me&breakfast

Great way to start the day:

  1. 30 minutes of Dave Farmar Sun Salutation Flow #2 (love this one because it’s very hard and leaves me shaky in only 30 minutes)
  2. A sunny breakfast
  3. A Contest!

IMG_7423 (1024x768)

IMG_7425 (1024x768)

I give you me&goji (1 cup) with banana, blueberries and milk –

IMG_7422 (1024x768)

I had the opportunity to create a mix last week and came up with the KERF Krunch –

IMG_7428 (1024x768) IMG_7430 (1024x768)

It’s a bit high in calorie for a 1 cup serving (300) but it is high in fiber and pretty good in protein, so you get a lot at once.

IMG_7429 (1024x768)

I really like the mix though! Y’all know that I love to mix cereals, so I took this opportunity to blend flakes, O’s, and granola – plus bananas and almonds. There were TONS of options to choose from, but I tried to keep it simple enough to appreciate the flavor combo. The best part are these dried bananas. I pictured them as crunchy chips, but they are chewy and sweet and OH-so-good!!

IMG_7421 (1024x768)

I was in a coffee mood, so I made a cup today too

Giveaway

So here’s your chance to try me&goji and help someone you think deserves a fun surprise in their life.

IMG_7427 (1024x768)

Leave a comment telling me about someone you know who deserves a special cereal mix and why, and you could each win a coupon to design a me&goji mix. You have by tonight at 8pm EST. Good luck!

I am off to work from home, to the gym around lunchtime, and then out with friends for Girls’ Night.

My husband, Carter, deserves the most special cereal mix there is. He has been by my side for 14 years (we met in middle school) as I have struggled with and finally overcame an eating disorder. He loved me inside and out for all those years, and ultimately, he is the one who became my role model for healthy eating and balance. Pretty amazing, since he used to be overweight and I’m the one who inspired him to eat healthy! He began to eat healthy and lost weight, but he did it in a balanced, realistic way. It’s so neat that the tides turned and he became the teacher! Now he teaches me how to cook, how to achieve balance, and he encouraged me to go to an R.D. who helped me to fully recover! Carter continues to support and praise my progress every day.

When I was little, my dad used to “consolidate” the sad little crumbs of cereal that remained in our almost-empty boxes of Frosted Flakes, Froot Loops, Captain Crunch, Cheerios and Cocoa Puffs. Kath, while your cereal mixes are works of culinary art … these were just nauseating. I think it would be hilarious to let my dad pick out his own mix!

I would love to win so I could let my dad mix his own cereal. He eats several bowls a day and frequently mixes different healthy cereals (as well as yogurts, berries, milks, etc.) to create his ultimate bowl. When I was little, he worked a ton but we’d always have breakfast together and call it our little “date.” It’s still a tradition and every time I am home, we like to sit together and eat breakfast and drink coffee together. I am too poor to send him a present for Father’s Day and was going to resort to a card. This would be the ultimate gift!

His answer, “I’ve never found another granola I like as much, and it’s not like I can make my own easily!” He likes granola so much, he craves it for dinner sometimes – it’s the closest he’ll come to having breakfast for dinner 😉

My husband would be the person that I would say deserve his own cereal mix. He works had every day to provide for us – first at his “real” job as a project manager for a commerical contractor than on our family blueberry farms. His days span 4:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Then he still comes home and helps with the laundry, taking care of the puppy, or rubbing my back because I pulled a muscle.

And on top of it all, he is finding ways to eat healthier – you can imagine the type of food that is eaten in the construction field – and workout. I am so proud of him and so grateful to have him.

She has gotten me to completely change the way I eat and treat my body –even gotten me to exercise! I have always been “thin”, but I was so unhealthy. I had really high cholesterol, and high blood pressure, before I was evn 40! Proving that you really are what you eat…

Pennie convinced me to eat “clean”, the best I can and she has been a great motivator. I even made myself a banana, blackberry, almond milk, and SPINACH smoothie yesterday — NEVER in my former eating life would I eat spinach let alone drink it.

Would love to share this special treat with Pennie as a “thank you” for giving me a healthy life…

She told me that she has been having major cravings for cereal; I know that she would be so excited to customize one to her specifications!

Now that he’s an adult he’s discovered that cereal can be quick, easy, taste good and good for you. Now he’s hooked and I’m relieved because I don’t feel pressure to live up to the standard set by my mother in law!

Unfortunately her choices fall short a few times as she is “taken in” by the claims that something is healthier and better for her just because it says so on the box. At least I know that this delish and oh so healthy looking cereal WOULD be good for her!

