Pieces Of The Puzzle

Good afternoon! And had quite a good morning. I finished the menu for my restaurant (always start with the menu!). My restaurant is called Earth & Ocean and it’s a hybrid seafood and vegetarian bistro. The menu has a handful of appetizers, tons of salads (with really fun toppings like Ginger Crusted Tuna and Maple Glazed Tempeh!), a “From the Earth” entree list and a “From The Ocean” list. And of course desserts, including S’mores and Oatmeal Creme Brulee! (Had to fit in on there somehwere

 this !
) Soooooo…….the fun part is over. Now I have to move into layout, design and equipment, which is NOT going to be easy.

I went running at noon to soak up some sunshine. About 5.5 miles in some of our neighboring neighborhoods. It was a good run – relatively easy and to the point. I take back my harshness on the freezer burn flavor of the Apple Oatmeal – it held me over until 2:00!!??! Amazing.

For lunch I had leftover tofu on Great Harvest High Five Fiber with mustard and some Country Bob’s Sauce.

IMG_1081 (1024x768)

Al at Country Bob’s sent me two bottles of this all-purpose sauce to try, and it’s very good!! It’s a really great blend for a BBQ sauce – perfect balance of tang, smoke and spice. I actually prefer it to the Bone Suckin’ Sauce. I opened the Spicy one first since I’m partial to spice, but we have a regular as well. I love BBQ sauce!

IMG_1076 (1024x768)

IMG_1088 (1024x768)

I put some more sauce on a few veggies –

IMG_1087 (1024x768)

I also had half a grapefruit (saving the other half for tomorrow’s lunch since we’re low on fruit)

IMG_1080 (1024x768)

A small handful of Mary’s Gone Crackers, which I haven’t had in ages.

IMG_1086 (1024x768)

And to round out the meal: 1/2 cup TJ’s greek with some Blueberry Crackle Granola Plank, half a large banana, and some coconut.

IMG_1083 (1024x768)

All put together:

IMG_1085 (1024x768)

And last, but certainly not least, a piece of a Cadbury bar that my parents’ contractor brought my mom back from England over Christmas! Probably the only milk chocolate that I think is worth gobbling down

IMG_1089 (1024x768)

Country Contest!!

Country Bob’s has offered to send two of you two bottles of sauce! Leave a comment to enter and I’ll randomly choose the winners to post with breakfast tomorrow. Good luck!

See y’all for dinner.

Yey for Cadbury chocolate. My Grandma used to like very close to Nestle in York and when ever I visited I could smell the chocolate wafting over from the factory. I imagine it could get a bit sickly smelling it every day.

Oooo I would love some BBQ sauce.

Kath- If you need some inspiration for design etc for the restaurant, check out the website for Ubuntu in Napa. It was reviewed as one of the top restaurants in the US last year and it is also Veggie/Vegan friendly. The restaurant is BEAUTIFUL and the owners grow a ton of their own ingredients. Sounds right up your alley! Check it out- and maybe add it to your list of places to try if you ever visit wine country!

Yum. Cadbury’s Dairy Milk is one thing that I’ve had to avoid completely since I lost weight, since I have absolutely NO control around it. Although I will have to stick my head above the battlements and risk having empty wrappers thrown at me by the Brit readers and say that New Zealand Cadbury’s chocolate is much better than the UK Cadbury’s! 🙂 The NZ Cadbury’s factory is in my city and you can smell the chocolate roasting sometimes. They do tours there, too, which are styled on a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory experience and are not a good idea if you’re watching your weight!

Kath – your meals always look delicious and yet they are full of nutrition. I’m amazed at how you manage to incorporate so many vegetables in each meal. It seems to me that you are eating a lot of food, yet manage to stay thin. Do you have any idea how many calories you are consuming each day? Just curious…thanks!

I have been following your blog every once and a while now, and I must say it has been quite enjoyable. It’s nice to know that someone else out there eats good nutritious meals and loves to exercise! I personally like Bone Suckin’ Sauce and have never tried the one you mentioned, which I might not be able to because of my special dietary requirements but, hey it looks tasty.

    Hi Kath,

I read your blog all the time, but I’ve never left a comment before! You’re great, I love your attitude and really respect what you’re doing. Did you know Earth and Ocean is a real restaurant in Seattle? (I’m a Seattllite and a foodie) It’s in the W Hotel, and the resturant is designed on a concept just like yours. Check out: www.earthocean.net

    Cheers!

I swear I’m not commenting JUST for the BBQ sauce (although that would be lovely!), but I just wanted to say how AMAZINGLY AWESOME it is that you’re designing an entire restaurant. When I first read that, I was a little giddy, because WOW, that’s just .. SO COOL!

I also wanted to offer any help you might need. I majored in Graphic Design, and love to draw, so if you need any help with a logo or colors or whatever, just let me know!! I might even do something like this JUST FOR FUN, because I just adore stuff like this, haha.

In college, I think we did a similar project, but just made the name, and a logo, and I did the Lemur Cafe. Wish I still had it.

Anyway, good luck! (Check out my URL for my art site!)

    Diane ,
I average between 1700 and 1900, with 2500+ on occasion 😉 Check the FAQ page.

    Michelle ,
When I’m by myself I often will grab a book, magazine or turn on the TV. Sometimes I do take my meal into the TV room and eat on a tray, but I try to eat at the table most of the time. It’s nice when I have company!

    Lisa,
I don’t eat BBQ sauce too often and when I do it’s by the tbsp or so and not by the cup, so I am not worried about sugar or HFCS in that quantity. If I am going to purchase it, I would try to choose the most natural one I could find though.

    Karis ,
NO WAY!! They totally stole my idea!!! Haha. I’ll go check out their site.

    Stephanie,
We don’t really need any design to go with the project – it’s more the nuts and bolts of foodservice. But if you want to do a logo that would fit the Earth & Ocean theme, I’d be happy to tack it onto my menu 🙂 The colors are the ones I used above, or I could send you them in an email. Thanks so much for offering!

I’m picky about bbq sauce sometimes so I usually make my own- it’s really easy and I can control the ratios of sweet, spicy and smoky- but I’m always up for a good bottled kind!
