You are here: Home / Lifestyle / Pee Pie!

Pee Pie!

I knew this was going to happen.

Yesterday when Mike was here I had 1.5 cups of coffee. I knew it would keep me awake the night before I had to get up early. I was right. I couldn’t fall asleep last night (and it didn’t help that Matt kept thrashing next to me with insomnia as well). Now I’m super sleepy!

Annoyed this !

IMG_7711 (640x427) (2)

But I had a little help from Mr. Programmable!

IMG_7709 (640x427) (3)

Repeating the same problem perhaps!? Since switching from French press to coffeemaker, I really have regretted a thing. Some days the coffee isn’t as rich, but most days I am so happy to have this guy on my countertop. Today was one of them! I set him to start brewing at 6:30 and by the time I came down for breakfast the house was smelling like a Folgers commercial!

IMG_7723 (640x427) (3)

Insta-Breakfast Mix

  • 1 container Siggi’s (so thick!!)
  • 2 tbsp TJ’s Peanut Flour (my favorite way to eat this is in yogurt)
  • 1/2 banana
  • Sprinkles of chia seeds, flax seeds and coconut
  • ~1/3 cup homemade crunchy buckwheat granola cereal
  • 1 tsp TJs pumpkin butter

I’m off to the Richmond Dietetics Association Fall Conference. I normally love conferences! But I don’t like that I’ll have to spend 2.5 hours in the car. I have a group of blog friends to look forward to meeting tonight!

Not sure of my blog posting timing today, but I’ll peep in to say hello around noon at least Mobile phone

    Have fun at your conference!!

Yeah, if I drink more than one cup of coffee, or if I have it past about 11:00 in the day, it keeps me up for hours. Ugh.

I can’t have any more than 1 cup of coffee or I’m up all hours.

Safe travels to the conference 🙂

Me + 1.5 cups of coffee = no sleep! And the bigger problem is that I LOVE LOVE LOVE coffee. The smell, the taste, everything about it. I usually stick to my 1 cup a day but if I have even 1/2 cup after 3 pm I’m up till 3 am!

    Enjoy that conference!

I think I can pysche myself into anything — just tell yourself you had decaf, even if you didn’t.

Really I think part of the reason that coffee makes me NOT fall asleep is because I keep thinking about it like “Oh no! I just had coffee, I can’t get to sleep now.” Just put it out of your mind–try not to think about it.

Or you could just have decaf?

I know what you mean about loving a programmable coffee pot. I had one for about a year before it broke and it wasn’t worth having it fixed. Now I’m back to an inexpensive coffee maker that I load up the night before and switch on when I come down to the kitchen in the morning. By the time I”m done fumbling around for a drink of water and geting breafkast out of the fridge, the coffee is ready. This method of coffee prep isn’t as aroma-rich as a programmable but it beats trying to make coffee in a cold, dark kitchen!

I guess I am lucky. Coffee never bothers me. Sure, it helps me wake up, but I could also probably go right back to sleep after drinking a cup if I really wanted.

Sometimes I feel like I’d kill for Siggi’s yoghurt! And then I think I’d quite happily *make do* with Oikos or something of that ilk. Sadly, it’s hard to find good greek style yoghurt that isn’t super rich here in Australia!

When you put the peanut flour in the yogurt, do you put it directly in or do you mix it with a little water first? I’m excited to try it – I had my mom send it to me in France and it should arrive in a day or two!!

I need to stop drinking caffeine by 2 pm in the afternoon or I will have trouble sleeping at night. It is the worst when your partner is not having a good night sleep either – makes it that much more difficult to sleep.

    Safe travels to Richmond.

    Kath,

Given that the half life of caffeine is known to be between 3-5 hours (the most commonly accepted being 4.9, seems very precise!), do you have a theory as to why it would be metabolised more slowly in your body and hence morning impact have an impact so much later than would be expected?

Is it just a caffeine issue for you, or have you noticed similarly slow clearance across the board? Interesting stuff, as ever!

    • Christina says

      October 20, 2010 at 9:53 am

Some people have a variation in the main CYP450 enzyme responsible for metabolizing caffeine. It extends the half life (and slows the clearance rate). Others are better metabolizers and more quickly eliminate caffeine.

I”ve heard it can take as much as 24 hours to clear from your body. Regardless, I know I am super sensitive to caffeine. If I have more than 2 cups I get the shakes big time, and I’ve always had trouble sleeping if I have more than 1 cup. I would love to give it up, but I do love it so, so I just keep my consumption to 1 cup a morning.

I could drink coffee all day, and the only reason it would keep me up is because I’d keep having to run to the bathroom. It’s not unusual for me to have 2 or 3 cups a day. Have a good day at the conference.
