Salt + Peppa

Had a wonderful time at IKEA!

IMG_0193 (640x480) (2)

Came home with this desk (which I had scouted online!) in a different leg and higher height of course:

IMG_0197 (640x480) (2)

And a handful of other really fun organization things!

IMG_0202 (480x640)

I did not come home with the food storage containers I had wanted because I decided to copy Emily and get some Ball jars to store grains and beans

IMG_7882 (640x427) (2)

The store was so vast I worked up an appetite:

After the trip Emily had me over for a wonderful feast!

Farm-fresh veggies

IMG_7869 (640x427) (2)

Dips – we were quite hungry!

IMG_7871 (640x427) (2)

Yumz!

IMG_7872 (640x427) (2)

Mocktails

IMG_7901 (640x427)

Maters! She made wonderful oven-fried green tomatoes. Go stalk The Front Burner for all the details!!

IMG_7876 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7883 (640x427) (2)

Coconut-scented millet in the rice cooker

IMG_7884 (640x427)

Good ole tofu!

IMG_7887 (640x427)

And a delish mushroom + tomato relish saute to go over it all

IMG_7889 (640x427)

IMG_7879 (640x427) (2)

The whole meal was so fresh – just seasoned with Salt + Peppa!

IMG_7898 (640x427)

Also vegan!

IMG_7900 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7903 (640x427) (2)

IMG_7896 (640x427)

For dessert I tried one of Casey’s latest inventions: THREE-GRAIN CHEWY ENERGY BAR

The secret ingredient was COFFEE and they were AMAZING! Can’t wait to make them!!!

Nite.

Green tomatoes have so many uses. My grandmother used to make what we knew as “chow”, which was basically pickled tomatoes, cauliflower, etc. Sounds weird, tasted amazing. 😀

I’ll have to try giving the fried green tomatoes a try. It sounds delicious! 😀

I started using glass jars to store grains and beans, too! I noticed while watching an episode of the Barefoot Contessa that Ina had beautiful glass jars on her counter filled with lentils, oats, etc. I had to copy it immediately. 🙂

I’m also copying Emily’s Ball jar idea — actually, I’m using any glass jars I get my hands on, including former salsa jars, pickle jars, nut butter jars, etc. I’m trying to save most of my actual Ball jars for canning 🙂

Nothing like a fresh-from-the-farm dinner to end the day right!

Ball jars are great for food storage. I’ve been using them for a while and love the wide mouth jars for smaller quantities. I also store my frozen veggies in them and they work great.
