Nothin’ But Nutritious

Just had an all-American lunch break!! Left my office and strolled down a delightful downtown to grab something to eat in the nice weather.

Not sure how many Americans go out for vegetable juice, but I did!!

Berrybrook Farm is one of Charlotte’s few true health food stores. And they have a tiny juice bar that serves juices, sandwiches and soups where you can get lunch to go. Lucky for me and this awesome work location, it was a 5 minute walk!

The menu was quite hectic to read, but I decided I wanted a juice and a sandwich of sorts.

I went straight to the wildest, most vegetable-filled juice I could find: The Everything.

Contents (which I wrote on the back of my receipt to remember)

  • Carrot
  • Beet
  • Cabbage
  • Apple
  • Kale
  • Spinach
  • Parsley
  • Ginger
  • Green pepper

And garlic, which I politely asked them to exclude!

The juice was vegetably all right!! Not exactly a palate pleaser, but it tasted amazing because I knew it was so nutrient dense ๐Ÿ™‚ Wasn’t bad though!

this !

I was killin’ for some hummus but sadly they only have that on Mondays, so I got an avocado + veggie wrap on a whole wheat tortilla. It came with a lemon-garlic dressing (asked them to go light ’cause of garlic breath!). The wrap was very fresh and totally delicious!! Had avocado (not very much though), cucumber, carrot, lettuce and cabbage (hold the onions!)

I ate on a porch swing with a stump for a table!

I sort of wish I’d asked to add in someย  black beans or something into my wrap because I’m not sure how filling this will be, but I wasn’t terribly hungry going into lunch (hello pumpkin oats!) so I think this was just what I needed (I feel 100% satisfied). I’ll have an early snack if need be. Intuitive eating!

But to balance all of my nutrient-dense lunch bites, I had a few Jelly Bellys from the office jar. I offered to eat down the licorice stash for them! I love licorice.

Happy afternooooooooon!

that’s incredibly nutritious! love the color of the juice (although I’m not sure I would be able to drink it!) the wrap sounds right up my alley though, but you’re right – hummus would definitely be a little better ๐Ÿ™‚ hope you enjoy the rest of your day!

I recently have been trying fresh juices..I’M IN LOVE!!! My yoga studio has a organic cafe/juice bar and I have been getting them for the drive home after class. I am contemplating getting a juicer to make my own and spare myself the $6 juice cost. Do you own one? Can you suggest a brand/type. I want to make lots of vegtable and fruit drinks this summer, and it would probably be just for me. Thanks ๐Ÿ™‚

So many healthy options around you! The “healthiest” choice I could probably make around here (besides going to the grocery store and getting some hopefully fresh produce) would be Subway.

I’d like to try vegetable juice sometime (not V8), is there a type or recipe you’d recommend for someone who is willing to try anything healthy but is looking for something tasty for their first juiced veggie drink? ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

That looks delicious, both the juice and the wrap. There’s a place called Boost Juice all over Australia that I wanted to try but it was REALLY expensive (like $7 for the smallest size) for something that would have been in addition to a meal, not a meal in itself. Just make sure you’re nice to the customer service person at ATT! They’re totally restricted by corporate rules and can’t always do what you want them to be able to do. And it isn’t the person’s fault.

My husband works at a call center and you wouldn’t believe the horrible things people scream at him. He understands what they want, but he’s limited by corporate rules. Trust me, those guys would fix it if they could! He is so defeated when he comes home. If people weren’t so mean, call centers wouldn’t have such high turnover and you’d get better customer service!

Hey Kath – since you’re enjoying the foam roller lately…this morning in my yoga class, the instructor handed out foam rollers and had us lie on our backs with the roller under our spines – vertically, not horizontally, if that makes sense. No need to roll over it, just allow your body to relax over the roller. If your roller is long enough, you should try it – it felt SO good! It was really great to open up the upper back & shoulders!

I used to love love love getting juices from the deli. I never ever had a bad one no matter what combo of fruits and veggies I got. The best part was that I got an employee discount on everything.
Even funnier is that I was overweight then so that just goes to show you that you can gain excess fat from “health food” just like other foods.
