I slept well last night!! My gift from Matt was this gorgeous paisley duvet cover from Crate + Barrel. I love all things paisley and green (hence our wedding theme)! He surprised me with it on the bed when I came up last night. Quite a surprise!
It’s so silky soft
It’s National Oatmeal Day!
Did you know today’s the day!?!?! And being 10/29, it’s quite appropriate that the 9 is an upside-down 6 🙂
I decided when I didn’t eat my pear yesterday that it would be fun to give pear oatmeal a try again. I haven’t had it in ages. Generally banana is the king of oat fruits, and really nothing compares…compears….but I always enjoy a little change….for a day.
- 1/3 cup oats, milk, water
- 1/2 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp raisins
- 1 small bosc pear (which was sadly a bit underripe)
- Nutmeg, cinnamon, vanilla
- Bourbon pecans from Fresh Market
- Costco PB
I put the pear in in the beginning and it softened some, but it was still pretty crunchy in the oats. However, I enjoyed the crunch!
My coffee loves me again!!!

Polly sent me these darling socks for my bday!! They are the softest socks I have ever felt and have fun grippies on the bottom. Thanks Pols!!
And while I’m showing off my perfect pair… my new slippers from Target are totally awesome!!

I love duvet covers…you can mix up your bed without too much work…unless you have to crawl inside the cover to get the comforter inside! (Maybe that’s just me?)
I’ve almost bought those slippers…twice! I really just need to bite the bullet before my toes start to freeze.
That duvet cover is so beautiful!
Hmmm pear oatmeal.. must try that. 🙂
Cute socks and comfy looking slippers!
What a beautiful bed spread! I definitely have those slippers from Target 🙂 So comfy and cute!
That duvet is gorgeous. I love green too!
Cynthia (It All Changes) says
I love that duvet. I used to work at Bed Bath and Beyond and loved to wander around the bedding section looking at the duvets and bed sets imagining what I wanted on my bed. We might need a new bed set soon so I want to do that again.
I love pear in my oatmeal. I soften it in the microwave with some cinnamon before adding it to my oatmeal. Just firm enough but nice and melty almost.
Good thing I had oatmeal today!
Thank you for getting that song stuck in my head all day. I haven’t seen that movie in AGES!!
Anne [email protected] Weigh of Life says

LOOOOOVE the bedspread! Great job Matt 😉
i love the duvet cover! Green is my favorite color, too.
Hope your morning is a good one!
For using pears/apples in my oatmeal, I always chop them and microwave them for a minute – minute and a half before adding them so they’re a bit softer.
Love the duvet- good work Matt! I was thinking about having oatmeal for breakfast and after seeing your post made myself a big, delicious bowl. Yum!
I celebrated Oatmeal day today with just a plain ole bowl of oatmeal and banana.
I love the new duvet. I got a paisly placemat recently from Kohls and love it!
SOOOO jealous of your birthday present – green is my FAVORITE color (obv!) – and that is such a gorgeous pattern – leave it to C&B! major props to matt! 🙂

I was totally bummed for a second there that the one morning I don’t have oatmeal, it’s National Oatmeal Day! But then I realized, I’ve eaten enough oatmeal to last me years of National Oatmeal Days, I think I’m good 😉

the duvet is beautiful! and i’m so jealous your hubby knows how to put on a duvet cover…i’ve tried to explain it to my husband and he can’t do it. it takes ME forever.
Where to begin? I love the new duvet cover and am totally jealous of your spotless, clutter-free room!
Pear oatmeal is one of my favorites, though I do think a ripe pear makes all the difference. I do pear, dried cranberries, pecans and a little maple syrup.
That is a stunning duvet cover — well done, Matt! 😀
Wow, great job Matt! That duvet is gorgeous!! Your bedroom is so neat and organized- it makes me want to go clean my room 🙂
The Big Blue Dog says
I have that same duvet!!!
Love it 🙂
I. Love. Pear. Oatmeal. I let the pear ripen a lot, then cut it in chunks and stir it in at the end with some maple syrup and nutmeg and walnuts. Oh, heaven help me it’s delicious!
Your duvet is gorgeous. It’s sweet that he knows your tastes so well! Happy late birthday! Keep on celebrating.

Also love the new bed cover! BEAUTIFUL!
Have a spectacular day. I am making something with oatmeal right this minute (see blog) and totally plan on eating a bowl latah for snackie. Much love to you guys and again, happy late birthday, friend! XOXO
Thought you might be interested in this – I make crockpot yogurt. I can make about 6 ounces for 11 cents and I use expensive milk. You can find the recipe at the crockpotting for a year blog. If you filter it through a coffee filter, it gets thick like Greek yogurt!
PS I make about 1/2 gallon of yogurt at a time. The price was just figured for 6 ounces in my other post, because that’s usually the size it comes in at the store.
i love the new duvet! matt has great taste!
my friends are obsessed with those Target slippers. lol.
love the duvet.
I was obsessed with Pippi Longstocking! I was Pippi for Halloween one year, and I can remember bringing my boombox down to the edge of the driveway, blasting the Pippi theme song, and dancing around in my red pigtail wig and Pippi costume and waving to people as they drove by. I was a special child. 🙂 LOL.
OMG. I LOVED Pippi Longstocking when I was little! i can’t remember how many movies she had, but I definitely saw them all AND I named my childhood dog Pippi because of her. So great.
He’s a keeper 😉
Fattie Fatterton says
Wow, I love that duvet cover. Matt has excellent taste!!
What a pretty duvet cover!! Pear oats sound amazing. I may have to try it! LOVE those socks (and your reference to Pippy Longstocking). Glad your coffee loves you! 🙂
Janna (Just Flourishing) says
Those socks look so comfy!!!!
I love pears and can’t wait to try a recipe I saw for baked pears with a walnut-blueberry filling…that sounds like your kind of food, doesn’t it? With a scoop of ice cream alongside–I can’t wait!
I’m sad I can’t celebrate National Oatmeal Day the right way. I’m not eating grains this week in honor of Celiac Awareness Month and for my niece, who cannot eat gluten or corn. I’ve been blogging about it every night, which is a lot more work than I ever realized! Daily food bloggers, I have a newfound respect for what you do.
Welcome!! I don’t really use cookbooks any more – because the internet is so vast. But I love the Williams Sonoma ones, plus Eat, Drink and Be Vegan, Vegan Express, and More-With-Less as good ones to recommend.
Killian Fallon says
Wow I love this post! I adore your bowl! Where did you get it? So unusual! I read your blog every day and have it on my blogroll, great ideas and such an inspiration to hear how you can enjoy the balance between amazing food and enjoyable exercise! Really inspiring, thanks xxx

That duvet cover is perfect, if you ask me. That shade of green is my favorite color and I love paisley, too. J would HATE it! 😀
Loved the Pippi Longstocking movie too! I always wanted to attach the scrub brushes to my feet and clean like they did….”Scrubbin’ day is a holiday…”
I have those slippers. I wear them outside sometimes. Don’t tell!
