Practice Makes Perfect

Had a GREAT morning:

  1. Bought a new COMPUTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! An HP desktop. So excited I’m about to burst.
  2. Turned in a looming assignment
  3. Had a fabulous run

I set out running around 11:30. I had positive energy, so I decided to make it a speed day. When I run for speed I breathe HARD. And what tires on me first is my lower calves. Guess I’m pushing off harder? Two tricks I do for speed:

1) Sprint down hills. I try to get my pace under 7:00 going downhill (and my neighborhood has lots of hills, so this happens a lot)

2) Run up hills on my toes. My uphill pace is about 9:00 so I am averaging between 8:25-8:30 on the flats these days.

I ran about 4 miles in my neighborhood and ended at a middle school track where I decided to do a timed mile. I ran the 4 laps not as fast as I could but as fast as I could maintain with a solid pace and finished in 7:41. Need to bump that up and multiply it by 3 for my 5K this weekend! I’m a HUGE believer in muscle memory, so I wanted the last thing I ran to be fast. Practice makes perfect! I jogged a slow mile back to my house and probably did about 5.5-6 total. My legs are tired!!

That extra mile took a bite out of my lunch time, and I ended up rushing out the door with a satchel of packed foods –

Main course was a Brie and Pumpkin Butter sandwich on High Five Fiber [Crunch!]

Brie is the new Laughing Cow 🙂

IMG_7045 (640x427)

I ate half of my sandwich in the car (not exactly placemat friendly!) along with a giant carrot. I just finished the rest of the sandwich now – at 3:30. My run took away my appetite so I wasn’t starving during class, but I think I’m going to have my snack now too because I can feel it catching up with me…

Gotta new cottage cheese!!!  + Mix My Granola for more crunch

IMG_7047 (427x640)

All packed up plus…

The carrot I ate in the car and a pear and Glo-Bar to have during MNT. I didn’t have time to pack a dinner so I hope I don’t get too hungry before I get home at 8:30! If so, I’ve got even more snacks to tide me over 🙂

[OMG – just took a bite of the Lemon Verbena Berry cottage cheese and it is heavenly good!!!!!!!!!!!]

Sorry to be so scattered brained! Must study!

I have the same question as Gabs about the carrot? I have out of habit more than anything else peeled my carrots, but I am wondering if I’m missing out on some nutrients by doing so… just curious.

I am now on the lookout for tiny bries like yours- I love brie!!!

I want/need a new one SO bad but I’m making myself hold off…maybe if/when I start grad school next year, I’ll be able to justify the purchase. Right now I share my boyfriend’s computer, so when he has to study and I want to blog, guess who wins? 😉

YAY for the new computer!!! And that cottage cheese looks yummy.

Way to go on the run!, But please, please, for the sake of your knees be careful on the downhills!! I know they feel easy and make you want to fly, but when I was struggling w/knee issues over the summer, downhills would ALWAYS make them hurt worse. Make sure your form is good – here is a link to a good article from Runner’s World:
    http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-238-263-264-13100-0,00.html
On the uphills, though, I do the same thing as you. And I use the rubber band mental trick – imagine a rubber band stretching b/n you and the top of the hill and pulling you up. Sounds silly, but it works! Hills=speedwork in disguise!!

RE. BRIE: From Costco! The brand is that one with like IL in the title and the Italian flag. Sorry I am too lazy to go check! I will try to remember to photograph the label next time!

    Gabs + Eileen,
I eat the skin and I do not buy organic carrots. As far as I know, they are not part of the dirty dozen? I do always wash them though and I take off any bad spots. I don’t think you’re really losing any nutrients by peeling them – just a layer of carrot flesh.

    Wendy,
    Thanks for the article!

    Liz,
It’s on the FAQ page 🙂 But they are Crate + Barrel.

Your energy is infectious and it’s just through writing, I’ve really enjoyed reading through your articles and learning a little more about you…I can see why your blog is so popular.

And one last thing, your pictures are insane! The reason I’m trying the recipes is because of the presentation you give them with the gorgeous photos.
