Still Believing In Magic

I had another round of insomnia last night 🙁 I feel like I did everything right: warm bath with lavender bubbles, dim lights, reading in bed for 45 minutes. I wasn’t sleepy at all. Maybe it’s hormonal? Or just an off body clock from New Year’s. So this time I came back downstairs and caught up on my blog reading 🙂 Around 11:30 I did get sleepy and then all was OK.

Upon waking around 8 this morning I did a 25-minute session of Power Yoga #3. This one was for beginners and it was VERY basic. Almost too slow for me, but very helpful with pose positioning. I do like the sun salutation flows 🙂

I am still believing in magic. My oatmeal photos were waiting for me on my desktop when I finished breakfast! This also means one less program to open (I used to use Windows Live Photo Gallery to import). Loving my new Eye-Fi!! Did you know they also make a card that sends photos straight to your internet photo site like Flicr or Facebook!?

I think my insomnia could be coffee related. Just like last spring, coffee is suddenly unappealing, and maybe that’s a sign? So today I had Coconut Chai Tea that my mom found for me at World Market.

Pumpkin Butterscotch Flax Oats

  • 1/3 cup oats, milk, water, pinch salt, (left out the banana today to make them stretch the rest of the week. The oats were noticeably less sweet, but still good with the pumpkin butter.
  • 1 tbsp raisins
  • 2 tbsp wheatberries
  • 1/3 cup pumpkin
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin butter
  • 1/2 Honey Graham Z-bar
  • Coconut butter flakes
  • About 10 butterscotch chips
  • Spoonful Smucker’s Natural
  • 1/2 tbsp ground flax on top

Loving my new wide angle lens too!! This shot was so easy 🙂

IMG_0063

I’m having a second cup of tea while I blog. I wouldn’t have taken this extra photo except it was so easy!!!

A little bird told me that ZestyCook is holding a giveaway today!! A book on photography technique. I’d love to win and learn how to make this new camera shine!

Fundamentals of Photography Book Review and GIVEAWAY!

I actually have loads to do today. One of the reasons I can’t sleep might be anxiety of these last few days of vacation before I am slammed with Biochemistry, Food Science, Clinical Nutrition, Foodservice Equipment, and Developmental Psychology…. yikes!!!!!!!

Off to work on this to-do list…

I have to do more research on this Eye-Fi. Sounds like a definite time saver, which I’m all about these days.

I hate losing sleep. It makes every thing out of wack. Have you tried Melaton? I get my sleep patterns all messed up from travel and have found that it works pretty well for the unsleepies as well as jet lag.

If you get the chance, try the Chocolate Chai Zhena’s Gypsy Tea, its also very yummy.

Those pictures are amazing! I swear I could smell that tea! But I was LOL at the ‘exquisite warming spices’! What are those? Cayenne pepper?
A serious question though…may I ask why you always have a spoonful of peanut (or some kind of nut) butter? Is it for the protein? Or just for the taste? And do you stir it in or just lick the spoon? Ok I guess that’s two questions!

Anyway, I’m so glad the new camera is working for you. Don’t WORRY about the new semester, okay? Thinking about all of it at once is going to stress you out. Just remember, you have control of each and every day, none of them will pass you by!

I got a new Canon Elph for Christmas, too, and yes, they are fairly reasonably priced in my opinion…less than $250, I think. I love it! My husband has a big SLR but we wanted a pont-and-shoot for the convenience of carrying it everywhere. Love it!!

I’d like your opinion Kath, or anyone elses because I’m not sure exactly what to do. I’m a junior in college and about to start school again monday. I have classes from 8am-2pm every day and then I go to work right after school until around 6pm. Right now, with no school, I usually jog/walk on the treadmill 3-5 days a week for 35 mins and do strength exercises, exercises with hand weights, pilates, etc. most days for atleast 35 mins. Once school starts, I won’t have all this time to exercise. What is the best way to get the most out of the limited time I have to exercise? I was thinking I am going to get up 30 mins earlier than usual to fit exercise time in the mornings. I was planning on doing 30 mins on the treadmill in the mornings and then maybe 2 or 3 days out of the week i’ll do strength exercises for 30 minutes at night. Is this the best plan or what would anyone recommend? By the way, I don’t have a membership to a gym and i’m trying to maintain my weight, not lose. Thanks!

    Kath,

You’d think that 5 AM would be a great time, except the gym doesn’t open until 6 AM and even then it’s really full! I don’t really have another time I could go consistently except for the wee hours of the morning. I’m not much of a runner, which is why I typically avoid outdoor running.

So, you have to have coffee one more day Kath! I want to see what the chandelier coffee looks like with your new camera? I noticed when you took the pictures of the plate you couldn’t see light reflections in the one with the new cam and you could with the old so I want to see if you still get the chandelier in the coffee.

    Hi Kath,
This is my first time posting on your blog. I’m an RD, and I actually recommend your blog to some of the employees that I work with (I work in corporate wellness/wt mgt) — for great ideas on meals. It helps for them to see ideas in “living color” that there are so many different combos out there in the land of healthy eating. Thanks for the great site. I had a great friend who was almost placed at your college for her internship! I’m glad to see you are taking a psych course– very much needed in this field. Later!

    fitforfree ,
I think it’s more for behavioral changes.

    Rose ,
It’s $246 at Amazon, which I found to be very affordable compared to the SLR’s.

    MaryB ,
PB is for the taste! Although I’m sure the extra healthy fat is helpful in satiety.

    Stephanie ,
Thanks for the pep talk 🙂

    Betsy in Pgh,
oh, I’ve had it before so I didn’t think to include a review, but it’s amazing!! Almost chewable.

    Jessica ,
I think your plan for cardio + weights sounds great. You know what I recommend: first thing in the AM! Get up at 5 if you have it. Exercise is a priority.

    Ally ,
Hahah – I’ll try to remember to do a chandelier soon!

    Monique ,
    Thanks!

    Victoria ,
Yes, there was milk in the first one but not the other two. They get too weak to use milk so I just treat it more like water on the second and third cups.

    Tamara ,
    Thanks so much!

I love this bowl of oats today.

I’ve had a lot of problems sleeping in my day, usually caused by worrying and stress. I’ve learned that I need to just give into it. I mean I can’t obsess or think about it too much. If I sit/lay there and say, “I’m never going to sleep. I’m going to be so tired,” etc. it just makes it worse. Maybe you’re trying too hard?

I haven’t slept well all week! It’s weird, because I’m tired all day long and then can’t sleep when I finally get into bed.
I would buy that tea for the canister alone, even though I hate coconut.