I don’t get to see her as much since we live 13 hours away from each other (I had to miss her wedding and now I’ll miss the birth of her baby) but just recently I went home for vacation and saw her a ton. We decided we both were unhappy with our weight and eating habits and decided that even if we were apart from each other we’d find a way to help each other out. She suggested showing our food diaries to each other so that the other person can see what was eaten and spot bad trends that the other might not. I created a WordPress for it, and it’s really helping, and we’ve only been going at it for a week. I know it won’t go to waste on her because she is a cereal fiend, haha!

During my formative years as a child, I grew up as an only one. My mom eventually remarried, providing me with a step sister. Now, again, at the age of 25 I find myself sisterless — technically. However, I have been blessed with two amazing friends; both of them only children. We’ve joked around calling ourselves sisters, but only recently I’ve come to cherish the fact that, yes we really are sisters.
Two days ago I found out that one of these girls’ parents are potentially splitting up after 27 years of marriage. She is absolutely emotionally defeated. Originally, she sent me an email asking for prayer for her family and that she had the most devastating news. It was at that point I felt the big sister in me emerge.
It’s hard living two hours away from her. I can’t just rush to her side. I sent her three emails, called her once and commented on her Facebook status, just so she knew I had been thinking about her. I cried for her and prayed for her. I couldn’t concentrate at work. That is, until she finally confided in me what was happening. For all I knew she or someone she was very close to was dying.
Though we’ve been friends for nearly 9 years, I’ve never felt that bond – that sisterly bond. It’s made me reflect on my friendship with my two best friends. It’s a friendship that I never want to take for granted.
I think my friend is in need of designing a me&goji mix. For one it would take her mind off of things, if only for a few minutes. Also she is an organic food loving – marathon runner. This ordeal has upset her so much she has decided not to run the Portland marathon. Maybe with a little cheering up, she’ll change her mind.
P.S. Sorry this turned out to be an essay. But, thanks for this contest! 🙂

She also pushes me to do the same and I love her and think she deserves a nice treat.

my mom deserves this mix because she is struggling with body image issues and her eating habits. lately, she’s been trying to skimp on her breakfasts in effort to lose weight, but she ends up eating more later in the day. i’ve been trying to tell her that all she needs to do is combine one serving of each of whole grains, dairy, fruit, and nut butter (for protein and fat), and she’ll have a much easier time controlling her appetite for the rest of the day! thank you for this wonderful giveaway!

My best friend Beth who lives 488 miles away deserves some love in the form of amazing cereal for a thousand reasons.
Since explaining all of them would take too long, top 3 are:

1.) She talked me into signing up for a spring marathon which we just finished May 26th!! She made a PR of 4 hours!!

2.) She LOVES healthy food. Combine this with her intense passion for baking and she is a crazy cookie, cake, muffin, you-name-it she’s-made it officionado.

3.) She is practically my twin and since I know I would love this a ton, I know that without a doubt this would make her month.

I would love to be able to create a cereal for my dad. I am home from college for the summer and noticed yesterday that he has been feeling down. He has multiple sclerosis and he was saying last night how it is becoming harder and harder for him to mentally follow along at work and do the things that he used to do. This is the first time in a long time that I have seen him close to tears and I didn’t quite know what to do. I know something like cereal wouldn’t fix things but he is a cereal lover and I definitely think the gesture would cheer him up! Being a college student, I don’t have quite the disposable income to do this myself, so a coupon would be amazing!

He’s currently in grad school to be a teacher, so he takes classes 2 evenings a week, student teaches 5 days a week and works 3 evenings a week (to help pay for it all). it’s a crazy schedule, and we end up eating a lot of smoothies for breakfast and lunch.

it would be awesome if, as a pick-me-up, he could have a bowl of HIS OWN CEREAL for lunch while he’s student teaching. i know he’d definitely include golden raisins (which i hate).

In fact, when he’s not job hunting or going on interviews, he’s at either two places: volunteering at a local food shelter or at the local gym. She looks fantastic, but she’s a little blue about the post-baby weight (which, really, is just a little teensy bit because she was so great about nutrition while she was pregnant.)
Some days, she doesn’t have time to eat.
She grabs a handful of whatever she’s giving her daughter for a snack.
I know she would love some mommy-only KERF Krunch to give her something nutritious and quick to give her some extra fuel for nursing her baby.
I’d love to see her get the surprise, and I’d forgo the one you’d send me to someone else who could use a surprise! (And, then, I’ll buy some, because it looks YUMMY!)

