Weekend Visitors

Grammie Buzz and Pea came to visit this weekend!

Foodblog-4788

(Grand Pepaw has transformed into simply P which I think is cuter as Pea!)

KAY-4823

We had a great time eating and playing.

Foodblog-4739Foodblog-4738Foodblog-4764

Thursday we went on our date night. Before we left, we set the grandparents up with homemade pizza, salad and wine.

Foodblog-4745

We put Mazen to bed and left them watching him sleep on monitor. Luckily all went well!

Foodblog-4746

The next day we went to Great Harvest to visit the bunnies

Foodblog-120355 Foodblog-115907

And ate sandwiches. Pimento cheese is the best!

Foodblog-120526

And read stories

Foodblog-121400

Lots of playing and napping followed!

Foodblog-4828

That night we grilled mushrooms and asparagus

Foodblog-4760Foodblog-4761

And ate burgers (mine was a leftover Mamapea millet burger)

Foodblog-4769

Foodblog-4767

What was Matt thinking!?

Foodblog-4771

The Easter grandma brought some treats for Mazen and me that we split up for dessert that night

Foodblog-4774

I enjoyed these so much in a variety of little bite-sized pieces!

Foodblog-4773

Saturday breakfast. Hot cross bun, banana + PB and yogurt.

Foodblog-4778

I went to the gym and then after noon nap we went out to lunch

Foodblog-4792

Foodblog-4817

To Eppies, where I had the best Santa Monica salad with black beans and cornbread

Foodblog-4816

We had fabulous weather so we were able to sit outside! Mazen likes his new Uppababy G-lite petite umbrella stroller : ) (We got a 2012 model on sale)

Foodblog-4811

I took advantage of mom being here and prepared dinner after lunch since they were heading back to NC later that afternoon. Then I just had to put it in the oven when I was solo again.

Marinated tofu in Bone Suckin’ sauce, sweet potato fries and kale chips. The sweet potato was totally fine being cut open hours before it baked. I put it in the fridge covered in the mean time.

Foodblog-4830

Coconut butter was the best part –

Foodblog-4836

Plus the last baby bread bunny standing!

Foodblog-4834Foodblog-4832

Our little Easter ham

Winking smile this !

Foodblog-4855Foodblog-4881

Foodblog-4890

We hosted Easter dinner for Matt’s aunt+uncle+cousins and Karen.

Foodblog-4902

Foodblog-4898

The fish was rolled in Whole Foods’ Lemon Almond panko and then seared and baked for 10 minutes. It was perrrrrfect!

Foodblog-4903

I love asparagus most grilled <3

Foodblog-4905

I made the risotto in the rice cooker. It was really good, but not quite as good as a traditional risotto. But given the hands-off time, I’ll take it. Peas, cremini mushrooms and risotto rice plus parmesan, butter and 2 tbsp heavy cream to finish.

Foodblog-4907

We had Great Harvest pesto parmesan swirl and hot cross buns!

Foodblog-4906

Foodblog-4911

Karen’s cheesecake was the BEST! The crust….toffee love!

That stroller looks really nice. Good choice.

Mazen has got to be the happiest baby. 🙂 He’s got such a sweet smile and he always looks so happy. I can see a lot of your mom in his face.

I’m glad you all had a nice Easter.

Mazen is seriously too cute! Such good eats Kath! I think I’ll grill my asparagus tonight instead of roast. Whole Foods will marinate any fish you buy from them for free (not sure about the bread crumbs though). They are good at pairing flavors if you’re not in the mood to think of something yourself or spend the extra $ on the pre-marinated ones they offer.

The Easter Bunny brought a cinnamon chip bunny-shaped loaf for my kiddos. Well, my kiddos and the adults, who all enjoyed it immensely. I didn’t see any of the baby ones at our Farmers Market, but maybe they were out or just didn’t make them. I notice they seem to carry different breads than you show. Perhaps a store-by-store thing? I chatted for awhile with the young man. Such a nice company, though as much as I love the bread, we can’t justify the costs of it on a regular basis. I love the sweet breads for an occasional Sunday treat though.

Oddly enough, your Easter menu looks a lot like ours! We also had fish, risotto with peas, and GH bunny bread and rosemary rolls 🙂 I grew up in the Greek Orthodox church and they use a different calendar, so this year our Easter is in May. However, I get to celebrate two Easters and did an “adult easter egg hunt” with close family friends. We hunted for money and drank beer while we did it 🙂

How do you define “real food”? This is how I define it- http://www.100daysofrealfood.com/real-food-defined-a-k-a-the-rules/ and those Easter candies, among other things I have seen on your blog, do not fit that definition of real food.

No, they’re not real food. But I don’t eat a 100% perfect diet. My goal is 80/20 real food to realistic food.

        April 5, 2013 at 8:11 pm

I’m also a believer of the 80/20 guideline. Cutting foods out of your life entirely can backfire – making them even more enticing because they’re forbidden. In terms of happiness and health, I think it’s best to enjoy everything in moderation.

And I love 100 days of real food, but the Leakes occasionally eat junk food outside of the home, they just don’t keep it in the house 🙂
