You are here: Home / Weekend / Run, Baby, Run!

April 5, 2012

Run, Baby, Run!

I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve gone running since finding out I was pregnant. It’s always been more of a mental thing than a physical thing – I just feel that the intensity of running was right for me. And then there was nausea. And now it’s just a touch of laziness. Almost all the reasons I run I can satisfy with a good walk.

But today……I felt like running!! So I fed the baby a date and headed outside to test the waters…

[Wearing 3 layers of tank/bra/shirt!]

Endurance-wise, I did really well. I mean, 2.5 miles is nothing to get overly excited about, but I didn’t have any trouble completing this distance (although I did have a break at Great Harvest in the middle!) And I did walk up the steepest of hills (What’s new, Cville?)

Body-wise, things did feel different. I think the bouncing bothered my bladder more than anything else, but it wasn’t so uncomfortable that I couldn’t keep going. My legs felt great, but my lungs definitely got worked hard. I’ve been hacking since I returned!

Honestly I would run short distances more if I didn’t always want to take my phone and listen to Pregtastic or bring a magazine! But maybe I can add a short run in once a week…at least while it feels OK to do so!

Lunch followed…

A Caraway Rye bun with smashed avocado and melted cheddar

Grapes (aka gnomps)

And a bowl of plain yogurt with Honey Bunches

Does anyone else find caulk to be totally appetizing!?!? It looks just like a delicious buttercream frosting! So soft and fluffy!

IMG_8561Blog

However, I did not eat any for dessert 😉

My heart rate goes super high when I run so I have to mix in some walking to make sure it gets back to 140’ish. I had such a hard time switching and finding the right exercise. Running is definitly tough on the bladder when expecting. That one gets me ever time!!!! …….What have your doctors said about heart rate? I’m just curious to know what other doctors have said.

One of my closest friends has a 6 week old baby, and he just LOVES to be “bopped” or bounced on your knees. She is convinced it is because she ran while pregnant! It sure does tire your arms out quick though. So that can be your excuse as to why you don’t run as much anymore. 😉
