Holy frigid night!! I stepped outside at 5:30 to find the weather had gone from summer afternoon to freezing fall evening in a matter of minutes. Shorts + t-shirt –> jeans and a jacket.
The season of drinking hot liquids has begun!
Look what I found!!!!!!!!!!!! I went to Possessions Recycled (my favorite vintage/hand-me-down store in our Great Harvest shopping center) looking for a kettle after a few business meetings today. Ever since our electric kettle broke a year ago, I’ve been heating hot water in a pot on the stovetop!
Sitting in between dozens of cracked and older models, I found this beauty in perfect condition. For all I know, it’s from 2010 [it’s got modern features like that nifty handle there], but I’m just going to pretend it’s from the 50s 😉
Bread snack during meeting + conference call:
Followed by more bread for dinner! Matt and I scored tickets to see the Avett Brothers from our friends at the radio station where we’re advertising! Since we now live within walking distance to downtown and the Pavilion, it made for a fantastic Thursday night date.
We packed tomato + cheddar cheese sandwiches in paper towels and ate them before the concert.
Tomato, mustard, pepper and cheddar is the new cheese + jam! This was so good!!
Beer for him
Coat for her!
I wasn’t all that familiar with the Avett Bros, but I LOVED their music!! Great show!
Fingers crossed that by putting the down comforter on our bed I’ll sleep better tonight!
Caitlin @ Cake with Love says
How great is that kettle, so KERF, and in my favorite green color!!!! Glad you enjoyed the show!
kaila@ healthy helper blog! says
Love that kettle! Fave color right there for sure! And I love the ungrilled cheese sandwiches! YUM!
Katie @ Talk Less, Say More says
What a gorgeous kettle! I’m heating water in a pot too, maybe it’s time I try to find myself a beauty like that one! 🙂
Molly @ RDexposed says
I keep forgetting to take tea bags with me to work. I actually saw my breath this morning! 🙁
Cat @ Breakfast to Bed says
The first cold night is ALWAYS my favorite sleeping night!!
Katie @ Peace Love and Oats says
that’s so cool that you live within walking distance! I see a lot of great date nights in your future!
lynn @ the actor's diet says
i recently got a hot water dispenser which i love, but i do kinda miss my kettle
Being within walking distance is so convenient. Good moving call.
Ann @ Day by Day says
My kettle is the exact same green and very similar, just a bit bigger. And I’m so jealous of your night. I love the Avett Brothers. I’ve been listening to them on Pandora all the time.
Annette @ EnjoyYourHealthyLife says
I LOVE love hot drinks! It is Fall time!!
And yes, tomato and cheese makes for a killer sandwich 🙂
Laura (Blogging Over Thyme) says
You should try an electric kettle next! They are so fast and keep space on the stove, which is nice if you are making a lot at once. They also turn off automatically, which is very nice to have. I couldn’t live without mine.
Well I had one – actually two – and they broke! And they aren’t as sexy 🙂
katie @KatieDid says
Avett brothers?! Love them! I’m incredibly jealous you got to see them on this gorgeous fall evening at an outdoor venue. Sounds like a fun evening!
[email protected] says
I’m snuggled in my down comforter too! It’s cold out there. I miss cutting that cheddar cheese 🙂
I absolutely love tomato sandwiches!
Angie @ Musings of a Violet Monkey says
Send the cooler weather down here!! Can’t wait for autumn.
I’ve heard OF the Avett Brothers, but don’t think I have ever heard their music.
Cheddar and tomato is a personal favorite of mine! (But I always buy white sharp cheddar – I don’t need the orange additive!).
Sweet and Savvy says
I Love that kettle! It is so cute! 🙂
Cooler weather has arrived here too, and the night sky looks really clear, so I am expected it will be another freezing night / morning!
LOVE the avett brothers and they are so fun live. what a great first of fall weather thursday night after a long week of packing and unpacking!
kathleen @ the daily crumb says
love these fun weeknight events y’all have in your area. such a great mid-week treat 🙂
J3nn(Jenn's Menu and Lifestyle Blog) says

