Oldies But Goodies!

Getting up at 4:45 is no big deal if you’re in bed by 9! I had a great night of reading. I’m trying my darned hardest to finish South of Broad so I can start The Story of Edgar Sawtelle for our beach book club! Anyone read it?

I also love waking up at 4:45 because at 5:00 my radio station plays the Star Spangled Banner!! I love all patriotic music

 this !

Also also love oldies!!!! Today I went to Chuck’s cycle class – possibly the last time before we move – and had a blast spinning away. Chuck likes oldies and played some great beach music that got me PUMPED for my beach trip in 3 weeks!!

So since returning home, I’ve been blasting this Beach Boys Medley on Grooveshark!

I’m scarfing down this breakfast and blogging at the same time – no time, no time!!!

IMG_4678 (640x427)

A no-cook Flax Oat Bran bun topped with a small mashed banana (some of which I ate before cycle) and Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter and Maranatha Dark Chocolate Almond Butter. Mmmm!!!!

IMG_4676 (640x427)

This should hold me over just as long as normal breakfasts because it’s probably about 500 calories (remember Great Harvest bun’s are not 100 calorie thins – they’re pretty hearty – maybe 250 calories per bun!)

IMG_4679 (640x427)

Starbucks Via (no clean up!) with hot water, dumped with ice and some organic milk. I couldn’t do hot coffee today – I’m sweating already!

IMG_4682 (640x427)

IMG_4681 (640x427)

A Nutty Oldie and a Nutty Newbie!

Two fun nut-nouncements available for your enjoyment:

First off, Pecan Pie Butter is in stock! I have to say I did not know this stuff was so expensive when I tried it. It’s REALLY cool, but you’ll want to eat it slooowly if you get some 🙂 It is 100% organic and raw and has live enzymes which are supposedly expensive to create.

Second…

Cinnamon Vanilla Sunflower Butter is back!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only 26 available.

2 jars, 15 oz each.

Ready…set….go!

What’s your favorite oldies song!?

I like waking up earlier because Saved by the Bell is on. But I also don’t wake up as early as you :).

I’m moving soon and there is a Great Harvest in walking distance from our house. I get more excited each time I read your blog about this. Your bread always looks so good!

I’ve been getting up earlier and earlier to workout, and I have to say, reading about bloggers’ pre-5am wakeups is always a reminder that I can do it too! My favorite oldies song is “The Way You Look Tonight” by Frank Sinatra. It’s what I want to dance with my daddy to at my wedding 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful day!

Edgar Sawtelle will be a good beach read. It’s a bit slow, but it’s a great story.

Favourite oldies are probably Beatles and Beach Boys – my parents’ music, which reminds me of family trips from when I was a kid.

Yes, I’ve read Edgar Sawtell. I wanted to like it so much, it received huge reviews, even from Oprah – who loved it. I just didn’t. It was soooooo longggggg. and by the end, I was depressed, almost. There didn’t seem to be much of a story there, especially one that had that big of a book in which to tell it.
Anyways, books are like wine – what’s good tasting to one sometimes is not all that good to another!

Tip on the via: You can take the packet, mix it with cold water, and add ice. It dissolves in either hot or cold water. If you have trouble making it add an inch of hot water to the via in the beginning and then the rest with cold water. Can you tell I work at Starbucks. 🙂

I’m with Claire and Erin regarding Edgar Sawtelle. Our book club read it and we were equally divided regarding whether we liked it or not. (I couldn’t finish it.) It’s funny, when I think of oldies I think of Motown. However, I guess Sting’s “Brand New Day” would be considered an oldie, so I will go with that as one of my favorites. Btw, I love, love your website. I just tried fig preserve, a few Toasted Oat cereal from Whole Foods and natural peanut butter in my Greek-style plain yogurt…something I never would have tried without inspiration from you. It was delicious.
