My Ears Are Ringing In The New Year

I am only blogging right now so I don’t have any obligations in the AM!

I was in charge of planning tonight’s events, which were unlimited as long as it was a romantic date for two. I decided that something involving the lightrail would be the smartest because it would minimize the driving. And I decided a movie would be the best thing to tide the 5-10pm hours. I also decided we should have a substantial snack at 5pm and have late appetizer dinner at 9:30 to tide us to midnight. The whole plan turned out well!

I managed a TEENY TINY nap at 4:30 before the husband came home at 5 and we got ready. For snack I had a big bowl of cereal (Crunch, H2H and Puffins with milk and BB) along with a bite of blondie!

We went to a brand new upscale theater (which we felt was a bit too overrated for its upscaleness) to see the Curious Case of Benjamin Button. We both liked the movie a lot and I thought it was a cross between Forrest Gump and Meet Joe Black. It may have been Brad Pitt’s hottest movie! It was also quite an ironic movie to see on New Year’s Eve given the time stopping irony. At the upscale theater we got a glass of Pinot and a Manhattan. My wine was just so-so – it tasted like a bad pinot, 5 days old.

The plan was to go to to a bar/restaurant for appetizers after the movie and then to a club for NYE. We decided to check and see if one of our favorite restaurants was open (it had been closed for renovations) and sure enough, it was! With no cover and $3 beer specials, at that. We couldn’t have been happier.

I knew I was in a martini mood and ordered the Red, White and Berry. Like a berried-up cosmo!

For our “dinner” we ordered the Herb Ricotta Gnocchi

DSC07866

It was excellent!!!

My portion:

And for a second course to stretch out the evening, the four-cheese platter with honeycomb and toast

DSC07871

I ordered this beer next, but I didn’t care for it so I gave it to the husband and ordered a Blue Moon instead

Speaking of him…

We were probably fine with our two apps, but we decided it was a special occasion and ordered a Banana Creme Brulee to finish!

We were supposed to go to a club to dance for an hour before midnight, but after much debate, we decided to stay put for the good drink prices and upscale yet casual company. We didn’t want to risk switching locations to a packed bar with cigarette smoke and a cover charge when we were enjoying our current location.

Lastly, I ordered a Reisling near midnight to toast in the New  Year

But we were excited to find the bar passing out hats and blowers!

DSC07888  DSC07891

HAPPY NEW YEARRRRRRRRR! I got a nice smooch from my handsome spouse at midnight!!

DSC07894  DSC07899

The walk to the lightrail was so painful because we barely had jackets and it’s 27* out there. We were bundled up in each other’s arms for warmth.

DSC07905

But the train was packed so we had a warm ride home, followed by a freezing 1/2 mile drive, followed by a cold house!

DSC07907

Now we’re all set to have a 100% vacation day tomorrow. Can’t wait!!!

Happy ’09 to you all. (For the record, we are having a few kashi crackers for a late-night snack

 this !
)

Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday that we were celebrating the New Millennium?

But hmmm, about no jackets. Sounds like your dad or me following your sister to the door and forcing her to bring some warmer clothes in case her car breaks down.

Good choices all around! Happy New Year Kath and Matt. I enjoy reading your blog almost every day–my niece, who is studying for her RD in Ohio, got me started on this almost a year ago, and I really enjoy following your story. My other niece, her sister, is also studying for her RD in St. Louis! Hope you have a happy, successful, fulfilling 2009 (I keep typing 2990!).

I really enjoy your blog. After a significant weight loss myself I am working on maintenance. After all the holiday/vacation eating and alcohol, were you able to maintain, or do you have to move back into “losing mode”?
    Thanks and Happy New Year!
