Quick + Easy x2

Dentist was quick + easy – Karen was in and out in an hour and is sleeping off the sedation upstairs. I made her a smoothie when we got home of banana, pineapple, milk and chocolate frozen yogurt, and served it with an antique bell for her to ring if she needs me 🙂

dsc00042.JPG

I had about a shotglass pour of the smoothie remains for a little snack. The blend of tropical pineapple + banana with chocolate was quite good!

Lunch was quick + easy as well.

Turkey, Avocado, Spinach, Pickle, Jalapeño, Mustard Sandwich on Rudi’s Honey Wheat Bread

dsc00050.JPG

Plus a carrot and a peach. I was too lazy to cut either up and actually really liked eating them in hand. Guess I’ll start saving myself some time and eating more whole foods!

dsc00046.JPG

Plus plain yogurt, jam, flax with wheatberries, which I cooked on the stove when we got home.

dsc00044.JPG

It was a very satisfying lunch.

And I have to eat dinner in 3 hours! Blarg! But I’m sure I’ll be hungry again by then 😉

builtny.com i think is where the lunch bags were from…kath how big is your gourmet getaway bag? i know the dimensions are on the sight, but do you think the regular sized lunch bag would be too small?

Ha, I had carrots and a peach with my lunch today too. My first peach of the season! And it was delicious. Gosh, I still need to try wheatberries sometimes. Your blog always makes me want to try all these different kinds of foods and flavor combinations. Thanks for being so dedicated to posting, KERF is fun to read =]

Hi Kath! Thanks for writing such a great blog! I read it everyday. I just had a question, but if it’s too redundant, you don’t have to answer. I know you mentioned before that you eat about 500 cals at each meal, then 1-2 snacks/day most often. About how many calories do you think you burn on average each day with exercise? I am having trouble knowing for sure what the right amount of calories is for me to eat when I burn about 400-600 cals/day with exercise. I eat similarly to you, but I’m also 6’0 tall! Thanks for your suggestions!

Your such a good daughter in law!

That turkey looks so fresh and unlike the slimy stuff I buy. What brand or how do you buy it? i usually get dietz and watson turkey breast from the deli counter at the grocery. Yours looks homemade though!

    kath,
how many calories are in a slice of rudis honey wheat bread? i use ekeziel bread, but sprouts is so far away from me so i bought a different organic whole wheat bread but it has 100 calories per slice. that seems a bit high to me.

    Fit4Life,

If you Google “Rudi’s Honey Whole Wheat Bread calories,” you can find this:

    http://www.thedailyplate.com/nutrition-calories/food/rudis-organic-bakery/honey-sweet-whole-wheat-bread/

which says 100 calories per slice.

    Molly ,
    It’s from Pier 1 – from 2005.

Awesome Lisa! So glad you like the bag 🙂

    kathleen ,
I’m not sure how big the lunch bag is (or what it’s like) but if it’s the one with the compartments, I preferred the one with just 1 big compartment to fill as I please rather than be limited by shapes and a drink holder. The Gourmet is quite roomy – the size of a soccer ball? Maybe a kids’ soccer ball? Hope that helps…

    Marie ,
On average I burn between 350 and 550 kcal per day, depending on my workout and walks. Usually I’m closer to 500 than 400.

    Jessica ,
    Horray for wheatberries!

    Robin ,
I’ve been buying the Applegate Farms Natural Maple Turkey. It does seem less slimey and watery than deli brands. I like it a lot.

    Fit4Life,
Here’s the nutritional info. It’s 100 kcal per slice on my package but says 110 here on the website?? I do think 200 kcal for bread alone is a little heafty, but it’s big enough you can easily make a half sandwich too.

    rachel k,
