Upgrade!

Something is missing…

2012-03-12 09.24.04Blog

[I’m still mad about the damage the porch painters did to our cork floors! The replacement tiles are not sun worn or showing any signs of color change..]

Relocation…

2012-03-12 09.25.55Blog

And in its place…

2012-03-12 12.02.12Blog

A new bond was formed!!!!!!!!! My life-long dream is to have a fridge-top, freezer-bottom appliance. Just like the Barefoot Contessa. We were partially spoiled at our last house when we had a french door fridge and I learned how wonderful it was to see my food at eye level. So when Matt and I bought this house, we set up a side savings allotment to save for a new fridge + stove [stove = need because our current one is as basic as they come; fridge = pure want].

This month we reached our goal and cashed in! This Samsung Stainless Energystar was actually $500 cheaper than we saved – including 10% off at Lowes this week on all major appliances! Hint: the stove is coming later!

2012-03-12 12.02.44Blog

Our previous fridge was nice, but still the old-fashioned style. At the moment it is a beer fridge, but we might Craigslist it…the brewer is still deciding what his dream brewery is. Is we do sell it, even more $ saved!

I spent a while this morning arranging food, cleaning shelves (new and old fridge gunk), and removing stickers. GAH why are stickers so annoying in 2012 when there are so many cool stickers out there!? Luckily my Scour Off takes them off well.

2012-03-12 09.55.44Blog

I worked on house stuff for a while and then sat down to do blog stuff for a while and it was 1pm and I wasn’t hungry, but I was getting nausea. I’m not one to forget to eat, but pregnancy is throwing me a twist.

Luckily I found some good eats IN OUR FRIDGE (!) and felt better after lunch on the porch.

IMG_7382Blog

I made an egg, cheese + jalapeno sammie

IMG_7388BlogIMG_7385Blog

With pear on the side

IMG_7384Blog

And a pile of salty almonds. Love these.

IMG_7390Blog

Honestly, tea to drink.

IMG_7389Blog

2.5 hours later, and I’m already thinking about a snack!

Back to the fridge..

Oooh, your new fridge is beautiful! That’s so exciting! Stickers really are such a pain, though, I hate having to scrape that annoying adhesive off. I love salty almonds, too – I try to stick to raw for the most part, but my great aunt tends to give me salty almonds and I’m always happy to snack on them.

A french door, freezer on the bottom is my dream fridge, too! When we bought our house and were fridge shopping I had my heart set on one but it turned out it wouldn’t fit in the current location. We are going to re-do our kitchen soon and a new layout to fit a french door fridge is a must!

Lovely fridge! Funny too, this morning, I pulled up a Craigslist apartment that we might look at, and the kitchen picture looks like they have that exact same fridge you just bought (it looked very nice for an apartment kitchen). Organizing food in a new [super clean] fridge would be just my kind of project 🙂

Lucky you! We can’t wait to upgrade to the French doors. The house we just bought has a side-by-side, which totally sucks! We’re happy it’s stainless and has the ice/water dispenser, but the inside is tiny. I could fit so much more in the old standard fridge we had at the condo. It doesn’t help that I have to keep two 12pks of soda and a tray of Gatorade in there for the hubs. If we don’t upgrade before the farmers market season, there won’t be room for all the good stuff!

Congrats on the fridge! We remodeled last year, and I went for two separate units…100% fridge and 100% freezer. I thankful I had the space, because as much as I cook and shop, all 23 cubic feet each are filled! We won’t mention the garage fridge also being pretty stocked too. 😉

Can’t wait to see the stove. It seem like the baby is liking jalapenos!

I’ve always wanted a fridge like that too. Unfortunately, the past two houses have had stainless steel side by sides (which I despise b/c of it’s width restrictions) that are brand new and so I just can’t justify getting rid of a perfectly good fridge and spening mega $ for the one I want. One day…

Your fridge looks great – nice and shiny. So how do you live without an ice crusher (fine and coarse) and without nice icy cool fridge water well filtered. My wife would go into convulsions and pound me to a pulp if I messed with her giant side by side and its source of crushed ice for her smoothies.
Let us know how much fun it is to dig through the freezer after six months. Let the fridge shine on happily ever after…

We have a similar French door fridge, and I absolutely love it! ( had a side-by-side one for a short while and hated it. Made the company switch it out). I am the same way about chilled drinks. I rarely use ice, so the same ice maker in the bottom of ours is no problem. Plus, I have back problems so I love having the refrigerated (most commonly used items) at eye level and within reach. You just don’t open the freezer as much as the fridge!

    hi! Im Kath.

I'm a Registered Dietitian, healthy eater, and mom of two from Charlottesville, Virginia. Here you’ll find a healthy mix of real-life meals made from whole ingredients balanced with the pleasures of life, including buttercream frosting and good wine. Plus a sprinkle of nutrition, home life, beauty, parenting, and travel.
