Snowga

MATT HAS A SNOW DAY!! He had his alarm set for 2:40AM and just got the call that they are closing the bakery for snow + ice. Now we can spend the night together! The Office, 30 Rock, Conan!

I got home a little early today

 this !

I ate my pear in the car and then wanted a snack around 4:00 before yoga. I think it’s the hungry two weeks of the month!

I didn’t know what to have for snack and mindlessly nibbled my way through a few bites of things trying to decide! Not the smartest behavior 🙂

First I had a bite of a week-old hunk of Flax Oat Bran. LOVE this bread even a week old!

IMG_4567 (640x427)

Then I taste-tested the trail mix Matt brought home from grocery shopping

IMG_4568 (427x640)

Then I also taste tested the Trader Joe’s peanut butter that we just restocked ON a hunk of Flax Oat bran! That did the trick!

IMG_4571 (640x427)

Kept me full till 7:30 after yoga.

THEN IT STARTED TO SNOW!!!!!!!!!!! I was in a hurry to get to yoga so I didn’t snap a photo, but my gosh it was exciting!! Tonight’s workout was snowga.

Y2Yoga was awesome as usual. I met Emily for the 5:30 hot vinyasa class with Tanner. The class was great. I consider it a great class if I’m tired at the end and my limbs feel a bit HOLLOW. Like those baby dolls that are filled water? Water babies? That’s how I feel after a good class! Tanner often plays Jim Gaffigan clips during our final long-hold poses. Tonight he played this one about religion that had me CRACKING UP! [If you are easily offended please do not listen!] Tanner also played this awesome mash-up by DJ Earworm that yours truly sent him after hearing about it on Jenna‘s blog last week. LOVE this song!!

Came home and made this totally awesome dinner of SUPERFOODS!!!

IMG_4586 (640x427)

I call this an Insta-Mexican bowl:

  • 1/2 a cup of black beans tossed in cumin and turmeric
  • 1 heaping tbsp pickled jalapenos
  • 3-4 glugs of Cholula
  • ~1/4 a cup of Mexican blend cheese

= all melted together

Topped with avocado, cilantro and greek yogurt!

IMG_4590 (640x427)

It was awesome!!!!!!!!!

IMG_4591 (640x427)

A pile of butter-sauteed kale. WOW – butter + kale are a match made in heaven. [Matt cooked this before I got home]

IMG_4592 (640x427)

And a cinnamony sweet potato half. No comment on the position it’s in!

IMG_4593 (640x427)

I had a little POM in a wine glass to sip in lieu of the real stuff. Love my antioxidant mocktails.

IMG_4577 (640x427)

So many nutrients!

IMG_4575 (640x427)

I hope to wake up to a blanket of white for sledding….but I have a feeling since it was 60 degrees just yesterday that it’s going to be slush. And hopefully not ice!

Nite!!

Yumm on the dinner!!! That bowl is such a great idea. You never cease to amaze me at your creativity in the kitchen.

And so cool about the snow! I live in Spartanburg, SC and it started snowing around 3 today and hasn’t stopped yet. This is pretty big for here! I’m hoping that it sticks to snowing and no ice. Don’t want the power to go off, which usually happens when we have ice.

Girl, keep that snow up there! I don’t think it’s supposed to snow here… Just rain and coldness… My sister goes to NC State and she said it was already snowing up that way. Sounds like tomorrow would be a good morning for oats! Stay warm!!! 🙂

I really appreciated your Breathe article. It came at the perfect time! I’ve definitely noticed the same thing in my eating behaviors – being ravenous just before and sometimes during that time of the month and a slight weight gain. These last few days I’ve felt pretty bad about it, but your article reminded me that I’m not crazy and it is biological and to just stay in tune with what my body needs. Thanks for the lift!

It isn’t snowing here (yet), but it’s freezing cold! I stepped out of Wegmans about an hour ago and—brrrr! How long does GH bread usually last before it becomes stale? I bought a loaf last week and I have about 1/4 of it left (single-handedly polished off 3/4, hehe).

Your dinner looks so colorful and delicious! Especially with the Mexican cheese. We have half a bag of that left from TJ’s… looks like I need some melty cheese + avocado action tomorrow 😀

    *Question for Everyone*
I have heard a lot about GNU BARS lately – any comments?
I looked all over and I couldn’t find anywhere that ships to Canada and I really want to try them 🙁 Any Canadians happen to have tried them and know of anywhere they are sold here?
