Some Things Never Change

IMG_9098-2Blog

G’evening it was! Summery warm with not too many bugs.

This afternoon was spent on the porch, working and snacking. I pulled a Hungry Bar out from my freezer!

IMG_9097-2Blog

At 6:30, we hopped on the bikes (still glad to be biking again, still nervous about it) and biked over to Faith + Tate’s for dinner!

IMG_9104-2Blog

We had a glorious time and talked way past our bedtimes. Reminded me of the first time Faith invited us over for pumpkin soup in the blog comments!

Two years ago:

Tonight:

Not much has changed! (Except a lot less vino drinking lately…)

I sipped sparkling water with lime and mint instead

IMG_9099-2Blog

These guys are the craftiest and handiest friends I know. They build anything! From the deck a few photos up to endless edible gardens to surfboard chairs!

Our whole salad came from the garden!

IMG_9105-3Blog

Faith made black bean corn tacos for dinner, with one of her famous salads.

Piled high with veggies, a lively salsa, greek yogurt and cheese

After the sun set, Faith snuck inside and whipped up some banana soft serve a la Gena’s recipe topped with melted coconut butter magic shell. Heavenly!

    Hi Kath,

Please really think about biking while pregnant. My cousin’s cousin lost her baby as a result of a bike accident in London. It was awful. Probably nothing would happen to you, but in my opinion it’s not worth the risk.

Oh how awful 🙁 I’m trying to be super careful and only biking when I really can’t walk

One of my all time favorite things is foraging the garden and coming up with the bulk of a meal! Faith’s salad looks fantastic. And the tacos…I would eat them any time of day if I could 😉 Good for you — looks like a blast!!

I agree with the other comment, I would think twice before biking while you are pregnant. No matter how careful you are, accidents can happen. It only takes one bad fall for something really bad to happen to the baby or yourself. When you are pregnant your balance is different and falls are more likely. Although it is tempting, I would not take the risk!

I [kind-of] understand the concern, but Claire and Emily’s comments just further the misconception the bicycling is a dangerous activity, or more dangerous than other things that most of us do every day (e.g., getting in a car and driving somewhere) without thinking about it.

For some positive inspiration, check out Simply Bike’s “Cycling While Pregnant” series: http://simplybikeblog.com/?page_id=6293

Biking, while pregnant or not, is a safe, fun, and convenient way to get around. As you get farther in your pregnancy and walking becomes less comfortable, you’ll enjoy the bike even more.

I am on ob-gyn and always tell my patients no bike riding. I would ask your ob or midwife before I would go on the advice of a blog.

Mine said it was OK and that the risk was other cars, so that’s what I’m being most careful about
