Sweet Sweet Saturday

Oh Saturday how much I love thee now!!! I can LIVE again! And by live, I mean PLAY in my house. And by play in my house, I mean CLEAN!! Some people might think the thought of changing all the bedding and towels and doing 3 loads of laundry is a drag, but I was so thankful for an open morning to do it that I was whistling like Mary Poppins!

MaryPoppins

I woke up dreaming of our family at a beach house with waves crashing against it at 6:30. Guess my body clock is adjusting. I read emails and lounged in bed for a while, did my chores and came down to breakfast fit for a queen.

Seriously, this bowl of oats was over-the-top!

IMG_3239 (640x427)

The Mix:

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt, tbsp chia seeds
  • 1/2 banana
  • TONS of pumpkin (I finished off a can – probably about a heaping half a cup)
  • Cinnamon + vanilla
  • Crumbled Banana Almond muffin
  • Maranatha, and a bonus Barney Butter blob when I got to the bottom

IMG_3231 (640x427)

A chicken drumstick today, floating in peppermint creme and pumpkin spice mix (I’m almost finished with this pre-mixed blend and will move on to another half-caf blend 🙂 ) The secret to the froth is 1) Heat your milk in the mug before you pour the coffee in and 2) Pour the coffee very slowly and horizontally from the french press

SAT-UR-DAY:

  • Play house
  • Go to the indoor playground (i.e. gym)
  • A sandwichlicious lunch
  • Shopping with Matt
  • Dinner date

I love Saturdays 🙂 And I also love how you refer to the gym as an indoor playground! It makes it so much more fun. I mean who doesn’t want to go play for an hour or two!

Have fun on your dinner date 😉

Hey – a clean house and getting things checked off the list is rewarding to me, too! Feels good.

Those oats look yummy. I usually have a 1/2 cup of pumpkin in mine normally – I lurve pumpkin oats.

I think the picture in your coffee looks like a bike seat.

We have a Keurig and put the milk in first so the coffee steams it as it brews…so good. Makes it taste sweeter. That bowl of oats is way over the line…but it is Saturday and there is no better way to start Saturday! Enjoy your day!

Oh Kath, I do sympathise with your shocker of a working week- two years ago I was doing a two hour commute across London, a year ago I began working in a hospital doing crazy hours- 14 hour days/ 5.30am starts/night shifts which I just about got the hang of- and now I’ve gone to graduate Medical school, which over here in the U.K. means 2 years packed into 1- now my brain is overloaded, and my body underworked. I really understand what you mean about all the changes, I wish I could adjust more quickly!… just remembered a naughty but nice addition to oatmeal, I’m not sure if you’ve done it before, in England you can buy little ‘Easter’ eggs- like caramel, praline filled ones (like Cadburys Creme eggs?), how about pushing them deep down into an oatmeal bowl, so that the warmth melts them down, and you discover them halfway down- I bet you could do it with Reece’s cups, Lindor truffles or M&Ms? Enjoy your commute free weekend and sorry about the long comment! 😉

How are you doing with exercise & your strained hamstring? I have one as well and have taken 5 days off of exercise and It’s killing me…I noticed you had gone on the stairmaster though. Do you think that me going on my ET would bother my hamstring at all?

It’s doing fine when I exercise – but it’s not doing well when I lift things. I gotta stop doing housework! I’m not sure if it’s a muscle or what because I can’t really massage it. Maybe some kind of connector?

The oats look delish — and seriously there is something so therapeutic about cleaning sometimes…SOMETIMES. haha However, even if cleaning can be a pain in the butt, nothing is more satisfying than looking around a clean looking and clean smelling house/apartment/room. and I agree with Mandy — indoor play ground sounds so much better with gym. There’s such a sense of accomplishment in getting your house all cleaned for the weekend. You get all your chores done and then you get to enjoy a nice clean and tidy house for the rest of the weekend. I don’t necessarily enjoy the act of cleaning, but I always enjoy the results – and that’s what usually motivates me.
