Smelly Run

I’m behind schedule, but trucking along.

I got up at 6:30 and did 20 minutes of Yoga For Runners. I thought it would be better as a warm up than a cool down, and I was right. It was energizing for my run! So was watching Angela’s latest running form posts. I tried to focus on kicking butt!

I set out on a sunrise 4 miles around my neighborhoods that was filled with smells! (You guys know I have a supersmeller nose!) I smelled:

  • Laundry detergent
  • Bacon
  • Refried beans (??)
  • Channel Allure (that was me!!)
  • Honeysuckle
  • Grass

My run was a good one. Stats:

  • Total: 4.4 miles, 38:00 mins
  • Mile 1: 8:52
  • Mile 2: 8:33
  • Mile 3: 8:53 (including a jog in place to cross the street)
  • Mile 4: 8:35

After a shower, I made a big bowl to carry me through the morning and my exam:

IMG_5297 (1024x768)

The keys for satiety for me are:

  1. High Fiber
  2. High Protein
  3. High Fat
  4. High Volume

ALL TOGETHER. One or the other won’t do much, 2 at a time is better, but all 4 is key. This bowl had all 4 🙂

The mix:

  • 1 carton Better Whey of Life (protein + volume)
  • 1/2 banana (volume + fiber)
  • 3 strawberries (volume + fiber)
  • 1/3 cup blackberries (volume + fiber)
  • 1 tbsp flax (fiber + fat + some protein)
  • 2 tbsp wheatberries (fiber + some protein)
  • 1/3 cup Uncle Sams (fiber + protein)
  • 1 tbsp almonds (fat + protein)
  • Spoonful Naturally More (fat + deliciousness)

FYI: About 500 calories. Lots of the rest.

IMG_5296 (1024x768)

Had a half cup of coffee to not throw off my day –

See y’all when 1 is down!

    Hi Kath!
Your backyard looks like such a relaxing place for breakfast, I wish I had a yard!
About your morning workouts- I have heard time and time again that we are supposed to eat breakfast first thing upon waking up, before working out. I think the reason is because if you don’t, it supposedly slows your metabolism. I see you workout first before eating, what do you know that I don’t?
    Thanks!

    Wow Kath, great run!
Your yoga mess is all crazy kinds of awesomeness. Do you keep a piece of paper in the kitchen while you’re making your mixes so you can write down everything you put in them?! Haha. I find that I do that because sometimes I just can’t remember every component!
Hope you have a great Wednesday, and good luck!

By the way, hop on over to my site today and add your favorite recipe! I bet you have some great ones:) I’m trying to build some awareness even though mine is only in the beginning stages!

Thanks for all the luck guys!!

    Emily,
Your breakfast rumors are mostly a way to keep people from skipping breakfast. In terms of exercise, you only NEED a pre-workout snack if you are going to be exercising for over 60-90 minutes intensely. Otherwise, only eat one if you want one. I find I wake up “hungry” but it’s really just thirst. I drink a glass of water and am fine for a morning workout and then have breakfast right after.

    Lara (Thinspired),
My photos usually help me remember 🙂

    bobbi ,
Can you ask me again when finals over? Then I’ll have time to do lots of things!

Your oatmeal looks delicious! I’ve been trying to eat more intuitively lately – breakfast, lunch, dinner with a few snacks when I need them. Balanced meals. But I still always think in Weight Watcher terms when I look at food. I know it’s not the amount of “points” that matters, but the quality of the food and how long it’ll fill you up, so I was surprised to see your breakfast was roughly 500 calories. I would love to try it, but I’m not sure if my head would let me! LOL!

However, you are inspiring me to try new oatmeal mixes, that’s for sure.

In response to eating before a workout, I always eat something really light, like half of a Lara bar. I’m not a morning person, but get up to run. I find I have more energy if I get *something* in me.

Good luck with the rest of your exams!

    Kristilyn (The Food Journey),
It is a lot of calories for breakfast, but after a hard workout and to fill you up for 4-5 hours, and as 1/3 of your daily calories, it goes a long way. You’d probably be surprised how much less hungry you will be mid-morning.
