of bad when I read that, because I’m 34 and I am feeling the biological clock ticking. If 28 is old, then I’m very old! 🙁

Maybe in the next year, we’ll become pregnant at the same time. 🙂 Fingers crossed.
It will be great to see what your eating and exercising habits are during pregnancy. I’m sure it will be a great example to follow.

I thought that too Suzanne 🙂 I am 33. I also know that just saying you are going to have a baby does not mean you are going to get pregnant right away. But then again 2 years of infertility has me jaded.

Good luck Kath with all your future endeavors and may you get a little one when you are ready!

Aw, Lori – I wish you happy baby news soon! Hang in there and don’t lose hope. It is definitely true that just because you want a baby, and try for one – doesn’t mean it will happen as soon as you hope. I regret waiting too long waiting for the right time….but there is no use dwelling on the past. We have to look ahead, right? Best to you!

I want to say again how much I enjoy your blog. I can tell you put your heart and soul into this and it absolutely shows. It gives so many of us a sane, rational voice in the loud and dishonest world of many (MANY) who try to profit by selling us “magic pills” or gimmicky diet books.

I know your message will never change because it’s true. Real Food works for Real People. Keep up the Fantastic job of informing us of all the great food and recipes this world has to offer.

P.S. I heard 2 moms talking at the school today and the one was telling the other that donuts were healthier than a bagel because they were less calories and gave instant energy. ARGGGGGG!!!!! Later I of course let them (separately) know of your blog.

I also just had that same chat with my OBGYN this week. We are almost 28 and thinking that way as well. It was very anti-climactic, especially with regard to the nutrition part (I’m a dietetic intern right now). She said everyone regardless of preg status should be taking a multivit which I do not agree with. All that “advice” cost me a $25 copay! I guess better safe than sorry tho.

He thinks we should have a kid while I’m still taking classes… I don’t think I’m quite up for that. Sleep is much to important! But since I am a tad impatient for that point in my life, I love to read about it on blogs. I suppose I live vicariously through the writer. I think you guys will be amazing parents. As someone who is on the other side of having babies, I think it’s good you’re starting to think about it. There’s never a perfect time, and I have way too many friends (and speak from personal experience) who ran into age-related infertility problems. No matter how many older moms (espec celebs), pregnancy is better achieved while women are younger. Whenever the time comes though, it will be exciting news and you and Matt will be great parents.

Gosh, you are so brave to announce that you are thinking of trying for a baby. I really hope you guys have no problems conceiving- we tried for 4 years to have a baby (including time with specialists in Cville), and it was BRUTAL when everyone else was having zillions of babies without trying at all. We have finally been blessed with a “surprise” baby (since we had basically given up), but while we were in the trenches, the only people I felt comfortable with sharing about our “trying” was my infertlity bloggy buddies! I wish you success! Feel free to email me if you end up needing any questions about ttc (trying to conceive)- I won’t say I know everything, but I have been around that block many thousands of times.

I just want to say that, even though you think you want to/will have to share everything openly, don’t be afraid to change your mind. Trying to conceive … then pregnancy … then childbirth … then parenthood … is all a big lesson that we are not always in control.
