Mostess

So you know how Karen (my MIL) folds her comforter at the bottom of her bed?

Here’s my attempt to recreate the same coziness. Although something tells me I need more fluff!

KERF UPLOAD1 (512x1024)

I just swapped on our wintertime Pottery Barn bedding. All wedding gifts that I LOVE! Our bedroom set is actually NOT the Pottery Barn Farmhouse collection, although it looks very similar. It came from World Market and we got the whole thing 40% off! So all four pieces were probably about 15% of the price that Pottery Barn’s are.

***

Just before lunch I got a burst of energy to go to the gym! Really I think all the bedding shuffle had me itching to read Better Homes & Gardens and there’s no better place to do that than the gym! (For some reason I cannot just sit on the couch and read a magazine. I have to be moving. I must have inherited this strange behavior from my dad, who reads + walks 6 miles a day!)

IMG_2674edited

I biked to the gym and spent a leisurely 30 minutes on the elliptical, did some foaming and then headed home. Pretty low-key and just what I was in the mood for.

***

What leftovers do you still have!? A huge bonus to being hostess: hostess with the mostess leftovers!!

IMG_2658edited

IMG_2677edited

Stuffing Salad is a favorite of mine.

IMG_2664edited

  • A bed of lettuce + spinach
  • A carrot
  • ~1 cup of heated stuffing
  • 1 extra fig because I love figs and would put MORE in the stuffing if Matt would let me
  • 2 small plums
  • ~3 tbsp wheatberries
  • ~10 cinnamon almonds
  • No dressing because I wanted the flavors to pop

IMG_2667edited

Consumed in the warmth of the living room!

IMG_2659edited

Showertime, the hopefully, tree time!

I fold a blanket at the foot of my bed. Similar effect, but the comforter can still poof a lot!!

I wish we had leftovers. We had to scrounge in the pantry for a whole lot of nothing…not fun! Now we are off to the grocery store to stock up!

I keep my comforter folded at the end of my bed but I have the opposite problem of you, my duvet is too fluffy. It sorta swallows my bed. There is definitely a happy medium, but I think your comforter looks good.

I love your Mom’s headboard (I have a thing about headboards – Just made my own) Did she make it or have it made? I’m thinking she must of as I see matching pillows.

I also LOVE LOVE LOVE your four-poster bed – it is so classic. And your bedding goes beautifully. I think you have enough poof.

But what do you have underneath the comforter? That’s not a sheet is it? or is it a blanket of some kind?

She did have it custom made – and the pillows to match.

Underneath is a bedspread – a white swirly one.

Question for Freya and KERF Dad:

How do you walk and read at the same time? Call me clumzy (and that I definitely am,) but I would be worried about tripping over something… Or walking into a pole or breezing through an intersection. And are you able to keep up a quick pace?

Clearly I am not cut out for such ambitious activities! 😛

You have to use peripheral vision and look up frequently – but also, walking on a smooth sidewalk or surface does help a lot. I have gotten hit by branches before! Neighborhood streets are the best, or wide open sidewalks.

If you want to fluff up your comforter, here’s what I do: throw it in a commercial, front-load dryer with several (I use a whole can) brand-new, never been used tennis balls. I’m not sure why, but it totally fluffs the heck out of it. Works with feather beds, too, if they get mashed down. You don’t need any heat, just a little tumbling and the tennis ball action seems to do the trick.
