Shifting Shifts

FoodBlogIMG_2257

We are a bit short-staffed this week due to vacations, so I picked up a few shifts at the bakery on our busiest days. Fridays are always wild!

FoodBlogIMG_2259

They are also Red, White + Blueberry Swirl day!!

FoodBlogIMG_2254

Although I have to say that I didn’t snack on anything sweet all morning. It’s so easy for me not to snack between breakfast and lunch but much, much harder to do so between lunch and dinner.

FoodBlogIMG_2253

FYI, we’re opening an e-commerce section of our website in the coming weeks so we can sell Cville Cluster directly and regularly (among a few of our other mixes). I know some of you will be very excited to hear that!

FoodBlogIMG_2256

My workout today was supposed to be walking to and from, but it was pouring when I had to get there so I was forced to drive 🙁 However, 3.5 hours on my feet helping customers was not a piece of cake.

I finally sat down and enjoyed lunch with the boss at 1 O’clock

FoodBlogIMG_2266FoodBlogIMG_2261

He made us tomato + cheddar sandwiches with big slices of lettuce

FoodBlogIMG_2263

AMAZING Route 11 chips!! These are just so perfectly crunchy I cannot resist!

FoodBlogIMG_2264

And we shared an apple. I really miss apples but don’t buy them in the summer because they aren’t as good as the summer fruits. I have no idea what part of the country these are from, but it was one delicious apple.

FoodBlogIMG_2260

Just got home and am happy to be off my feet for a while. Working on building a KathEats Facebook page – I feel old that I’m so behind the times. I have no idea what I’ll use it for, but I’ve been told I need one!

I also tend to not eat apples in the summer– I miss them but they taste SO much better when in season!

I felt so behind because I had everything else going – Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest… no Tumblr I guess but I don’t really feel I need that right now. Can’t wait to see your new page. I’ll be Liking for sure! 🙂

lol on your FB page. I didn’t build one til maybe 15 months ago? Not years and years or anything. I really don’t “do” anything with it either but I do have my feed set up to be pushed out to it and people write to me telling me they “read it on my FB page” so I guess it’s helpful for some.

I do not want to speak negatively about other Great Harvest locations….but I wish my GH had more to offer. Again, not to be totally negative because at my GH the bread is amazing and the staff is so friendly, but it just appears to me that you guys offer such a wide selection of breads and treats, whereas my GH offers less than half of what the C’Ville GH appears to offer. To end on a high note, your bakery looks lovely, so inviting. 🙂

It’s the best and worst part about each location being completely locally owned – sometimes owners just don’t offer as much, change their menu, get involved, etc.

Hey Kath! Does your e-commerce site ship to Canada? Everytime I see a bowl of your C-Ville Cluster I drool … I understand there are certain regulations when it comes to shipping food stuffs into Canada (which is why I can’t get any wild squirrel butter! grrr!), so if this is not an option I understand 🙁 But please definitely let me know, because if it is an option i’m going to be all over that…

So nice to have met you today Kath (I’m the one who stopped by from DC). Oh my goodness, your cookies are so delicious! I am always on the lookout for a great chocolate chip cookie, and your bakery’s is without a doubt one of the very best ones I have ever had. I can’t say enough about how good it was. I’m so glad I bought another one for my boyfriend, as I think sharing might have proven difficult! Looking forward to trying the red white and blue scuffin tomorrow morning!

I keep trying to get myself to buy apples because I love them but then I’m drawn into bags of cherries and grapes and decide the apples just aren’t happening this week. And then the cycle continues. I’ll get them back in my life in the fall. 😉

Oh, and as far as Facebook, I’ve never had a page (don’t plan to either) and hardly ever even looked at it, so I didn’t even know KERF didn’t have one. Ha! I don’t really care for any of the social media sites because I don’t want to use any of my time in the day for them. I know would probably end up sucked into them too many hours a day, so I decided to never even get started 😉

Your store looks amazing! Very cozy and inviting. I’d have a hard time resisting all those sweets and breads. I’m from Washington state so I like to think I know a good apple when I see one (perhaps your’s was from WA!). Anyway, I’m a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco and the apples are definitely not up to snuff here, especially as you said in comparison to all the delicious summer fruit!

I have having to buy apples that come from Chile and New Zealand in the summers, but I love them too much to not eat them! I can’t wait until they’re available locally in the fall. But I hear they’re going to be pretty pricey here this year because apparently a lot of Ontario’s orchards were ruined by frost this spring. 🙁