Ok I love your new kettle! The color is perfect.
Casey @ Pocket Full of Sunshine says
Kath, that coat is adorable! Where is it from? You look so cute!
Thanks! It’s from Loehmann’s 🙂 My grandmother takes us there sometimes when we visit and I get a handful of my more unique pieces at once. It’s kinda like a TJ Maxx.
So jealous of your evening listening to the Avett Brothers live! Here is a link of a them doing a Tiny Desk concert for NPR 🙂 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abQRt6p8T7g I discovered them last year through another blog. Enjoy the Fall temps and new home 🙂
Ali @ Peaches and Football says
I love your teakettle! The more I read about how bad microwaving is, the more I think I should at least be using the stove for boiling water. (Some things are harder to break the micro-zapping habit 🙂 ) One step at a time, right?
Glad you enjoyed the show. I wish I lived close enough to walk ANYWHERE but this town is pretty spaced out.
Gina @ running to the kitchen says
That kettle is awesome! Looks brand new to me.
Check out the album “I and Love and You” by the Avett Brothers—-it’s AMAZING.
I love the way they phrased that!
Cait's Plate says
Oh what a fun night! And I know – it was chilly out tonight! I was in a tank top from earlier in the day and boy was that the wrong choice by nightfall!
PS – LOVE the military jacket, I have one very similar 🙂
Ashley @ My Food 'N' Fitness Diaries says
LOVE your kettle! We got two kettles for our wedding: one just like the one you bought today (except in red) and an electric one. I couldn’t justify having TWO kettles, so I knew I needed to return one of them…it was such a hard choice! The “cute one” (or “sexy” as you called it above 😉 ) was better looking, but the electric was more efficient. I opted with the better looking one, and I’m glad I did! It looks perfect on our stove. 🙂
That kettle is so cute, I love the colour!
I’m not too familiar with the Avett Brothers either, but some of my friends and my fiance’s parent’s are so I will be seeing them in a couple of weeks! Good to hear that they put on a great show 🙂
Julie H. of Spinach and Sprinkles says
What a cute little kettle! LOVE that it is ‘recycled! ….I had my first hot chocolate of the season tonight! 🙂 Heart warming!
Shaya (Eye Girl Eats) says
So jealous!! Soak in the cool night air for me. It’s still 70 out at 8pm!
Maria @ Maria Makes Muffins says
Super cute new kettle. We had a freeze advisory last night and I awoke to frost on the rooftops this morning! Our down comforter is coming out tonight. Stay warm!
Kate (What Kate is Cooking) says
I love crisp fall nights! It felt like autumn this morning here- cool and cloudy 🙂
Although I like the look of a stove kettle,I think an electric kettle
is much better….
1) boils quicker, uses less energy consumption
2)in the summer I avoid turning stove on as it heats up kitchen when hot weather!
3) I find it much quicker/simpler to use
so I chose practicality, ease, speed and energy saving over cuteness! 😉
(but that is a cute one for sure!!)
Averie @ Love Veggies and Yoga says
Cute kettle and nice find!! See, when you donate/recycle/declutter as much as you have the past few weeks in advance of your move, the universe knew it and had that kettle just WAITING for you! Good karma, alrighty! You had some in store 🙂
I LOVE vintage/hand-me-down/thrift store finds for the kitchen (and blog photo props)…I get really excited over $1 plates that look like much more.
Cute coat but sorry it got cold…I want summer year round!
Deva @ Deva by Definition says
I love the kettle! The one we bought when we moved in four years ago has started getting funky and we need to replace it. I want a red one :-).
and I am digging out the quilt to put on the bed tonight – it’s going to be in the forties!
Angela @ PattycakesnPancakes says
Aaaahhhhh it’s 90 here in FL still. Too hot!
Love the kettle. Cool find!
If you find yourself with a glut of tomatoes Mark Bittman has a tasty recipe for Tomato Jam. I made the version from The Wednesday Chef and it was an intriguing mix of sweet and savory-is perfect with cheese on a sammich.
I had a tomato jam once. It wasn’t bad, but I just couldn’t get over the tomatoes – they were one of the last foods I liked! It reminded me of tomato aspic!
Lara @TresLaLa says
My hubby loves the Avett Brothers! He’s seriously jealous right now. 😛
So jealous you saw the Avett Brothers! I was just checking out their fall tour schedule but they won’t be near me 🙁 I adore your blog and appreciate all of the work you put into it! You are amazing!
Thanks Annie 🙂
Rosa - Fitness, Food, Fulfilled says
Love the kettle. What a great color!
Love the kettle- such a fun color!
Green kettle! What a bright sparkling thing to have on hand.
Candy @ Healthy in Candy Land says
Love that kettle! Makes me want to get one too. I love the idea of one, I’m just not sure if I’d actually use it instead of just heating up a mug of water in the microwave…
I have a cute red one. Never use it. Way faster to heat a cup of water in the microwave.
i adore that kettle color! i hate secondhand shops here because what happens is that they mark up the prices instead of marking them down b/c they’re vintage. 🙁
Aine @ Something to Chew Over says
What a gorgeous kettle! So cute!
Great find 🙂
sarah (the SHU box) says
love avett brothers 🙂 but i’m not ready for real cold!

