Weekend.

Foodblog-3396

What better way to start the weekend off than a date night?! We actually had no plans, and I texted our neighbors to see if they did. They offered to watch Mazen while we went out, and of course we’ll return the favor soon!

Foodblog-3377

Since we hadn’t been to a Market St. wine tasting in ages, we headed there first. Yum!

Foodblog-3378

Our dinner destination, Brookville, didn’t open to the public till 7 due to a private event, so we killed some time at Second Street Art Gallery.

Foodblog-3382

And then around 7, we sat down to dinner.

Foodblog-3391

Two glasses of red –

Foodblog-3388

and popcorn welcomed us in.

Foodblog-3390

I love that Brookville offers a Southern spin on tapas, so we decided to share a bunch of small plates.

To start – fried shitake mushrooms!

Foodblog-3392

Followed by a beet salad with goat cheese and a boatload of parsley. I loved the contrast of flavors in this one!

Foodblog-3394

We also ordered a biscuit. Their biscuits are PERFECTION! Especially stuffed with pepper jelly and goat cheese!

Foodblog-3393

Our other small plates included this epic grilled cheese with bacon and apple

Foodblog-3398

And these local sausages cooked in a maple sauce.

Foodblog-3399

And this roast beef sandwich with horseradish appeared compliments of the chef!!!

Foodblog-3400

We couldn’t resist ending the night with one of Brookville’s famous bacon chocolate chip cookies – baked to order so it’s hot and gooey!

Foodblog-3402

Saturday morning I was up early to get to an 8am athletic conditioning class. I met two of my friends for a rockin’ class in the dark with strobe lights and all!

Foodblog-33 this !

I had a pumpkin smoothie at the gym for breakfast afterwards (along with a how shower!) I asked about the smoothie ingredients and they normally make it with cider, so I subbed in milk instead for more protein. It was delish!

Foodblog-57

Then I met the boys and KK at the market! We walked around for a bit until KK took Mazen on a bus ride up to the mall and back! M LOVES riding the bus!!

Foodblog-03

I did some solo shopping at the market and nearly wiped out the Sweet Sandies Sweet Potato + Marshmallow ice cream sandwiches!!

Foodblog-38

I spent some time at the Girls Day Out truck – scroll down for a giveaway!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Foodblog-39

For a late lunch I brought home a crabcake sandwich from the market and paired it with…a pear!

Foodblog-3403

Later in the afternoon I snuck out during M’s naptime to go to my friend Ellen’s Stella and Dot holiday trunk show.

Foodblog-38-2

Such beautiful pieces! I got the pair of studs you see below. They are reversible!

Stella

We had a chill evening at home and made a gumbo-y soup with sausage, zucchini and rice.

Foodblog-3407

And we drank this amazing bottle we brought home from our Sonoma trip!!!!!

image

I fell asleep watching Portlandia!

Foodblog-3411

Sunday morning we walked downtown for breakfast at The Nook! Just look at their matching coats!!

Foodblog-3412

My goal was to eat a big enough breakfast to satisfy lunch as well because I had a 2pm soccer game and knew I couldn’t eat much before. Mission accomplished! I had this amazing pumpkin waffle (3/4), a bunch of scrambled eggs and several cups of decaf coffee.

Foodblog-3422

We have experimented with leaving the stroller at home because Mazen likes to walk, but he still gets tired and needs a ride sometimes!

Foodblog-03-2

Also on Sunday: toddler bed conversion! M has started to want to sleep in his twin bed and climb out of his crib with more frequency. We felt the timing was right to turn his crib into a bed he can climb in and out of a little easier. He really likes it and took a 3 hour nap in it on Sunday afternoon!

Foodblog-24

Meal prep…

Foodblog-3424

And then my final soccer game of the season. We scored 2 goals in the first few minutes and a third just after halftime. This was a team we had lost 6-0 to in the past so we were thrilled to be winning most of the game! We stayed ahead until they somehow came back to tie us. Double overtimes later, we lost 3-4 Sad smile I played 110 minutes straight of soccer and now I can barely hobble around! Can’t wait for the spring…although I’m signing up for indoor winter league too!

Foodblog-32

And now for the giveaway – Girls Day Out Amy wanted to offer you guys a chance to win this totally chic antlers necklace!

KERFGDO

a Rafflecopter giveaway

I’m lucky to be able to shop in person, but you can find Amy’s work on Etsy and news on Facebook! ALSO you can get 20% off anything on Etsy through Nov 30 with the code KERFGDO! Happy Xmas shopping : )

My daughter and I got pedicures, painted a piggy bank and a dish at Paint Yourself Silly, shopped for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child items, watched volleyball, made pumpkin smoothies, watched Little House on the Prairie, made brunch together, went to a holiday open house, went to her last volleyball game of the season, made and ate dinner with the family, read with my son, tried to finish The Book Thief, all fun things from the weekend! BTW, I had a really weird dream last night that involved a bunch of blogs being turned into a movie, but the actors that played you and Matt totally didn’t look like you. Who would you choose to play you in a movie? Just curious.

I’m late to the party, but I wanted to comment (I’m a different Jill, btw). We sometimes share a babysitter with friends at their house, and we’ll bring our pack n’ play for our almost-2 year old. We gently rouse him to get him into his carseat and then his crib afterwards, but he stays pretty sleepy and goes right back to sleep when we get home. We don’t do it often, but it certainly works well for all of us.

He takes forever to fall asleep, and is getting up and down the whole time. He screams if we close the door. And then he’s waking at least 3 x a night! My newborn is sleeping so much better than my toddler! He really wasn’t mentally ready to convert, but we had to when he started jumping out of the crib over and over. We are at a loss…been going on for a month now. :/

This weekend my husband and I hung out with another couple all of Saturday, catching up, brewing a new IPA recipe, and cooking a fabulous meal together. 🙂

We actually were trying to decided between the Highlander, Sienna, and Odyssey. We ending up going with the Odyssey because it had higher safety ratings, but if we buy a new SUV in a few years, we are getting a Highlander because we loved driving it!

    HI Kath,

Would you recommend the boots Mazen has on as snow boots? I was looking at the Kamik boots on Amazon (are those they?) – they seem to be easy to get on and off and have good traction. We are visiting NYC this Christmas and from India…so I really have no idea. Would be great if you could recommend – my daughter is 18 months. Thanks!
