Ohm So Glad I Finished That Paper

I stayed up until 12:30 writing and it is FINISHED!!! I could spend a few hours revising and polishing, but I’ve learned that at this stage in the game of my academic pursuit, my time is better spent elsewhere 🙂

As a result of my late night fun, I slept until 8:45 this morning!!! I actually woke up at 7:30 and knew I hadn’t gotten enough sleep. I was wide awake, but before I knew it I woke up again at 8:45. Almost 8 hours on the nose! I had planned to go to 8AM spinning today, but I knew that wouldn’t’ be happening by bedtime. I’ll just have to have a magazine rock out session at the gym in a bit.

I was in a smoothie mood when I woke up and knew it was a great day to enter the Stonyfield Blogger Contest I’d been thinking about with a pumpkin SIAB!

My Oikos recipe is…

Greek Pumpkin Breakfast Soup

IMG_9120 (640x427)

No olives, no feta, no baklava – just Oikos Greek yogurt 🙂

IMG_9124 (640x427)

The Recipe

Blend together –

  • 1 container plain Oikos
  • 1/2 cup canned pumpkin
  • 1/2 cup milk of your choice
  • 1 tiny banana or half a large banana
  • Sprinkle cinnamon
  • Sprinkle nutmeg
  • 1 tsp maple syrup or agave

Top with granola and enjoy in a bowl!

IMG_9117 (640x427)

The winner of the contest gets an all expenses paid weekend trip for two to the Kripalu Center for Yoga & Health in Lenox, MA to be taken sometime in 2010. I’m entering my Oikos recipe above and a word on why I need a little more “ohm” in my life –

2.5 years of chemistry 101 (probably the worst!), organic chemistry, biochemistry, labs, foodservice equipment, MNT, grant writing, metabolism,  vitamins and minerals, nutrition education, statistics, physiology, medical terminology, flash cards, article reviews, group work ( 👿 ), research papers, tests, powerpoints, presentations, FINALS, commutes to South Carolina, and a 6 month internship……………my brain is more stuffed with information than a belly after Thanksgiving Dinner!

Meditation or Metabolism?

More ohm…….and less ohmygoshihaveanotherpapertowrite!

IMG_9129 (640x427)

Also with breakfast I tried a coffee a blog reader sent to me. It’s made with mushrooms!? It contains an organic herb known as ganoderma (one of the oldest mushrooms used in Chinese medicine.) Apparently this herb helps detox the body, balance ph level of the body, increase the immune system, provide energy, increase stamina, oxygenate the body, reduce jitter and caffeine crash. I agreed to give it a try to be nice…

IMG_9107 (640x427)

What I DID like was that there was a nice foam that developed on the top. But once that was gone, I only tasted dark roast instant coffee 🙁 I’m not feeling any magic either…but we’ll see.

IMG_9123 (640x427)

IMG_9108 (640x427)

I have a testimony on funds for a community garden in public high schools to give in class today…gotta go practice that. Then workout. Then lunch. Then 2 classes.

Tomorrow: paper #2

I did the worst one first, so hopefully this one on omega-3s and tumor metabolism won’t be as painful 😉 It’s my last assignment EVER!

I too cranked out a paper last night and decided that my body needed sleep instead of working out this morning. NO need to work out a tired body! I am in my second semester of graduate school (only 1 more to go) and I have gained the most weight between my senior year of undergraduate and first year of graduate school. I stumbled upon your blog last week and it was just in time for my healthy turnover. I am realizing [with daily encouragement from your blog] that eating healthy GOOD food is indeed a possibility. So thank you!

Also, I tried the bean burgers last night and they were fantastic AND I have been on an oatmeal kick this week.

Anyways, thank you for being an inspiration to young adults who need to make a healthier lifestyle a reality!

Good for you for sleeping in!!! Us grad students need to be kinder to ourselves, eh?

So, I had to comment because the coffee is endorsed by Rod Smith (former Denver Bronco allstar) and my husband interviews him weekly for the sports radio morning show he produces… so funny… Rod actually hates regular coffee but loves this instant stuff with all the special ingredients : ) I’m not too fond of instant ANYTHING but it’s fun to hear a big tough Bronco talk about his morning coffee! haha.

    Have a great day!

I’m not sure if it’s just the delta brand you prefer, but I think they sell a variety in the store too…i’ve always wanted to try them!