I know I have said this before, but I wish we had a Great Harvest around here in Rhode Island! That sandwich (and especially the bread) looks so delicious!
1. That kettle is adorable. I need a new one, too—and now I’m jealous! Haha.
2. I was thinking about my down comforter last night, too! I can’t accept the fact that it’s already that time.
So jealous … I’m new to the Avett Brothers, first heard them singing with Bob Dylan at the Grammys. I tuned in to watch Dylan, but instantly became an AB fan. Love your new tea kettle! Looks totally retro to me. =)

The Avett Brothers are amazing! They won me over last summer. 🙂

Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin says
Yup it’s definitely hot beverage season now. I’ve pretty much had a mug of tea glued to my hand for the past few days!
Love, love, love The Avetts! They put on the most energetic shows and are so down to earth. I always think of them as the hometown boys (from Concord, NC).
It did get cold fast yesterday. Within hours it went from shorts and a t-shirt to sweatshirts, jeans and jackets. Unreal!
I love your new kettle! So cool you can walk to all your favorite places now. Who know such a simple sandwich could look so good. Yum!
I am so glad you enjoyed the Avett Brothers. They are my favorite band of all time!!
LOVE the Avett Brothers. They were here not long ago and I couldn’t make it. Sounds like a great Thursday night!
D @ Lifevsfood.com says
That sandwich looks insane.
Sara G. says
I saw that tea kettle at Possessions Recycled when I stopped in there after visiting the bakery for the first time! I almost purchased it then!! Congrats on a great find, and enjoy the toasty-warm drinks! It’s so cold out this morning…quite different from the island (PR)!
Haha – hilarious!
Outdoor Avett Brothers concert! SOOOO JEALOUS! They are unique, but I hope you loved them! (And that tomato/cheddar sandwich looks wonderful!)
LOVE The Avett Brothers! We saw them live in Norfolk back in 2009, and I think it was one of the best live shows I’ve been too!
I just registered for that exact same teapot from target for my upcoming wedding 😉
Thanks for busting my hopes that it’s vintage!!!
[j/k 🙂 ]
I googled Target and did not find the same tea kettle. Looks like a Kitchen Aid. Not sure.
Emily Anne says
i’m coming to c’ville tonight to see the avett bros! they are great… from north carolina, too!

I am so jealous that you got to see the Avett Brothers!!!! I adore them! I radomly got to see them play at Radio City Music Hall when I was in NYC last October and it was the highlight of my trip. Their music is amazing!!! Glad you enjoyed them!
What type of bread did you enjoy your tomato sandwich on? I have a Great Harvest near me that I frequent, but I can’t recall seeing one like that. I looks so good.
Cville Crunch…aka Flax Oat Bran
Great kettle! I saw similar ones at Sur la Table a couple of weeks ago that were adorable 🙂 Haha, it would have been the same for my Dear and me too [beer for him, coat for me]!
Love avett brothers! They are from nc…just north of charlotte. 🙂
The Avett Brothers rock and I like your jacket.
FUN! I am going to see Earth, Wind, and Fire there in c’ville tomorrow! Maybe I’ll run into Justin your painter 😉 If I get there in time, I’ll stop in Great Harvest!
