Sensational Sunday

I’ve had a really great day!!! We got SO MUCH accomplished – from a nursery facelift, to lots of cleaning, to a front porch curb appeal mini-makeover [with plants and junk removed], to Lowes for a super-fun purchase, to an awesome al fresco dinner! It was go, go, go, but in a really good way. I’m beat!!

Afternoon snacks:

IMG_7360Blog

After dropping off the groceries, I ran to Sara’s to say hello and pick up some mail. When I returned, I found this romantic table set for two!

IMG_7362Blog

Matt grilled BBQ chicken and zucchini and served ‘em with a hot buttered Virginia roll

IMG_7364Blog

Bone Suckin’ Sauce was the base for this BBQ flavor. Matt marinated the chicken (briefly) then grilled it and reduced the sauce into a thick syrup for optimal flavor.

IMG_7367Blog

Veggies at 2 meals today – and no evening nausea (and no meds!) I think today must be a turning point. [KNOCKONWOOD]

IMG_7368Blog

We listened to Norah Jones on Pandora by a lavender candle that Sara gave me! I may have worn two fleeces, but it was great to eat outdoors as the sun set!

IMG_7363Blog

While at Lowes today, I was suckered into supporting the Girl Scouts. I like to buy a box each year for each of us to make a scout happy for a sale. She likes mint, he likes PB. I’ll probably stick these in the freezer and eat them one-by-one for months! Not healthy, but nostalgic.

IMG_7369Blog

I have boatloads of reading to do in my freshly washed sheets tonight. And I can’t stop peeking into the nursery to check out our new art!! 🙂

Hope you all have great starts to your week tomorrow!

And there is the difference between your self control and mine! No way those cookies would last MONTHS in my house. I’m not sure they would even last hours! And, the freezer is no deterrent. Frozen Thin Mints are amazing!! I’m a teacher, and every year I buy one box from every girl in my class. Luckily, there is an option where you can donate your box to a soldier. It has saved me many calories!!!

I am all for everything in moderation.. but I have to say I’m a little disappointed in the Girl Scout cookies. I want to fully support such a great organization, but it is time they change their product. Not only do the cookies contain palm oil (completely unnecessary and #1 contributor to deforestation in Southeast Asia) but even more, have you looked at the ingredient list? I can’t think of something much farther from real food.

I don’t mean to be a downer, I just think that if leaders with the influence like you have took a stand, it could actually make a difference. Awareness is everything, and this blog is about real food.. so what better way to send a message to others and to the manufacturers of these cookies than to support girl scouts in other ways but refuse to support this product?

I’d love to hear others’ thoughts.

      Melissa,
you bring up a good point. I think it’s important for people to support GIrl Scouts in ways that are meaningful to them, as opposed to not supporting them at all. And the ingredients are terrible, but as we know, most of America isn’t educated about the food products we so readily consume. Kath does have the perfect opportunity on her blog, to not only educate what makes GS cookies “bad” but also show that there are other ways to support this fantastic organization.

Those are the two flavors I buy every year, and the thin mints def go in the freezer for one-by-one snacking. I managed to avoid the siren call of the GS cookies this year, though – was holding out for my little cousin to offer again, and she didn’t. My trying-not-to-expand waistline is not too sad about it, but my mouth misses the craveable taste a bit!
