Procrastination Adventure

After two hours of studying, I’d had enough of the indoors and set out on an adventure. My plan was to bike to the closest greenway entrance and do a little running, but before I knew it I was headed to the further greenway entrance (the one on the way to Kate + Nate’s and Great Harvest) and then found myself on their doorstep!! We discussed being more spontaneous at dinner on Saturday, so I said “Sa-prise!” when Nate opened the door. Gilbert was happy to see me and licked all over my legs! Kate wasn’t there (she was out shopping) so I continued my journey by run to Great Harvest to visit Matt.  He was quite surprised to see me as well! During my 5 minute visit, I let me sample a tsp of Naturally Nutty Vanilla Almond Butter they received as a sample for the store on a tiny piece of Cinnamon Chip bread.

OMG.

Must. Purchase. This.

It was amazing!! Almost like vanilla frosting!!!

Almond Vanilla4anutri2

I said goodbye to Matt and ran the 1 mile back to Kate + Nate’s. Kate was home, I said hello and chatted for a few and was back on my way home.

I’d say total I covered about 12 miles on bike and 2.5 on foot. It was glorious!

But I was pretty hungry when I arrived home. I planned this salad on my way back:

IMG_2750

  • ~3-4 cups romaine, drizzled in balsamic and Orange Blossom Honey (honey makes the best salad dressing ever!)
  • Plus a bowl of the following, heated in the microwave until they were hot:
    • 1/2 large cooked sweet potato
    • 1/2 cup pinto beans
    • 3 broccoli trees
    • 2 finger-long peppers
    • 1 handful pre-prepped kale
  • Plus
    • 1 tbsp raisins + peanuts

And the last bit of the Food Should Taste Good Sweet Potato Chip crumbs –

Get combo of flavors!

I’ve got two midterms tomorrow and tons of studying left to do.

If it’s not too buggy, I might go read in the hammock! It’s cooler out today (only 65*) but still very nice.

Uh oh, looks like someone already beat me to the hammock!!

    Your salad looks lovely!

I’ve recently been running/walking to more errands/events lately because I’ve been so inspired by you. I live only 1.5 miles from my office and about 2 miles from my yoga studio, so I’ve been trying to get in the habit of running home from work and the studio, most of the time adding some zigzags to get my distance higher. Thanks for the glorious evenings! 🙂

Good luck studying and on your tests tomorrow!

That almond butter sounds so good! (at first I typed “almost butter”) I’ll have to keep my eye out…or maybe even make a trip to Whole Foods (which I usually avoid for my poor wallet’s sake!) to scope it out.

This may be a silly question, but what’s a greenway entrance? Never lived in NC, and we don’t have them here in the Northeast!?? Wish I could bike and run around as much as you do to do errands, but our suburbia roads don’t allow for us to safely do so!

And WOW, what a workout! I’m just curious, do you ever worry about burning more calories than you take in? I think about that every once in a while when I have a very exercise-filled day. Does it usually just even out over the week? Or is something to keep an eye on?

I love how spontaneous you are! It reminds me of when I was a kid and just showing up at friends houses was a normal thing.

That almond butter sounds AMAZING. You’ve inspired me to make my own in my vitamix — I recently made a savory almond butter with garlic and red pepper seasonings, but vanilla sounds like the way to go.

    Andrea [bella eats],
    Way to use those legs!

    Diana ,
I don’t think so – that would be nice though!

    eatingRD ,
Check the FAQ page. Blog Question #6.

    Kathryn ,
I run my errands on suburbia sidewalks, but we are lucky to have a Greenway that spans about 6 miles down in South Charlotte. It’s basically just a walking/biking/running trail through the woods behind a bunch of neighborhoods. It takes me 20 minutes just to get to it, but it makes biking to places that are far away more pleasant, even if it’s longer. There are 4 different entrances – some better than others!

    Heather,
I mildly keep my eye on it, but I don’t really burn that many calories. I’d be more concerned if I was running 7-10+ miles on a regular basis. I wore my heart rate monitor today and burned about 500 calories in my 2 hours of activity. Not as much as you’d think, but biking doesn’t get my HR up that much.

    amy (veganissexy),
    How fun! Focaccia looks great!

    Jaclyn ,
Naturally Nutty is only available online – or perhaps a few specialty stores, but I’ve never seen it.

    Liz (The Good Eatah),
Let us know if it’s awesome!

    Jennifer,
I was just telling Kate this morning: think how fast you’d order a $10 glass of wine in a restaurant. Then think of all the spoonfuls of PB you could savor for the same amount. It’s still very expensive, but it seems more worth it when you think about all the other ways we spend $10.
