Sporting Matt’s skiing turtle neck. It’s just like a big round cowl neck fleece that you can pull over your face. Worked like a charm on my bike ride. Although I thought breathing through it was quite disgusting, especially because I breathe pretty hard when I’m going up a hill. It was hard to get enough oxygen! So I had to pull it down on the hills and put it back on the down hills, but it still worked great.

Boy she’s a fast one!

KERF UPLOAD18Blog

My gym session was simple – biking, Stairmaster, some weights. BodyPump has made me want to lift more when I’m NOT in class – so I did a session with some of the bars in the weights area. It felt good! I also did my weights FIRST. I’ve always [always] been a cardio-first type, so this was a good change for me.

Absolutely love the hippo song!!! You could say it’s my signature song. Heard it in high school and been spreading it to all my family and friends ever since. When i first mentioned it in college everyone that I was nuts and said it wasn’t a real song. Pulled out my tape (that dates me) and played it. Ever since, it has been a tradition of mine to make sure everyone listens to it at least once during the holiday season. You can’t listen to the song w/o laughing and smiling.

LOVE: Baby It’s Cold Outside, Sleigh Ride, I’ve Got My Love to Keep Me Warm, White Christmas, It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

HATE: Mostly just contemporary artists doing contemporary versions of classic songs – especially O Holy Night! I like the song, hate the new-ish versions. There’s not many actual songs that I don’t enjoy, which is surprising since I carol every year and get to sing the same songs over and over…yet I still like them.

Weights first is the way to go! I’m not sure as to the reason why from a physiological perspective (maybe increased muscle mass= more calories burned when resting, or less tired as you are doing them before cardio) but I noticed a HUGE difference in my body after making this little change. It made me so lean! Weights first is the only way to do it!

    Three more hideous Christmas songs:
“The 12 Days of Christmas That’s Such a Pain To Me” – don’t know who sings it, sounds like a choir of bad actors. Very negative and Scrooge-ish…
“I Wanna See Christmas in Your Eyes” – Gloria Estefan. Too cheesy for its own good!
Jewel’s version of “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” – UGH…if you hear it you will understand why.

It’s better to do you weightlifting first because weight lifting only uses carbohydrates as energy while running can use both carbohydrates and fat (except that it uses the carbs first). So if you do cardio first you use up all of your carbs and cannot gain as much out of lifting weights. However, if you lift weights first, when you do your cardio, you will switch to burning fat quicker. 🙂

    strongly dislike the “mary” song..

other than that.. I really enjoy most carols… however, given the fact that my son( who is in the Navy) just this last Sunday for his first deployment to the Persian Gulf ….. “I’ll be home for Christmas ” of any way shape or form is not welcomed here…..

in fact.. I have renamed it ‘the stupid song’.. at least for this year..

and don’t EVEN get me started on the Folger’s commercial…… *snif*

I’m pretty much a sucker for Christmas music. Not sure if anyone has suggested this between this thread and the morning thread, but one of my favorite Christmas albums is “We Three Kings” by the Roches. There are a couple of clunkers, but mostly excellent 3-part girl harmonies. 🙂