My boyfriend, Kent, deserves this mix. He’s vegan, really low on cash (his parents make him pay for his college AND food, and, with classes, he obviously can’t afford to work all the time), and we live in a crappy town with no real vegan options. I love him more than anything and he deserves a special cereal mix just for him. =)

My WONDERFUL HUSBAND! He is a true “southerner” (I am too but I don’t eat like it!) and I have worked so hard over the past 2 years of our marriage to get him to understand that:

    – corn doesn’t have to have fat back grease in it to taste good!
    – beans don’t have to have ham/ham bone in it!
    – bacon doesn’t belong on everything!

You get the idea. He’s in great shape and all his doctor’s visits come back perfect, so it’s been REALLY hard to steer him in a new direction. I think it would be fun for him to make his own cereal, and maybe “forget” it’s healthy too!

    Thanks!

Unfortunately, breakfast ruined the second operation because the hospital gave her a bowl of cream of wheat when she wasn’t supposed to eat. I think this would be a great opportunity for her to create a nutritious mix to start her day! I would also love to create a mix too – I love cereal and being creative! I had already decided to say my Mom before I clicked on the comments-looks like a lot of people thought the same! I’m choosing my mom because growing up, she never let us buy a cereal if the first two ingredients were sugar. So our choices were certainly limited, but a lot healthier! Back then I didn’t really appreciate it, but now I’m glad my Mom got us started on healthy choices early–even if we didn’t realize it! So I think my Mom deserves a very tasty and healthy cereal that she wouldn’t be able to find in a regular grocery store

My friend Jonathan deserves this cereal. For the last 52 weeks he has helped me find my inner athlete. With his help, I have lost 50 pounds and feel like a new person. Because of him, I now get more excited about this amazing cereal than chocolate cake! It is his birthday next week and I feel like this is the perfect “thank you” for bringing me back.

I would have to say my dear friend, Sandi, deserves to win this fun treat. She has been everything you would ever want a friend to be and then more. I recently was diagnosed with a life changing condition that taught me who my real friends were, the lovely Sandi was completely and utterly there for me. She has been a foundation to keep me going, someone to lean on when I can not walk and exemplifies all that is good in people. Above all us, she keeps me laughing in the toughest of medical times and that girl loves her some food:)

    Hi Kath,
I believe my mother deserves her own special cereal. She has started the Fage, berry, and cereal love in my hometown and is the best role model for living a healthy, full life. These things aside, my mother is full of love for her family and will do anything for her kids. Several years ago, she nursed me back to health when I had anorexia and no amount of treatment could keep me safe. She prepared all my meals to the painstaking detail of my dietician’s instructions and sat with me for hours each day while I struggled through them. She did all of this on top of raising three other children, one of them having Down Syndrome. My mother is amazing, and is so deserving (not to mention that she jokes all the time about never having won anything in her life!). Thanks Kath!

She just got married, which is a happy, happy thing, but now she and the new hubby are living in the middle of nowhere, without any friends or family. She’s lonely! They’re also trying to healthen their diet up, and this cereal would help. Thanks for the giveaway!

Much like other comments I’ve read, my momma definitely deserves her own special mix! I’ve been trying to be pretty healthy for the past couple of years now, but just moved to North Carolina, way way way far away from my fam. My mom has been struggling with weight, health, and dietary issues recently. I feel like a good, healthy, yummy cereal mix will really give her a boost she needs. Especially since her baby is too far away to give her the love and encouragement she needs 🙂

My sister definitely deserves to create her own mix, and here’s why:

Several years ago she became very sick and experienced organ failure. She spent about 6 months in the ICU and several months after that in recovery, learning how to walk and getting back her coordination. She became very weak during her coma and the many months she sat paralyzed in hospital. Since then, she has fully regained her strength and has committed herself to living a healthy life. She is one of the healthiest eaters I know and she LOVES breakfast. She always makes sure she gets a good balance of everything in her diet. I know she would really enjoy this!

If my father were still alive her would deserve this. He was the original cereal mix man. He would always start with Raisin Bran, to this he would add: some kind of fruit, (rhubarb sause being one of his favorites), always a part of a banana, some kind of nut, peanuts or maybe slivered almonds, then he might add some rolled oats or wheat germ, depending on what my mother had on hand. We would just watch this and wrinkle our noses. However as an adult I am just like him. Loving all the textures and not wanting to just settle for one. So I was taught by the master I guess. He was 83 when he passed away two years ago. He never added peanut butter that I know of, but I think he would have liked that.
