Uneventful Morning

Lunches are always the hardest to blog since not much happens in my life between 8 and noon and brown bag foods don’t need much explanation! So without further ado I give you…..

Smoked Salmon, Laughing Cow and Romaine on Rudi’s Honey Wheat

A yummy little apple –

And Strawberry Chobani and GoLean Crunch –

I ate slowly today and really focused on savoring every bite. It worked!

Off to study some more Micro, then to Chem Lab (groan).

My complete breakfast held me over beautifully. As usual, my stomach started to cry wolf with hunger around 10:30/11 but it was nothing some water and a mint couldn’t sweep back in the closet. I was just getting hungry for real around 12:30 and probably could have gone until 1. Sweet! But I missed the fun of eating oats and am already looking forward to tomorrow’s bowl 😀

It went OK. It’s hard stuff now! Get it back on Friday I think. I get my other Nutrition test back on Tuesday – I’m crossing my fingers I did well on that one!

    Kath,

I am interested in knowing what you mean by your stomach crying wolf. Stomach hungry is generally my sign to eat. How did you know that your stomach was “crying wolf”?

That sandwich looks amaaaazing. Man do I ever wish I had some smoked salmon right about now.

I’m impressed that you are able to resist a feeling of hunger just on mints and water. I do it sometimes but a lot of the time I just can’t help but give into some munching. Then again, I guess a lot of the time that hunger feeling isn’t really hunger is it. Because so often just a good water chug makes all the difference.

I think I know how to use up the rest of the smoked salmon in my fridge now. Usually Bobby is the only one who eats it but that looks delish.

I have to try the water+mints thing, because all too often I resort to diet soda. I should probably try seltzer, but I go through phases – sometimes I love it, and others I can’t stand it.

    Hi Emmalyn,

Karen is Kath’s mother-in-law aka the husband’s mom.

Hope everyone’s having a great day. We’re having an absolutely gorgeous early fall day here. I took a long walk and soaked it in. My favorite time of year, for sure!

    zestycook ,
    Cool 🙂

    Christie i.,
Agreeing with what Kristie said, it wasn’t really hunger. Hunger is slow starting, stomach growling. I’ve always asked myself “Would a can of string beans be appealing right now?” If the answer is yes, it’s time for more fuel. If what I am hungry for is a sweet carby bar, crackers, crunchy things, etc., it’s probably just boredom or even more common: thirst. From experience I’ve learned that my stomach does this weird kind of “hunger” around 10:30/11 but I have learned this is my cue to drink more water. I’m sure many people think they are truly hungry at this point, and I used to, but trial and error made me realize that if I just give my stomach something to drink, I’m back to being satisfied from breakfast. Then around noon, I always get the real signs of hunger: rumbling stomach, low energy, etc. I think a lot of the time hunger is mostly in the mouth. I mean, let’s be honest, breath gets stale!! And our mouths get bored. So I try to have a strong Altoid or sour lifesaver or something to satisfy my palate plus something to drink. That said, everyone is different!

    Hope that helps,

    Kath

Kath, how do you store the smoked salmon after you open the package? I always feel like it gets somewhat yucky if I keep it in a plastic bag.
    Thank you!

i am totally the same way with the hunger thing. i eat breakfast at 6 and by the time i get to work at 9, my stomach is GROWLING!! however, if i wait it out about 30 minutes, I’m totally fine for the next 3 hours or so. Stomachs are crazy sometimes.

Where do you get your smoked salmon from? Can I get any recommendations for finding it at a pretty common supermarket store?

    Thanks

Thanks, Kath! I will try the water trick. Normally, as long at 3.5 to 4 hours have passed, I take it as hunger if not I know it isn’t really hunger.

    Jim ,
i get it from Harris Teeter. I’ve shown the package before in a post if you have some time to search the blog for “smoked salmon” and maybe brand?

I’ve been buyign Laughing Cow a lot lately but never know what to do with it other than unwrap it and pop it in my mouth in two bites. I like the idea of spreading it on something…so creamy!
