Roasty & Toasty

Word!

Our landlords are making quite a bit of changes to the exterior of our bakery –

Storefront before:

GreatHarvestBread (10)

Storefront in progress!

AwningBlog

Totally new awning!

IMG_8581Blog

They are also digging up and improving the side part of the building to make room for more cars. Great news! Also note we have a new window on the side wall since the days when it was just brick!

GreatHarvestBread (11)

And if you’re new – here’s what the space looked like before we started! A t-shirt print shop!

CrazyHorse BeforeCrazyHorseBeforeIIICrazy Horse before

After:

IMG_1117Blog

Today I wiped counters

IMG_8572Blog

And we tried out our breadboard!

IMG_8571Blog

Matt assembled bread racks!

IMG_8576Blog

And somebody filled up my neat store room with ducts!!

IMG_8574Blog

We are making MUCH progress, but still – so much to do in 7 days!!

IMG_8570Blog

I worked up an appetite and needed an Alliebar for a snack.

IMG_8578Blog

Before I headed home around 6PM to put dinner in the oven

IMG_8593Blog

IMG_8587Blog

All roasty and toasty!

    • Sweet potatoes in cinnamon, canola and salt
    • Brussels in smoked paprika, canola and salt
    • Masala tofu (by Twin Oaks’ More Than Tofu)
    • Leftover beets, roasted a second time

Veggies-2Blog

Yummmmm

IMG_8597Blog

Of course lots of ketchup was involved ; )

KetchupBlog

[FYI, I am sick of purple beets.]

IMG_8595Blog

A wee bit of lime on the side. We are out of sparkling water and Matt has been too busy to make more!

IMG_8601BlogIMG_8590Blog

On my way home tonight I stopped into Integral Yoga to get milk, yogurt and cheese. Out of dairy much!? In the process I turned into an impulse buyer when I saw the Stonyfield frozen yogurt on sale. I picked up a pint of the Java flavor and Matt made us bowls for dessert. Top with chia and coconut.

IMG_8603Blog

This is gross, but one reason I love chia seeds is because they get sort of stuck in your teeth. I love fishing out the gel! Ewwwww TMI!

We have some bakery business to do – hiring decisions to make and things to talk about over the next few days. We’re slicing at a race on Saturday (the Montalto 5K if you’re in Cville!) and I’m going to Warrenton tomorrow to pick up the bread. Hoping for some Lynda’s granola in the process!!!

    haha re the chia seeds!

and being sick of beets? well, yes, Ive BTDT too. Once I ate about 5 beets in a sitting from my CSA box, they were just picked, so fresh, local san diego beets…and i was in love with them. And gave myself an unplanned for liver detox. I was turned off from beets for about a year, but I am back with the beet love.

The transformation is BREATH TAKING on your bakery. Kath, amazing job! It’s beautiful!

A week until the store comes together, but just under a month until we open

I just use regular ketchup. I don’t eat it often or in large enough quantities to worry about HFCS. I tried an organic kind once and hated it.

We use Hunt’s ketchup — it’s a “regular” ketchup (i.e. not too pricey!) and does not have any HFCS.
