Stoplight Salad

As you might imagine after today’s sample extravaganza , I wasn’t terribly hungry for dinner. But the fresh veggies looked mighty tasty, so packed up a big salad to take to class. I put lettuce , cuc and Woodstock dressing in one container and sauteed yellow squash, green pepper, tomatoes, carrots and beans (most from CSA) in another. And mixed them together on campus while I studied.

Nectarine on the side, which I didn’t have time to eat (and was too full of veggies) so I had it during our 7:30 break.

Four hours later I was home and hungry and had a bowl of Cinnabon cereal . While I’m not crazy about cereal for breakfast to hold me over many hours, I love it for a snack.

I just slammed my hand down on the counter and think I strained my tendonitis-prone thumb tendon! Hope it’s OK in the morning…

Granola planks online!!! Just found out that Honest Foods just opened an online store where you can buy granola planks and the bars: Honest Foods Store . And shipping is included!! I found the bars at EarthFare today but didn’t see the planks (I may need to look harder) so I’ll be ordering some blueberry vanilla ones soon when my last bit runs out.

I’m SO tired – it’s been a long day. Off to bed.

It happens to cut my fingers every time I have people coming over. That’s what happened yesterday, too. i hope your tendon will be better in the morning.

    Hi,

this comment might make my family sound completely nuts.. but for easter this year, my mom forgot to buy little candies to put in the easter eggs, so she put this cereal in it and all my little cousins loved it! hahah

I feel the same way about cereal.. it never fills me up either. For cereal as a healthy snack, should I look to find a low calorie or just a good nutritional value dispite if the calorie count is higher ?

Could you post the nutritional information for the granola planks … I don’t see it on their website. Thanks (calories, fat, fiber)

    Hey guys

so this is completley random but i was wondering if any of you guys eat a whole lot during the few days/week before as well as during your period? I am on my period right now and i have been eating like a madwoman! It is really hard for me to control these cravings so i usually just give in. What about the rest of you – do you guys have a way to stop yourself or do you just give in too?

    Thanks!

    Hey Mia,

I totally know what you mean! I am PMSing right now (I’m a bit late) and have been having the worst sweet tooth ever, and tonight I over-indulged to the point where I now feel slightly sick =\ ugh. TOM always seems to screw up the good streak I have been having with eating healthy/working out. I have yet to have had a month in awhile where I can get through that week of my period and still stay somewhat on track with my diet/fitness goals! ugh!

I don’t have many answers – just saying I know where you are coming from. I’m thinking all it takes is just some extra willpower, to turn down that slice of cake and go for a walk. whenever I do so I always feel 100X times better than when I eat the cake – but then it’s so hard to remember that when I just want to totally dig in the next month/whenever!!

    hang in there! 😛

    KrisT ,
Pick whatever fits best into you day. I generally don’t choose cereals with more than 150 kcal per cup because I don’t think they are worth it. When I snack I usually have around a cup – plus milk – makes a perfect portion snack for me.

    SmilynStef ,
On their website, click on the box pictures:

    Heather ,
No Whole Foods within 100 mi 😥

    Kate ,
Swear I’m not – just have a new product I like a lot (just like hemp milk, LaraBars, TJ’s trail mix..)

    Mia ,
Yup, I usually get insatiable hunger one day during PMS – I find the cure is to eat a real meal with lots of volume. Snacking never satisfies it.

When I get wicked pms’y and crave anything edible in sight, I usually get something thats *really* good and go with that as a treat. Maybe a chocolate icecream sundae from a fave icecream store, or two peices of the best godiva chocolate.

If its something that I’m really craving and really wanting, I can satisfy it with one thing.

If cravings pop up again, I go for a walk or a run. It helps get my mind off it and also helps with the cramping/bloating. Double bonus. 😀

Thanks for posting about the Honest Foods Store, when I searched the site for store location, none are near me 🙁 I am going to buy the variety pack, I can’t wait to get them.

I have a hollow leg before my period. its actually a good indicator of when its coming for me, because i dont really keep track. i can tell its coming when i just cant get satisfied, food-wise.

They’ve done a study that shows your body actually cranks up calorie expenditure a bit the week before, so the reason you feel hungrier is b/c you actually need more fuel.

So if you’re maintaining weight, go ahead and eat a little more to not be hungry. If you’re trying to lose, I guess you can wait out the hunger and take advantage of the extra calorie deficit.
