Awake

IMG_7379Blog

I’m awake. This time on my own will.

IMG_7380Blog

Last night I had another round of insomnia. I was awake from 3-something to nearly 6am. When Matt’s alarm went off I finally went back to sleep for an hour and a half. I was wide awake and went through the list of things that could be keeping me up: temperature, going to the bathroom, thirst, and finally ate a snack (cereal + milk) because my stomach was growling! Maybe that was it because it was my last defense, although I still stayed up reading blogs for another 30 minutes afterwards. Really hoping this phase doesn’t last!

IMG_7373Blog

Breakfast was a Strawberry Banana Smoothie made with half a banana, a cup of milk, 5 strawberries, 5 ice cubes. There were more sunken strawberries and a topping of honey bunches and peanut butter.

Awake tea I brought back from our Towson hotel

Just finished accepting an awesome delivery!! More details later, but I have lots of work to do! [And my favorite Pump class to miss 🙁 ]

There is something particularly cruel about pregnancy related insomnia. It’s almost like G-d’s cruel preparation for your new life as a mom. I call shenanigans! LET US SLEEP!

Ooh, I love Tazo tea! Not sure if I’ve tried the Awake one, but Calm and Zen are amazing. I hope your insomnia goes away; lying in bed and not being able to sleep is one of the most frustrating things, and a vicious cycle 🙁

I just went through a stage of waking up EVERY night between 2-3am STARVING because of increased training. I finally had to start thinking about a bedtime snack if I was even just a little tiny bit hungry when I went to bed because the insomnia was driving me nuts! This has actually worked really well (knockonwood). Hope yours does not last very long!

I’m excited to hear about whatever was delivered! As for insomnia, I can feel your pain – not because I know what pregnancy is like, but lately my mind has been so active during the night that I’ve woken up a few times and can’t get back to sleep because I keep thinking! Sometimes I find putting on instrumental or calm music helps (hello, John Mayer!). I know someone who has been trying a homeopathic remedy for insomnia – basically just a small sugar pill that you dissolve under your tongue shortly before bed. I’m assuming that it helps to trigger melatonin, but am not 100% sure. Just thought I’d mention it in case you really can’t stand the lack of sleep any more!

Do you think that the insomnia is from the after effects of the Unisom? Just wondering. If so, I am sure that it will wear off.

That’s miserable when you just can’t sleep. Maybe the baby doesn’t like springing forward? I was so paranoid I was going to oversleep that I didn’t sleep well for the last 3-4 hours of the night.

I had insomnia due to hunger during my second trimester (well, not really insomnia, as I’d go back to sleep after eating something), and restless leg syndrome (and probably restless baby poking at my insides) during the third trimester.

I’ve heard that the blue-ish back light from tvs, computers and phones can mess with the sleep signals in your brain. “They” recommend reading a book if you’re up in the middle of the night instead. Maybe try that next time? Although I hope there isn’t a next time!

I totally feel you on the insomnia phase…I’m not pregnant and the past couple weeks I’ve been waking up around 3 or 4am needing to pee, having a headache AND being super dehydrated. Then when my alarm actually goes off, it’s like pulling teeth to get me awake. SO weird!
