‘Round Town

Foodblog (1 of 4)-2 this !

^^First waterpark visit of the summer! We love ACAC around here, and this year the waterpark is included in family memberships! I went once before when Mazen was younger, but this was our first big summertime visit. We both loved it!

Seven things that were awesome:

  1. There are three pools: a huge lap pool, a kids’ pool with lots of ropes (for kids of different ages to be corralled), and a baby pool that is fenced in with a splash pad;
  2. The waterslides were fun! Big ones for big kids and grown-ups, and a frog slide for the little guys;
  3. Love the gradual entry and tons of low lounge chairs for moms to be up close, and
  4. There is lots of shade from big umbrellas and a picnic pavillion right in the middle of the pools.
  5. There’s a snack bar with reasonably priced offerings like quesadillas and fruit cups (as well as popsicles and beer!).
  6. A huge sandbox and basketball courts round out the fun options, and
  7. They have events like “Dive In” movies, and s’mores and ice cream sundaes for family nights. These events are all FREE with family memberships!

Mazen and I went after our workouts last week and had a blast with our friends. I bought a layered salad at the downtown gym to eat there, and Mazen loved having a slice of pizza and apple for lunch! We can’t wait to spend more time there.

Layers of beets, oranges, sugar snaps, walnuts, chicken, goat cheese and spinach.

For those of you who asked me if I still had friends because they hadn’t been on the blog in a while, YES, I still have friends!! 🙂

We went out to celebrate Gaby’s birthday last week, and met up for drinks on the town.

First, a light dinner of leftover tofu stirfry over salad with kombucha:

Happy birthday Gaby!

I love these ladies who have been my support system and BFFs since our children were newborns:

We ended the night at The Fitzroy, Charlottesville’s newest restaurant and bar. Located in the former Blue Light Grill spot, the renovations were so fun to see! They did a fantastic job, from the black and white floor to the marble counters and open-air front windows. I can’t wait to dine here too!

    Love the pic of you and your FRIENDS. People are so ridiculous. f they can say things like that about a stranger on the internet I can only imagine the mean, judgemental things they say to themselves on a daily basis. Just an internal dialogue of negativity. smh

      I almost wanted to comment,”You’ve been posting a lot of pictures of you and your friends lately…don’t you think you should be spending more time with Mazen?” He he. Wanted to make sure Kath knew I was joking, though! People are so funny with their digital pitchforks.

    Just wondering if ACAC is paying you to advertise for them? I know you have readers who are Charlottesville ACAC members, but I don’t see the purpose of listing the the perks of the water park when it is not an option for the vast majority of us.

        It is so we can be jealous that there’s nothing like this around us! 😉 I love hearing about ACAC because I hope that one day our gyms will get the hint!

    Have you been able to avoid spoilers for Game of Thrones? Every year when a new season pops up I kind of want to rewatch the whole series – it’s so good!

    haha people are crazy. aren’t they?

    Kath that looks so fun! I love the pool and the summer fun that happens with a preschooler. Enjoy!! XOXO and if you ever made a low carb smoothie with all natural ingredients (like you always do! :)) please post! Abbi being a type 1 diabetic makes smoothies hard to find because they are all well over 40 carbs. I am on a mission to come up with a smoothie recipe (that is void of any protein powders, stevia, etc) and have it be 30 carbs or less. (and for the whole recipe to make one smoothie cause we like em big!) haha

    So after all that rambling if you can help come up with a good one, let me know! All that wonderful fruit is fabulous but carbs add up quick for a diabetic. Thanks girl!! No rush and I know you are busy so no worries, but just wanted to ask if you could help me with this challenge. XOXO

      Ooo good challenge! I’m thinking avocado, berries (which are lower in carbs than something like bananas), milk, and peanut butter? A weird mix – would need to taste test!

        ooh yes!! Also almond or cashew milk maybe since cow milk has more carbs. (however thankfully cheese from cow milk has none! yay :))

        Thanks friend!!! and my diabetic girlie says thanks too! Can’t wait to see what you come up with! she is a huge fan of avocados. well who isn’t? haha

          No need to taste test – that’s one of my go to’s … I usually add spinach and use almond milk (less carbs and I can’t have dairy but less protein too). But it will fill you up with the fat and fiber 🙂

    So cool the pool is included with your membership. Wow, that’s pretty weird people would question if you have friends. People must be envious of your lifestyle. That’s why I could never blog. I think I’d dwell too much on all the negativity. I love your adventures and wish you the best!

    My goodness- I wish we had perks like that up here in the Boston area- I have been searching and searching and searching for a pool community to join during my pregnancy (mainly because central AC is a huge rarity in Boston housing too) and I have had such terrible luck- just smelly indoor pools with big expensive memberships, or ghetto inner city pools that are over crowded and dirty and no parking options. Ugh. I wish there were better job opportunities outside of this area for my specialty cuz between the outrageous housing prices and the void of nice community advantages such as you seem to have in C’Ville, and I am HUGELY disenchanted with continuing to live in New England! Enjoy the summer with your son, Kath- looks like it’s going to be a wonderful one. I’m sure you are very thankful for all the blessings you have getting to live there, but if not… you can always come visit us for while haha!

      Tess, have you checked out local YMCA sites? Not sure if those are the ones you’re saying are gross. There’s also this: www.cityofboston.gov/summer/water.asp
      You also have the option of going to the beach – that’s one plus of being in New England, you’re not that far from the ocean. Not sure if it helps or not – hope you can find a way to stay cool!
